Here's quick cell-phone photo of it in the Handover bay, waiting to have the plates attached.... And waiting..... For a phone call from Audi. Dealer can't tax it. System comes up with a red flag. We won't know why until Audi return his call. Hoping to pick it up next week but until we know what's the problem it's anyone's guess.

The colour is Daytona but it shows some strange coloured reflections in the photo, probably from halogen lights in the ceiling of the handover bay. Two-tone Daytona Gray and British Racing Green; should be a standard colour option. :)

Dealer prep is immaculate, not even the tiniest blemish anywhere. Just can't drive it. :-(

Oh no mate sorry to read this - so near but so far ! Reminds me of an incident in my teenage years but we won't go into that. Any idea what this red flag business is about never heard of that before I'm thinking you went in earlier to sort out all of the financial stuff ?

Anyway, second time lucky keep us posted.

Best colour by the way welcome to Team Daytona!

Dealer's guess is that it is a parts recall. But it is just a guess until Audi call back.

They are just waiting for a volunteer to go running in front of him waving a red flag.....

Looks great, what an annoying thing to happen.

If it's their fault then I suggest seeing if you can get any freebies as recompense for the delay. Free service or what ever.

So, a quick update.

Spoke to the dealer today. The car has an out of spec component in the engine (I don't know which component), presumably spotted in QC. Solution is to fit a new engine which is easier than taking the engine apart to replace the faulty bit. Engine will arrive during the week of 5th May.

Dealer has been very helpful and I was offered quite a bit of flexibility as to how to proceed. I'll most likely take an alternative car (from the same dealer). Will update later this week.

Dissapointing not to be in my new motor again today but manufacturing faults are a fact of life. It's being handled well so I have no complaints tbh.

Bummer. As long as the dealer fully funds your replacement and it's not a wee A1 1.2!!

Sorry to hear. There is no way I would take a car with an engine replaced after manufacture. I would want a new one from the factory.

Would it still be registered as having an engine change before delivery??

Wow, props to the quality controls, though I can't understand why it wasn't spotted at factory instead of when your mouth is watering (I see the drool in the pics :welcoming:)

Hope they give you an RS3 :D

I was wondering the same. There are about 30 cars needing the new engine apparently. If the engine is swapped before the car is first registered I can't see it would be recorded anywhere. If I walked into the dealer mid-May and bought the car from showroom, would he be obliged to tell me the engine has been changed? I doubt it.

Anyhow, he has now found me another car and we shook hands on that. Picking it up Saturday.

Colour goes from Daytona to Glacier. I, lose BSP, Red Calipers and Privacy Glass. I gain Sunroof and B&O so the new car is a couple hundred more but the dealer is funding that. Sorted :)

That's what I call a result...Good to see the dealer is looking after you.....:friends:
As for the engine change on the other cars..... Makes you wonder if there is a ticking time bomb waiting for cars they have missed in QA ??:sadlike:

I would have thought the change away from your preferred spec would have been worth more than 'a few hundred'.
Sadly every time you see one in Daytona you're going to look at it and thin "if only"

Bloke up from my inlaws has had a grey 8V S3 for about 3 years now, I'm still not sure whether it's Monsoon or Daytona!

I see the drool has been wiped from this car! :yum:

Gratz glad you're happy :)

I had lava grey on my 8P for 4 years, I would highly recommend glacier white over any grey!

I just love this car.

Big achey face grin going on and still sober at this time of the evening because I'd rather be driving :)

It's been more than a decade since I had a nice car so I have lower expectations than many on here. As a younger chap I drove 'sporty' versions of family cars. Had a Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth, then a Vaxhaull Calibra Turbo, a BMW 330i Coupe and a Volvo S60 T5 etc. 6 years of city living with no car caused me to lose interest completely, then I retired, went suburban and bought a Polo 1.4 to do the shopping with....

.... so my impression of the S3 is based on someone who drove to the dealer with 85PS and drove away with 300 PS.

That said: OMG WTF STFU Etc.... This car is the doggies danglies. Seriously some of the posts on this, and other forums had me expecting a skittish bouncy thing with no steering feel; talking to my insurer about overcoils and being circumspect about B roads. (Confession: I didn't test drive the car). But this thing is just so capable. Funnily enough, my wife in the passenger seat did think the car was 'floaty' intially although it never felt that way to me. When I really dug in though we both had the impression of something really settling down, even over greasy roads and fresh tractor mud, exit speeds from bends are ludicrous compared to what I have encountered before.

Meh. It's all subjective I suppose. Maybe the car just suits me. Dunno. I'll be surprised to get 10,000 miles out of a set of tyres at this rate though. First time in a long time I'll be setting the alarm early for a morning B road squirt. Love this car.

As someone who's been on a similar car journey to you I totally identify with everything you say! Had a couple of decent performance cars in my early twenties then boring family roundabouts for 20+ years. You know the saying absence makes the heart grow fonder :)

Enjoy every minute of it mate I know I do. Honest to God I love my car more every day :rockwoot:
