HI All Im a new Audi owner with an A3 DSG. The problem is the gearknob surround is wood. Wood should not be seen in a car its for tables and bed etc. Does anyone have the part number for a black or silver surround? Ive called TPS and they only have a wooden onbe for my car. The black ones have different part number but Im thinking they should fit.

my cars a 2005 2.0 140 BHP

Thanks

nerrr! mine came with wood finish, and i hated it, but after a few weeks i started to feel like a classy man.

and then suddenly i was better than everyone else!

Haha, wood does split opinion. IMO it doesn't really suit the smaller A3. All the gearknob surrounds should fit, and it's easy to fit too (open your ashtray and pull up on the gear surround; it just pops off).

My A3 Sport cam with the "static-prone" dark grey panels which I have painted silver (including the door trim pieces too). It was pretty cheap to do and the effect is pretty good. I also did my ashtray top too (which I assume would be wood in yours also?); the rubber strip trim on the lid just needed dremeling off from underneath but it clips back on fine after paint has dried and looks nice and neat.

Dealer S-Line silver stuff is very expensive (there's a few different silver trims too, make sure you get brushed silver, not the early dimpled aluminium I've seen which doesn't look anywhere near as nice).

Do you have national trust sticker in your front window and a quilted blanket on the back seat!!!

Wood make me feel older than I need to.

ordered some carbon to cover it.

Cheers

I have the wood trim in my car and i absolutely would not change it. I love it.

Me for wood too! But if you must change the gear surround, make sure it's for a Dsg. The shape of the chrome insert is different underneath and though they look the same from above, they won't interchange.

+1 for vinyl... £7 mod, any colour you want practically then that way you can revert back to standard when selling!

Or buy my entire white trim inc grab handles......

Heres the Item number 250628762904 I went for the larger size in case I mabe a mistake but with hindsight the smaller size would have been fine.

It was really easy and took about 30 minutes. Removing the gear surround, just pull the leather gator out, unclip the silver surround then pull the surround up. Its all just clipped in. The ashtray remove the 2 screws at the front. then pull up.

As for the wrapping I cut the rough size out first. Then just stuck it on and used a hair dryer to soften the wrap to make it easy to work with. On the ashtray to remove the insert use a small screwdriver or a knife and work it from one end. Its just stuck on with tape and a few grommits. Careful not to lift too high as I snapped one on the silver inserts on mine.

30 minute job in total.

If anyone else is doing this project, I am looking for wood trim for 5 door DSG

I'll be looking to do it in the very near future pal, have a 5 door dsg
