tsi vs tfsi

Not too sure but I'm gonna take a guess!

TSI = Turbo Supercharged Injection?

TFSI = Standard Turbo Petrol?

Unless it's the same thing and TSI is the new version of the TFSI?

I dunno, I'm sure someone will have the answer.

Hi

Never heard of the TSI engine in audi ranage. Do you mean 2.0 FSI non turbo? TFSI Vs FSI? As Wai-Fan said not too sure. Where you hear Tsi from mate?

Ashley

I have seen a 1.4TSI S Line A3 well at least that was what it was badged as anyways.

FSI = Fuel Stratified Injection
TFSI = Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection

AFAIK anyway.

Jono

Sorry Misread the post, Never heard of TSI the normal none turbo direct injection cars are known as FSI

I know Audi make 1.4TFSI and a few members on here have it but still not heard of TSI. I'm 100% sure there is no engine in the A3 range by TSI.
But if i'm wrong pretty sure some one will correct me :)

what about the tfstifsi....... lol

i think its fsi and tfsi

sorry ye the tsi engine is in the rocco and golf range at the moment i think, but y does a 2.0 tsi (turbo and supercharged i persume ) only produce 200 bhp and a 2.0 tfsi (only turbo) also produce 200bhp? should it be much more with a supercharger?

i know what you mean now yeah i heard of a golf with a supercharger and turbo i bet you could tune that to death ..??? could you ..

and yeah you would think it would take a 2.0tfsi ...if it was 2.0 litre that is im sure its a 1.4 though ??? anyone got any info on this

The 2.0 TFSI and 2.0 TSI engines are very similar.

They are both regular turbo engines - no superchargers etc.

TSI is a ******* confusing range now, as some are supercharged AND turbocharged, whereas some are just turbocharged.

VW have dropped the TFSI branding, and the latest 2.0T engines are now "TSI" - i.e. Mk6 Golf, Scirocco, etc.

I'm sure there are various differences, but the only thing I've found so far is that the 2.0 TSI has a regular air box behind the headlight, as on the 2.0 TDI (same size filter), rather than the air box on top of the engine you get on the TFSI.

AFAIK, the TSI engine are in the VW range and are 1.4 litre engine with both superhcarger and turbo charger. Supercharger is used for low revs and the turbo for higher revs. This used to come in 140 and 170 guises but now 160 in the golf. Though I believe the Scirocco uses the 140. There is no 2.0 TSI that I have heard of yet. VW use the 2.0 TFSI in the Scirocco and Golf and obviously Audi though I believe it is a slightly different turbo in the Audi range or just between the S3 and other 2.0 TFSI engine.

TFSI meaning turbo direct injection. FSI is VAG groups name for direct injection engines...

Please anyone correct me if i'm wrong...

rocco has a 2.0tsi engine, think it doesn't come with any type of tfsi.

You're wrong. :p

Please see my post below.

For any engine code geeks...

2.0 TSI I believe is a CAWB, CBFA, CCTA or CCZA

Older 2.0 TFSI engines are AXX, BPY, BWA etc.

TSI means Turbo Stratified Injection, i used to own a TSI 170PS GT SPORT Golf.

I'd still have it now, if the recent job change didn't need a diesel for the trip to work and back.

Really good engines, the TFSI's which are put in the Audi's are downgraded a lot on power, some TSI 170's have put their cars on the rollers as standard and have come back with results of over 185BHP.. obviously i have no idea how accurate the rolling roads used were..

The 2.0L TSI doesn't have a supercharger, it's only certain models of the 1.4 TSI that has the charger.

Haven't the new TSi engines been revised so that the fuel pump is driven off of the exhaust cam and not the inlet? (Need to check the accuracy of this statement so don't take it as gospel).

The new TSi engines have MUCH and I mean MUCH more torque than their TFSi equivalents from the little I have read. Also marked improvements in CO2 emissions. In the article even the magazine said it was confusing to work out what meant what.

The new SEAT Ibiza Cupra / Bocanegra has a 1.4TSi engine with 170PS, and I initially thought it was a supercharger / turbocharger configuration (using the supercharger the offset the initial turbo lag maybe would have been a smart move). On this site: LINK it says it is a twin turbo configuration (on a 1.4 4cyl??) - see "Under the hood section"

main.php

All a bit confusing to be honest, but then all I need to know is 'Does it REALLY go?"

So you get:

1.4 TSI which is a supercharged AND turbocharged engine.
1.4 TFSI which is a turbocharged engine.
1.8 TFSI which is a turbocharged engine.
2.0 TFSI which is a turbocharged engine.
2.0 TSI which is a turbocharged engine.
3.0 TFSI which is a supercharged engine in the new S4...

confusing or what!

complicated ***** huh! onlyr eason i ask is i want to upgrade from my 2.0 tdi to either a tsi or tfsi, what does everyone think? which is better, tfsi or tsi? i want one that i can mod easily (remap, exhaust, air induction etc) that will give better gains cos i get bored very quickly :p

The TSI is just the newer version of the same engine. Maps may be a bit thin on the ground at the moment, but that won't take long.

The TSI is the newer engine, so probably the best option, but you'd be looking at a brand new car pretty much to get that one.

This is correct. :o.k:

Confusing as all hell now, but no worse than BMW's model configuration which used to indicate engine displacement, but now they just pluck random numbers out of the air.

Audi aren't using a TSI engine as yet are they? only the TFSI's in the A3 unless things are changing in the next few months?

I only know of, 1.4 TFSI, 1.8 TFSI & 2.0 TFSI and the S3 2.0 TFSI???

Anyone knows the differences between 1.8 tfsi and 2.0 tfsi?

  • need to know if 1.8 tfsi dont give problems and if the Setup of the S3 (turbo k04, injectors and IC) is plug and play in 1.8 tfsi.

    regards

Hi.
How to check / identify the engine?
I have a 2.0tfsi quattro s-tronic.
Produced mid 2008
Last time at service at Audi the tech
guy told me that the engine has no timing
belt. It is equipped with chain!
Does this mean any thing?

Thanks
