Evening All,

So here's my question, insurance renewal is coming up soon, and with the smallest modifications I'm getting penalised to the point my premium is more than twice that of an unmodified S3!

Any suggestions which companies you guys use which are "modified" car friendly.

Ash

Ok thanks Sean, I didn't realise there was a section on insurance! I've been so focused on 8L's I've not payed much attention to other areas of the site. I'll check it out

How old are you
I'm with greenlight and the they don't seem to care about most mods
When I went hybrid I went 240-330 bap and they charged me 26 quid lol

Hi Daz,

I'm 29 clean licence. I've just never noticed such a huge increase over small mods on a car, I'll look into greenlight. Thanks.

What's the quote
What mods
And any ncb?
My car is fully stripped
Coil overs
Hybrid
Buckets with 6 point harnesses etc etc and I'm paying 400
32yo
2 years bonus

£595

Catback milltek
K&N filter
Lowered spring
Adjustable tie arms

Hardly anything worth writing home about.

I payed £285 last year for it!

6 years NCB

I'm 29 in a few weeks with 12 years ncb and clean licence (touch wood)

On my 1.8t sport I was paying 350 fully comp my renewal has come through at 855 quid ... 500 quid more than last year!!

That's with hastings who charge you a 25 quid administration fee on top of the massive increase in premium every time you amend something..jokers oh and they don't send u a copy of your policy or insurance cert u can only access it if u sign up and log in to there site .. or its 25 quid to have it posted ..

Last year they where the cheapest by far .. this year there the most expensive.. how does so little yet so much change in 12 months to warrant an increase like that??

I will be shopping around yet again

Call Adrian Flux for a quote, then Chris Knott, for one, then let them fight it out for the best price, you might have to go between them
A few times though.

If you haven't already, get a fresh quote from them, I bet it'll be around what you paid last time. Admiral play this game with me every year, though not to that extent!

Similar, stupid M20 :(

Hi,

Feel free to try us for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me your telephone number and email address I can arrange for our quotes team to get in touch.

Kind regards,
Dan.

i'll add that i use adrian flux for my t4 van insurance, they have my details to renew automatically, and did not in any way take the **** with a price increase. anyone doing this is never used by me again. the RAC just did it to me, so now i'm an AA member...

i was quoted £177 on the s3, 42, 2 years ncb with remap, tip, 007 and milltec. happy days.

Never take the renewal price, they can always do better, when you get a few other quotes.

It's strange. I recently paid £1040 fully comp with admiral for a standard 1.8t. I paid £720 for a saab 93 aero at same postcode same insurer. I'm 34 with 2 years ncb. Far too expensive.

Shop around or tell your current insurer to do better. I did and it saved me £50 and was cheaper than any other insurer (£178, standard S3, 10 years NCD, protected, FC, additional driver, inc. legal cover, £210 excess)

I was 25 when i renewed last year and paid somewhere around the £400 mark with 5 years no claims. it's pretty much a complete postcode lottery

I've been with Admiral for several years now and they dont seem to charge much for mods. Had a B5 S4 with coilovers and a milltek and it cost an extra 40 quid or so from memory. Then a mk2 golf, with all mods declared (wheels, coilovers, exhaust) cost me 350 quid for the year. Admittedly this was one of 3 cars on a multicar policy but still not bad given I'm 25...

Adrian Flux all the way!

Was with admiral and they wouldn't insure me when I put an intercooler on after a stage 1!

Plus it was a lot cheaper with Flux

Thank you all :) I'll speak to Adrian flux via Dan from Adrian flux closer to the time, can't do much until after the 11th October. Hopefully they can give me a competitive price.

Got a quote with green light for 400 quid fully comp all mods included .. can also add mods and can go to stage 1 before any premium increase ... much happier with that but still got to try Adrian flux and a few others first and see who's offering the best quote

Yeah I'll defiantly be ringing around to get the best price, not just that the best customer service, nothing worse than not being able to talk to someone. I'm with quotemehappy at the moment, cheap...... But you can't actually speak to a person!?

Be careful with Adrian flux and declaring mods.
I listed all mine, then they send you a form to fill in so they have a document signed by you.
I thought when I told them it would be up to 400hp, that common sense would tell them it's mapped. No.
I ticked remapped on the form, got stung for another £180 AFTER I'd paid and agreed the original price on the phone. They had my details so the money was taken about a week later.
Sly sly ******** with that move I tell you.

Paying £345 on the S3 and just renewed the 1986 Coupe quattro for £88 fully comp with agreed value and 10,000 miles a year usage on classic car insurance. Adrian Flux were good a couple years ago for the S3 but wanted a lot more at renewal and its definitely worth phoning around to the specialists. Whatever you do don't be tempted to not declare any mods, it's not worth the risk.

Always declared my mods on every car I've owned agree totally with the above its just not worth it.

So far green light have quoted me just over 400 quid , Adrian flux have quoted me 384 quid but by far the best so far is sky insurance just spoke to a chap called Alex and he's quoted me 330 which I'm well chuffed with .. still going to give Chris knott a call just to see what they say but so far thumbs up to sky insurance.

Who may I ask, are you using for your classic insurance policy? And is the car stock? Cheers.

Hi JoJo, The insurer Is Zenith, originally arranged through Flux Direct who now seem to be Herts Insurance. Car is a 1986 2226 Coupe Quattro, genuine 3 owner car with 110,000 miles and in outstanding condition:-

My renewal just came through at £489, going to hopefully knock it down to around £400 seeing as it's pretty much the same as what i paid last year

After ringing round Chris knott was the cheapest @ £315 but the deal wasn't as attractive as sky insurances @ £330 so I'm going with them.

They basically offered the same deal as green light insurance who quoted me £410 ... so sky where 80 quid cheaper for same deal.

My renewal from hastings was £855 ..so I'm saving £525 compared to current insurers renewal .

Hastings by the way wouldn't even requote me because they said they wouldn't be able to touch them quotes and then questioned me about it ... basically trying to say I'd pulled the figures out of thin air .... tossers!!

Loyalty tends not to pays with insurance companies or its very rare. I am never complacent , even if my renewal quote is the same as last year i will still go out and see who really wants my business.

Avoid hastings direct !! Had nothing but trouble with them and now there refusing to send me my proof of 12 years no claims.

There saying there system only goes to 9 years and they can't find the confirmation letter from my previous insurer to prove I came to them with 11 ... even though they made me get a letter from my previous insurer confirming it otherwise they would cancel my policy.

Total mickey mouse organisation !!

I've now had to call my new insurer (sky insurance ) to tell them the issue and left it for there administration team to deal with.

I'm ******* fuming!!

Adrian Flux all the way for me
I've been insured with them twice, and both times got insured with them slightly cheaper with mods declared than I could get anywhere else without mods declared
Can't fault them
Got exhaust, filter, and diverter valve declared
Hopefully when I get some wheels it'll just be an admin fee
If it doesn't increase the value of the car as such they don't seem too bothered :)

Just as an indication if it helps I'm 36, with NO ncb as its expired and I use lease cars, and it's about £500 with mods declared for a 1.8T

not sure whether it's a simple as that. I think 'boosting your car' can make it more attractive to thieves or indicate you are planning on 'generally' driving it fast and more likely to be involved in an accidental....depending on the mod of course.

I fully understand what you're saying, and with most insurers that's the case, just that Flux don't seem to mind too much, don't know about power increases tho
