Hi Guys, not sure whether there is anyone here who has experience with fitting the KUFATEC Cabrio Comfort Module which allows you to control the roof with 3 clicks of the remote or 1 click of the interior switch. This kit consist of two modules where one plugs into the roof module behind the drivers side rear panel/speaker and the other goes into the drivers door. I fitted this to my cabby recently and since than the roof seems to have a mind of it's own... The 3 clicks of the remote works 'most of the time', however the interior switch appears to stoped working all together now. I don't get any error messages when scanned with VAGCOM nor any unusual messages on the DIS when trying to open/close the roof from inside. Opening/closing via the remote sometimes takes a number of tries to get it work, other times it works on a first try for days. I'm pretty confident I installed/plugged it in properly so no idea what might be the cause of this.. Since I bought the module from an eBay seller (brand new), KUFATEC doesn't want to give me any support so my only option is to solve this myself now...

I think I read somewhere that the interior switch doesn't work if fitted so maybe. Its just a si gnal to module. Problem I'm no expert, I was thinking of fitting. One to mine

I've got the smarttop module which allows:

- Remote windows up/down
- Remote roof up/down
- 4 clicks to unlock = roof down & windows up
- Configurable for different speed limits (5mph increments up to 40mph)
- Turn indicator/horn on/off whilst roof in operation
- One-press up/down for the master window button
- One-press up/down for the interior (centre console) roof switch

The alternatives connect to each concerned module, hence the different boxes. The smarttop is 1 box, easily fitted and I don't know anyone that's had any problems.

Sounds like your unit is either not connected properly (perhaps the power tap isn't great?) or it's faulty.

Recommendation... return the kufatec 2-part module, buy the smarttop. One module which plugs into the roof control module, works first-time, every time.

mikeb7 this cannot be true, as one of the main features of the module is 1 click opening/closing with the interior swith (as oppose to holding it) & ability to operate the roof upto 30mph (which would be again only possible with the interior swith)

I might have done a mistake of buying the KUFATEC Cabrio Module as oppose to the Smarttop one. The problem is that I bought the module over a year ago from an eBay seller selling some ex stock AUDI dealer parts so I don;t think this is something I can return now:(

I doubt the wiring is faulty as I was doing proper soldering where joining wires was required.. It might be the faulty module, but I don't understand how a faulty module could prevent the interior switch from working? I would have though that a faulty module would only prevent the actual module working, but this is the only thing that actually works most of the time 'go figure':(

Re the SmartTop module, where did you buy it from as (If I can remember correctly) it wasn't available here in the UK and how much did you pay for it?

iv only ever used the smarttop
its one mod in the drivers rear side

It could have been faulty when you bought it, you get no guarantee from private sellers on eBay.

I got mine from PPC performance parts: SmartTop Roof Remote Control Module STLFAI1 (99922022250) | PPCGB

Also worth noting that MODS4CARS - YOUR SPECIALIST IN SmartTOP HIGH-END ELECTRONICS FOR CONVERTIBLE TOP AND REMOTE CONTROLS are quite good with correspondence if you have any issues.

When you install it's recommended to leave the USB lead under the rear seat bench to allow you to change the settings in future without removing the side panel each time :o.k:

Yes that was the one. That's why I'm stuck on my own now with no support from KUFATEC at all. They didn't even want to send me the installation guide, which I eventually managed to get elsewhere in English...

they wont send anything
i got the serial numbers from the seller and the german and english sides didnt have them on there system
so i thought they were snides returns or faulty
but i couldnt even buy the guides i needed from them
no invoice numbers from the seller and if he had got the from kuf he should have had somesort of invoice or payment details

Any tips on removing that side panel by yourself? I've popped out the seat bottom, and unbolted the bottom of the passenger seatback, but I can't get enough clearance between the seatback and the side panel to get the styrofoam to clear the car and remove the side panel. I'd remove the entire seatback, but from what I've read, it takes a special tool. Any tips/pictures would be appreciated.

I did go for the Smart Top module...for Mother on Mother's Day. :o.k:

Ain't it drivers side ?
I just pulled here an there till it came out
Back of seat is a ****er to get off.

the Mods4Cars installation shows passenger side. below is what I'm going by. I'm guessing that it works through a different module than the Kufatec.

Also, if you've done it, any tips on that side panel would be appreciated. I'm about to give it another try this evening.

Passenger side according to the Mods4cars installation instructions.

I'm going to have another go at it tonight, so I sure hope it's the passenger side...maybe theirs uses a different module. It's the foam that surrounds the module that's causing me to have a tough time getting the side panel out. The styrofoam is attached to the panel, but is wedged in there pretty tightly.

Here's a pic from their install instructions showing passenger side. The mods4cars website doesn't actually say a side, but the pictures indicate the passenger side. I'll know later hopefully, if I can get that panel out.

Got it done! Just for others...the module is definately on the passenger side. Also, there's a small spring clip at the bottom of the side panel, down between the floorboard and the seatback. You might get lucky enough to remove this clip without breaking it, but no way in heck is it going back in with the seatback relatively in place. I think it's just there to hold things together during assembly anyhow... Anyway, got it in, works perfectly, and now it's functions are disabled until Mothers Day on Sunday. Then, the big reveal as I turn it back on.

It's passenger side on the US & European cars (left hand drive) and drivers side on the UK cars (right hand drive). The panel has to come out all the way from the rear seat side first. The way I've done it was to stick my hand between the panel and rear seat and pull hard until it comes out. You need to bend the panel a bit for it to come out, but do it carefully not to crack or brake it of course.. When I was doing it the second time around it was much easier! Just take your time and you will be fine!
