Hi guys,

Firstly I'd like to to say hello to everyone here. I've recently parted with my VW Golf GTI and stepped in to the world of the Audi S3. I've always joined forums in relation to what car I have as it's always good to speak to people in the know! So, hello!

Now to my point... I bought a 2010 Audi S3 sportback s tronic this weekend and I absolutely love it! But i have done the classic mistake of rushing in to buying a car (heart ruled the head!). The car drives like a dream. It's got full Audi service history with all the correct documentation in place with the car etc...

I have noticed that the service light was on when purchasing the car... Just a service I thought, I can get it done at Audi Manchester, no big deal. However, it turns out that the gearbox oil change should of been done at 40,000 miles. I have bought the car just under 44,000 and after contacting Audi they have infiormed me this hasn't been done yet on the vehicle.

Can someone let me know the implications of these additional 4,000 miles? Would this of dramatically damaged the gearbox? It's booked in next week however I'm now beginning to panic.

Any advice would be hugely welcome. Would you suggest not driving it until this is done? As previously mentioned the car has been well looked after with full service history with 1 previous owner.

Many thanks in advance,

Daniel.

Hi and welcome

I have heard a few stories of the mechatronic part failing, Audi try and blame it on not having the gear box oil changed at the correct milege, my work mate (Golf) DSG stronic box failed on this part just past 44000 miles, VW did repair it at the cost of over £3000 even though it was out of warrenty, the experts will be along soon to correct me and offer good advice lol

Thank you both for your replies!

Like I said the car drives near perfect and did come with a full Audi service history so it has been well maintained.

I'll definitely limit any more milage on the car until this is done next week.

Thanks!

Haha! I'm sure they'll be a few people with some ideas for improving my S3 and what to have done... And I'll no doubt be open to some of these  (floodgates?)

Changed mine at 46000 when I bought it, now on 63000 and no bother. (Touch wood!)

For a minute there, that first reply made me think i was back on the Subaru forums. LOL.
These things are not made of chocolate! Just because it is not serviced does not mean it will immanently fail.
Mechanical sympathy ensures a car's longevity alongside regular and proper servicing.
Mind you, that 'sympathy' cost me thousands in my Subaru. LOL.

Then DONT look at my thread. LOL

My car was going to stay untouched until I found this place.

Get the gearbox oil done and then go and get a remap.

One thing I will mention is we had someone of the forum recently who had S-Tronic issues and had just bought the car. It turns out the gearbox oil hadn't been done at Audi's recommended mileage and Audi were quite resistive about helping out. I don't know if the guy got any good will on the end, but they can get funny about it.

For now, change the oil immediately and you should be fine (fingers crossed!) as they seem pretty good.
