ok, ive been thinking about this lately and after seeing a few cars here working very nicely around the 600hp mark i thought it might be a better idea if instead of throwing heaps of money at my 1.8L engine (for top end, bottom end) it might be smarter to do a 3.2l swap and put a light turbo kit to achieve the 400hp power that i am asking for..
from what i have read i have come to the conclusion that a 3.2l engine running at about 350-400hp will be running a lot smoother and easier that a 1.8L..
most guys don't even upgrade the internals till stage 4(550hp) and have had no problems, so i think this will be the way to go for me. I will be meeting up with someone who has done this conversion to hear his opinions and i will make my decision..
any thoughts?:icon_thumright:

Sounds like a plan... it was something I had considered at one point but the advantage (in the UK at least) of going BT on a 1.8 4 pot is that the fuel economy isn't that bad when you drive normally... off boost the 1.8 will be far more economical than the 3.2 but it really does depend what you want at the end of the day..

There is a guy at Stealth Racing that has a turbo charged R32 engine in a VW Bora 4 motion... not sure what power its actually running but I am sure its well over 600bhp

Should drive and sound nice if you go ahead... good luck :icon_thumright:

This is the route I would be taking if I decided to throw alot of money at the S3.

I recently seen a low mileage 3.2 for 1500 and 2K with a rotex turbo. Think it was on edition 38 classifies.

well there are heaps of 3.2l engines on the market at the moment and i can also import one from Germany, the thing is to find an engine that has been treated well and doesn't have 200k miles on it.. although it has been proven that these engines will run foreveeeeer..!!!:)

i wont be asking for to much from it, all i want is a smooth and reliable 400bhp..now as for the fuel economy tuffty i realize that it will consume much more than a 1.8t in normal driving conditions but its not my dayly driver(second small car) so i think i will be alright with that. all i want is to be able to start it and have fun with it 2-3 times a week...
im pretty serious about this and i will probably end up keeping my 1.8t if i can store it somewhere out of my way...:icon_thumright:

well its not really a big difference than going BT with a 1.8t..

Ye but a 1.8T sounds rubbish lol. I love a 3.2 and the engine is silky smooth plus its different

800bhp is more like it mate, things a total animal, it was meant to be at pod sunday apparently but didnt see it, will be heading down stealth again soon will get some pics if its around, total sleeper look too apart from a silly big exhaust poking out the back lol

Jody at midland VW has a rotex supercharged mk5 r32 with 400hp. Might be worth speaking to him too. Be quick though as he said he was selling it.

check the op's location dude.... :)

expensive phone call lol

Putting a turbo on a R32 lump is not cheap at all?

If you are looking to do most the work yourself then maybe it is worthwhile? I would rather just buy a mk4 r32 turbo £16-£17k should secure you a minter, there is a couple for sale on the R32oc forum atm.

3.2V6 T over a 1.8T big turbo anyday...

this is what i plan to do at some pont with the S3 that i will be buying soon, ive ran 400hp + in my VR6 Turbo raddo for some time, its a solid engine,ARP bolts and spacer plate, rest of motor is stock! so the r32 will flow even better, question is if you swap the motor for the r32 how will the haldex and esp be affected as im assuming the s3 ecu has this built in ?

yea i know of the controllers thanks,so by that answer does that mean you it will loose the haldex unless you buy the controller?

if you use a r32 engine wont the ECU for that engine have the haldex stuff on it?

plus the cats, lambda'sambds mate...bah! still would like to know if the haldex is controlled seperatly and is not part of the ecu or does it take readings from abs/esp ?
