Hi all,

Due 4 new tyres on my 07 S3, currently running Michelin pilot sport 3s. I like the tyres and get on well with them put before I jump in and get another set I would like anyone to recommend any other tyres and a brief discription why they are good and why you use them, and any comments on the pilot sports would be great thanks

Tom

Currently running pilot super sports - found them to be very predictable in the wet and outstanding in the dry. Had PS3's and although they were a good all round tyre, they'd lost some of the dry performance that the PS2's they replaced.

Eagle F1's seem to be the tyre of choice on this forum... They are thought to be the best all-rounder

I just put some Eagle F1 Asym2s on Friday. Awesome and as Jacko says, well recommended around these parts.

Just bought another set of PS2's for my S3, getting them fitted this weekend.
Couldn't find anything better for the £.
Heard a few horror stories about SS's aquaplaining in heavy rain.

I went for Michelin PS3's. The general consensus in the forum was Eagle F1's but after researching reviews and reading a few side by side comparisons the Michelin's won overall.
I've tried a few flavours of Michelin, Contis, Hankook and Toyos on previous cars and Michelin PE2's were my favourite for all year round grip and great tyre wear.. hence choosing the PS3's for my S3.

Supersports also here.

As you say, excellent on a dry warm day,and pretty close to a trackday tyre like the Toyo R888,but with decent wet weather grip.

What I've found since it's getting much colder now is that the grip is definitely going off,and the car will understeer a good bit more easily than in summer.

Good tip,and one for me to bear in mind.

I can also turn the boost right down until then!

Best tyres I have had are as said eagle f1 asym 2's excellent grip in wet and dry. So good in fact I have just ordered my full 2nd set of 4 as the last ones were on my last car. Well for £407 include delivery from camskill

Thanks lads. Think ive narrowed it down too, ps2s, ps3s and eagle f1s. Although I do remember a bloke at Audi telling me to put contis on he said it would change the ride but can't remember what ones.

just get super sports they are good

What's the general consensus on the PS3s? I had a pair put on the front of the S3 back in August and have to say I'm not particularly impressed? (Not unimpressed either)
Seem quite keen to under steer on hard turn-ins?

i would try Super Sport or if ur in a dry climate like Oz. Pzeros only tires ive had good experience in them but this time im heading the supersports route. dont buy second class tires if you can get super sports :D

PS3's or not bad... but for understeering cars that we drive get something that sticks to the ground

Im going for conti 5 soon when i get new rubber so these recommended?

Bridgestones wear too quick. Just fiited x 4 Dunlop MAxx £103 each 225/40x18 seem very good and cheap!! ;-)

i've got contisport 5's on just now... cant complain 1 bit, i'm sure I read somewhere that these were particularly designed with all wheel drive cars in mind?

I've currently got conti 5's and don't have any complaints even in this weather we've been graced with recently.

Why would a manufacturer like continental design one of their main volume tyres for all wheel drive cars when these make up only a small portion of the entire number of cars that would use them. And how do you design a tyre to work better on an all wheel drive car ???? .

All the tyres above are good tyres and the difference between any of them would be small, some would be stronger in certain areas than others. Personally I will be fitting the Goodyear Eagle assym 2 to my car next year. Not an s3 though.

Karl.
