Hi guys,
I'm new here and I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
My problem is a strange one, my stereo(cheap aftermarket) used to work fine, but the memory didn't work. Then after a year or so it started to not work very well at night(crackling as if listening to the radio and the signal is bad). It gradually got worse to the point where it jus wont turn on.
All of this only happens at night, it works perfectly in the day time.
I finally pulled it out and wired the 12v memory and 12 ignition correctly and it now keeps its memory correctly but still isn't working at night.
I decided it must be either temperature or light. Today during the day I had the stereo on and it was working perfectly until I drove into an underground car park and it turned off as if I'd pressed the power button. I hadn't turned anything or or changed anything so it definitely seems to be light affecting it.
Is there anything that turns on automatically when it's dark on this model? Is it possible(it's highly possible!) that I've still got the wiring wrong?
When I bought the car it had an after market cassette player that I replaced with the current one and the wiring was awful so I bought a repair kit on eBay and wired it as I thought was correct. I clearly got at least two of the wires the wrong way round so it's very likely there is still something wrong but it seems right to me.
Any ideas?
The car is an A3 8L from 1999. It's a 1.9TDi 110bhp.
Thanks in advance!
