Thanks to mike foster, itwasntme187 and dave_ph, I have now retrofitted cruise control to my car. Audi quoted £399....I did it myself for £95. Thanks Audi!

The CC as a function works, but the switch doesn't work as it should, and this is something mike foster is also encountering, as described below.

SET button does nothing.

Pulling the CC stalk towards me does nothing, UNTIL I press up (+) or down (-), and THEN CC is activated. It cancels when I push the stalk away from me, as it should, but flicking it back towards me does not activate the RESUME function. Again, I have to push the stalk up or down.

itwasntme187 doesn't have this issue - his functions as it should, as depicted on the switch. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm chuffed to bits that it's installed and working, but I would prefer it to work precisely as it should. Any ideas?

Maybe the switch installed has a problem, VCDS check and you should be able to monitor the switch actions in data blocks.

Not sure which module but probably either Engine Management or Steering ECU.

Paul

Probably unlikely that two identical switches bought in different parts of the country have the same problem.

We also have different steering ecu numbers so it's unlikely to be that causing the problem.

The two cars in question are both 2.0l TDI Sportback one March 2005 and the other July 2005. Both had the control wire pre-installed in the steering ecu.

The puzzle continues !

OK didn't realise that this was two cars, it is possible that Audi had a faulty batch of switches. It would still be worth checking in VCDS to see if you can see each switch working.

The retrofit to my March 05 2.0TDi went fine and works correctly, as there was a question mark over the Steering Ecu on mine, I did however order the newer version and install it to save taking steering wheel off again.

what do you need to do this? you have a link to the retro fit? as this is the only option that my car doesnt have and i really wanted.

stalk, and then then upper and lower steering cowels? presuming the car is fitting for it wiring wise.

Cheers

Ryan

Ryan - it very much depends on the model, year, chassis no. and steering ecu version.

As far as the cowl is concerned you just need the lower part.

You will also need to have the steering and engine ecu's re-coded, either at Audi or by someone local to you with VCDS.

Best bet is to call Audi with the details and they should tell you what is necessary for your car.

Do a search on the forum for the part numbers you need to get it working, i have posted this info in about 10 different posts in the last month!
also check your chassis number with Audi to find out what is already in your car, as you may be lucky and find that the parts you need is already in there.
Took me a couple of hours to fit in the Cruise and MFSW in my A3, mind you it was the first time i have ever taken a steering wheel off. not a hard job really.

I have checked with James and we have different cruise switch part numbers but mine works fine and is a july 2005 build.

Hi itwasntme187

Mine is a July 2005 Sportback like yours and Dave at Stoke Audi checked the chassis no. and sent cruise stalk ref. 8P0 054 690. I think James has the same one.

Which one do you have ?

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike,
Yes Dave supplyed me the same cruise switch as yours and it works perfectly fine. James on the other hand says he has a different switch then us.

Ash

Hi Ash - that just leaves the steering ecu then !

Mine is ref :- 1K0 953 549 AF and according to ETKA requires the same retro-fit kit as ecu part no. 8P0 953 549 F that everybody seems to refer to !

Can you remember your ecu no. ?

I fitted 8P0 953 549 F
not the AF version, it could be this which is causing the issues, i was advised by all to get the F version for it to work properly.

i think you have the 1K0 version, as im thinking that is what i had in my car to start with. though i did see in the coding of my original unit that i could enable cruise, but since i already had bought the 8P0 ... F controller so i fitted it.
i only coded the steering controller in one place where you can set if you have just the mfsw/with bluetooth/with voice activation/with bluetooth and voice activation.
then I coded the engine to tell it that cruise is installed. so overall 2 changes made to enable cruise

Cheers mate - think I'll have to give Dave a ring and ask him if he knows of any difference/problems in coding CC in different ecu modules

Mike

I have an 07 S3, is it likely ill have to change my steering ECU? (im currently offshore so cant pop out and check!)

ok cheers for the info guys, its a late 2004 Sportback 2.0TDI Sport

will try and check with the stealers and see what i need and what is fitted to the car

Same problem here.Did you manage to get to the bottom of it?
