I brought a carlton once from this bloke who thought he was ripping me off at £170 as the oil pressure light came on after the car had been on a run. This didn't show on a test drive and he obviously knew about it but what he didn't realise was that it only needed a oil and filter change to sort it out. Trouble was somebody kept trying to steal it, twice they had a go but was unsuccessful as the steering locks were pretty robust in those days. In the end I got the insurance company to right it off and got more from them than I paid for it....The Carlton estate was one of the best cars I’ve owned. We had 3 young children and a retriever and it took our little family and the associated paraphernalia all over the place. It was the first car I’d owned that had a 5 speed gearbox, rev counter, sunroof and a decent radio/cassette player built into the dash. We thought we’d really arrived!
