I just need a memory jog thats all!

I presume the glovebox, when opened, is supposed to lower itself slowly??

Mine flops open straight away when I pull the switch so I suspect something is broken

Any solutions?

I recently tightened a loose screw which is located on the pasenger doors side below the glove box - this has solved an infuriating rattle! (well I hope it has)

my glovebox creaks when opened - but if i take the plastic plate off at the side of the dashboard this stops so its something to do with this not sure how to stop it though

There is a damper fitted to it so my dealer told me. Had what they called a damper replaced under warrenty.

Basically you need an 8mm socket on an extension, open the glove box there are three or four bolts at the top, one at the back, a couple underneath. You also need to unclip the panel on the end of the dash, just put a screw driver behind it and flip in out, there is one more bolt behind there. It then will lower down.

You can gain access to the damper by only removing the panel on the end. One end of the damper snapped of on mine so i had to glue and strengthen it.

I have a spare damper if anyone is interested, I bought it then didn't use it.

If you remove the damper there is a pin through each end if i remember right.

They normally dry up, so i took the plunger out and lubricated with some rubber grease.

It's a common problem of it breaking! Do a search and you;ll see that there's a fair few people that have had the same problem. Mine broke on mine after a few months. HAd it replaced under warrenty.

I had the same problem i glued the piece back on then re-inforced the piece of plastic either side by super gluing a block of plastic or metal either side (cant remember which, ill have a check later)

Ill dig the little ram out if anyone wants to buy it. £15 delivered

i think the problem could be that with time the ram becomes stiff and put alot of pressure on the weakest point,bad design really,ive got warranty on mine,do you think i should just send it in to be done? ive only just got it back because the emissions light was on lol,they tried to charge me for the diagnosis on that to,THE CHEEK

Anyone know if there is anything documented by Audi on this as mine's just broken and I've got 1 month of warranty left, keen to make sure its fixed for free

if you have a months warrenty left then they are entitled to warrent that so get in asap!

cheers - appreciate that but I've had all sorts of aggro proving warranty issues with Audi dealers that I'd rather go in with a reference number and save myself multiple visits and a whole barrel load of stress,

Thanks for this thread chaps.

Just got around to having a look at mne.

Damper had sheared just like others suggest above - because the piston had nearly siezed.

Stuck it back with superglue at the joint, then used Araldite to strengthen the joint and finally used a large blob of epoxy putty to completely strengthen the whole joint area.

Left it overnight to harden and then slowly opened the glovebox. It was really stiff (obviously the cause of the break in the first place). I used copiious amounts of silicone oil to lubricate the piston and after very slowly opening & closing it a few times to work the lubricant through, it seems to work perfectly again.

Then I realised that the glovebox light still didnt work and wondered if I'd ******** the light switch in the damper assembly but realised that it was simply a blown bulb....

All perfect again for zero outlay and just a few minutes work...
