pulling my hair out slowly, cars a w reg quattro, done all the normall tests,no fault codes, replaced coil packs, plugs,dv valve,n75 valve, green temp sensor, samco intake pipe, checked for air leaks etc, remapped ecu,(fault was there before remap)car has a very slight miss on light throttle from cold and then when on full throttle when hot seems to hold back/missfire and it feels like the boost comes in and out,car idles fine etc, dont think its fueling, could be the maf but thought that would bring a code up???someone must have had this problem and fixed it as i dont want to just keep buying parts for no reason, any input would help,
cheers

Don't often get a code from the MAF matey.

You need to data log it with VAG-COM and it'll show you straight off if that's it.

Just did it to my S3. I was sure it wasn't going right, logged it and the airflow was intermittently dropping to 0 under boost and not getting anywhere near the peak numbers it should have.

New MAF and it's a new car. Almost the difference between chipped and unchipped.

I have seen plugs cause similar symptoms to what you have seen but a new set would probably have cured it.

Gavin

cheers going to try a maf i think, nothing else left to try!!!!!!!!!1

as another on here has had the same fault and it turned out to be the fuel pump failing,i have a new fuel pump from audi but not sure if its the correct one for my car, does anyone the part number of the fuel pump for a 2000 w reg a3 quattro??????????????

I reckon you'll be good if the basic part number is the same on both. If the letter on the new one is higher, it'll be a better pump usually.

You can read the old old by taking the panel off under the backseat or boot.

Gavin

will have to have a look,the new pump i have is 1j0 919 087 g,

also what do the last letters mean with the part numbers on the pumps, does anyone know??also anyone have vagcom in the worcestershire area that fancys hooking my car up to,,,

so as long as the first numbers match the one fitted to my car then it will be ok to fit

I've got the exact same issue, had it for months been to about 5 garages, changed all the parts you mention plus a few more and still no joy! It's going to another garage tommorrow and TT shop sat if still not right!

It's not as evident without the re-map on. Feels just a little vibration at 5200rpm and surges slightly when holding speed but when mapped you can really feel it backing off/missfiring HARD!

I will let you know immediately when I find it because I'm quite aware how irritating it is! It's depressing me about what is otherwise a superb car to own!

tell me about, thinking it may be the pump, would be very greatfull if you can let me know,
cheers

Exactly the same issue as I had... What was it? Failing fuel pump here to! Apparently can be common issue. Def worth checking out, my engine bonnet would be hotter than normal after a run! A sympton it's running lean. Problem is when the car needs the optium amount of fuel it doesn't get it as the pump is failing.. only noticed it when mine was remapped. Standard you'd never know! And course no faults are logged on VAG-COM just engine missfires on log 006 if my remember serves me right. APS diagnosed it after taking it to a few garages who didn't have a clue.

any idea of the part number of the pump?????they fitted,on the receipt may be,also a take it there is a inspection panel under the back seats to get at the pump

Err none what so ever im afraid. Why don't you call your local Audi dealer, go through to the parts department, quote your reg and ask for the part no and they'll give you it. If I remember correctly theirs different components to the pump you can order think theirs 2parts to the pump I could well be wrong... Yes you access it from under the rear rear seats by lifting the rear bench out, I know that much!

cheers, local audi dealer wont give me the part number, assholes, they say there not allowed too, what a load of rubbish, yes there is two parts, the pump and the sender that clips on the side

You could log the lambda probe with VAG-COM and see if it's going weak under load.

Gavin
did check the lamda sensor with a multimeter to make sure it hadnt brokern down and was ok then but not sure under load as i dont have vagcom

Seriously mate ring my audi dealer they'll give you it!!! Just say you want a quote and part number. That's crazy! No is 01604 683555 and ask for parts department.

cheers mate,will do,listers of worcester=assholes!!!!

Ha ha 01604 you must be a Northampton man!! Spooky. I always expect internet folk to live on the south coast, london or Scotland.. they usually do.

well phoned audi today, the pump that is fitted to my car is a 8l9 919 051b which has now changed to 8l9 919 051g,have had the pump out of the tank to have a look at it,now the pump itself sits inside the plastic body/swirlpot,i took it out to see if it had any numbers on it etc which it has,my one has a number 3 on the bottom side of it with some numbers on the side,i also have a brand new pump complete which i was told will fit but the number on that one is 1 jo 919 087g which i was told by audi that this is a quattro pump but not the one for my engine code its for a AQA code engine and mine is a AJQ one,the new pump has a 9 on the under side of it,anyone know what fuel pressure these audis run at??audi can get me one with the correct part number for £180.86 plus the vat, dont really want to pay that if the one i have is up to the job,if its lower pressure pump then it should miss and hesitate but if its a higher pressure one then the regulator will cope with that, also rang awesome gti who said the only pump they could get is standard but the other thing that might be causing it is the maf,has anyone got vagcom in the worcestershire area that fancys hooking my car up to to log the maf readings or to see if theres another fault with it,i have connected up tonight to it the tester from work and it did say evap system leak, not sure if this is correct tho as it may be giving me incorrect info, also do these cars run two lamda sensors????up and downstream???
cheers

think the 8l9 919 051 g pump is the one to go for

car is not playing up last night, very strange,,,,,,,

i got a simular problem on my 1.9tdi a3 holding back changed loads of thing but still aint found the fault went ok last weekend then went bang monday and blow the turbo pipe off scary moment lol back to normal now i put the pipe back on still got holding back problem check out full story on 1long lasting problem lol hope u get it sortid mate does your head in lol:sadlike:

Good additional info mine does the same occasionally when driven late at night (i.e. goes like a rocket) suggesting that it could be something temperature related.

Also definitely not the fuel pump in my case as the car gets richer not leaner when the problem occurs. You can see the fault quite clearly on a dyno print out. It shows up as a big dip between 3500rpm and 5200rpm then clears and accelerates properly for the last 1000rpm to the limiter.

so has anyone logged lambda readings and MAF whilst this hesitation is occuring?

spotting any step change events?

Sorry guys. I gave up on it. Bought an N/A engine instead and went for an M3

Still points to the original fault as colder temps cause more power therefore more fuel demand?

need to get this looked at now as its getting worse, anyone with vagcom local to me in worcesteshire

will have to book it in at my local dealer else,:(

have no idea, how is it reset?????have just pluged my hand held tester in and has brought up the codes 17963 and 17521,anyone no what these are fault codes for???

might be getting somewhere, just found out that 17521 is bank 1-sensor 1 internal resistance too high,o2 sensor that means,i know the car runs one but does it run 2 sensors????the second one is charge pressure upper limit exceeded, also just run the car up the road from cold and it misses under light load at low speeds that tells me it most likely not the fuel pump, disconected the maf and tryed it again and it seems to be alot better but the car does seem to smell, and it also popped up another code saying the maf circuit was at fault which it would do as it was disconected,i know when the maf is disconected the car uses map base settings,if the o2 sensor is faulty would it give me this fault as it reads the engines feuling and is always changing it as the car drives????????????????

just been reading some old threads and i think its the maf, going to order one from tps in the morning
