Black roof on 54 plate A3 3dr Hatchback??

looking at this A3 on Pistonheads, and it had a black roof, i've not seen another, was this an option?

Only available on A3 Sportback models

So Yes it's a Sportback only option.

With its 'black roof effect' the open sky system looks fabulous and is fabulous. It provides a tilt and slide sunroof at the front and a fixed skylight at the rear. Blinds if you enjoy gloom. I regard this as probably the most enjoyable selectable option. It looks best on the pure silver colour IMHO.

i think the black roof looks stunning

having been in the golf scene for a while i have seen alot of roof painting done and i do really like it

i would paint mind if i could have modifications but insurers wont let me.

sort of agree with Lex but not 100% sure it works this time, I have had dubs as well and my last MK4 nearly got the silver and black treatment, had some TT Sport rims I was going to have matt black with polished lip! Got bored and sold it before i spent a fortune on it though

Its an attempt at a Euro look

A lot of VAG cars now a days are having aftermarket body mods and this include a black roof - inspired by the M3 CSL

There are quite a few Bora's, mk5 golfs over here in NI with this modification

IMO - quite pointless, works sometimes but not with the A3 above!

For example:

There are about 5/6 identical golfs like this all from the one area here in NI lol but in different colours!

Decided to be different and go for the black optics on my A3 along with a carbon bonnet

Ok maybe it isnt carbon and dont worry its not gona stay black, just undergoing a facelift, it was a new bonnet, its currently in the bodyshop been painted akoya silver

Never seen this thread before but I find it quite interesting that as soon as someone makes a good car with a specific design feature it then becomes a fashion accessory for the modding scene.

If I were to design the R8 V10, or next M3 and I fitted them with, lets say, white tyres....I bet it'd catch on. And of course I'd have already invested in the white rubber market.

The bmw M3 CSL. It has a carbon fibre roof, not just painted black.

am a massive fan of the csl personally but people been painting roofs black before that came out though, been doing it for years on jap cars and euro motors in the states. don't think modders are trying to emulate production - not many production cars with different coloured roofs

Yes but there certainly has been an increase in the trend since the CSL though.

agree to disagree, not worth bickering about! been into modding in one form or another too long to expect to agree with everyone, I remember arguing with a mate over our vw beetles 17 years ago about cal look, resto cal, rat look etc sorry, memory lane, off topic etc
