I've just bought a second-hand stainless exhaust for my '00 1.8T Sport.

The cat-back system was from a '98 1.8T.

I've had it at the tyre/exhaust and I've had to go pick the car back up without it fitted as it wouldn't fit. Wrong bore, wrong shape and too long.

So, my question is... do the early 1.8T's have different exhaust bores, and could it be from an Avant with it being too long?

Or have I just been shafted? :eiertritt:

it's probably a turbo back exhaust. Mine was, i had similar fitment problems until i twigged it.

You got a pic?

Will take one now and post it up...

Can I remove the cat completely without a problem (apart from MOT)...?

yep, it's what i did, i then bought a 200cell aftermarket one and sleeved it in under the tunnel at the rear

Here it is...

****,thats different to mine, mine had the 3 bolted flange on the end. I also note yours doesn't seem to go upwards much toward the cat/turbo, seems to be aimed more for the flexi...

Avant and saloon exhausts are the same i believe. I am sure if you bung a few quid at a powerflow or similar guy he would sort that out for you, i bet it's loud though being single box

Best i could get from engine bay mate

I'm puzzled as to why it won't fit to be honest. It looks like it should go straight onto the back of the cat/flexi - off to a Powerflow agent on Saturday morning, so will see what they can do with it...

Hopefully get it up on the ramps this evening for a preliminary look myself so I know what's going on.

Grrrrrrr! lol

...from this car... that's being broken in the Leeds area:

As long as she's a turbo there shouldnt have been any fitment issue at all, maybe it was modded to bolt/clamp on before the flexi ?

or even just after the flexi. The stock downpipe has a good 3-4feet of pipe between the flexi and middle section joint

Well, we'll see what the guy thinks on Saturday morning. If it doesn't go on, it doesn't go on... simple. I'm not cowboy'ing it on at all!
