No lumbar??

So who thinks the S Line seats need lumbar support?? I do!
When I ordered the car the salesman said it would have mechanical lumbar support and I need not bother upgrading to electric. Seems the car doesn't have it full stop and the electric option is the only way off getting it. Very annoyed as I find I need it on any seat! Back ache after a 130 mile drive last weekend.
So my question is: can it be retro fitted? What chance do you think ill have of getting dealer to come up with a solution? ie new seat?? Where do I stand legally on this or is it tough luck?

I've had the lumbar support on two A3s but not on the last two I've had and frankly I don't miss it although I appreciate some people would.

I sympathise with your situation and I'd have some very strong words with the dealer if I were you but, legally speaking, I doubt you have any case unless you've got the salesman's assurances in writing.

Sadly, the moral of the story is never to believe a word a salesman tells you as, even if they're not outright lying, they usually haven't got the vaguest idea about the specifics of what they're selling and will just make it up as they go. I'd always check the brochure for specs and, if I need to know about something that's important to me, get it in writing from the dealer and make it part of any order so you have recourse if it turns out they're wrong.

This is a lesson for me. Never bought brand new before. It won't happen again! Next time ill go through it with a fine tooth comb
I'm going to have words with the dealer. Doubt as you say with it not in writing ill get far with them. What's more frustrating is that the guy who was my salesman left after I placed the order. I was then passed to another one which did my hand over. Not very impressed as I had built no relationship with him as I had the 1st chap. Oh well! Like I say. Lesson learned

I looked into this before ordering and could not get a straight answer to the 'default' lumbar support situation so I ordered the electric one as I too would have major issues without one and its absence would be a deal breaker for me as I could [edit: Could NOT] take the sledgehammer in the spine feeling medium term. I do know how uncomfortable it can be if you don't have one.

As a wider topic the Sports seats aren't really Sports seats; just some added padding in the side bolsters and a bit squidgy / bouncy for me.

Most upset! Think I may go to the dealers in the morning and see what they say! I'm so glad I don't use the car a lot, just a as a toy really otherwise it'd be a major issue. Only done 600 ish miles since pickup on the 1st

My sales guy specifically told me that non-electric did not have adjustable lumbar support. Shows what a range of quality there is across the dealerships.
As a point of interest, my sports physio, who has worked with England cricket and rugby, says lumbar support is actually generally very bad for the back and encouraged me to reduce it in my car seat to help with my lower back problems.

That is a good point of interest! I find without it I get lower back pain. Odd how posture is so different between people.

Does seem that you have been a little mislead by the dealer and would definitely argue a case for some sort of recompense from them. I do notice however that you have opted for sports suspension, and its associated harder drive, and suspect the dealer may also use this as a mitigating factor in any claim for a new seat etc.

Personally speaking I actually find the seats very comfortable, and probably the best seats I have had in a car and have driven back from France (5 hours non stop) without any back problems, but in general do not have any back/lumbar issues. That said I have had slight back aches on the same journey recently in vauxhall's, Pegeot's and Kia's

Dave you are right, I have got the lower suspension and I assumed the same as you. They will play on it and try to use it as a reason. The Misleading sale though should be in my favour right?

To be honest I doubt whether the salesman will admit to providing the wrong information, but if you make enough noise , in the right way, you may get some sort of good will gesture , but I am sure they will not admit any liability

have only driven on test drives so far, but I was very impressed by the seats, I suppose is down a lot to your size, height, personal preference etc. but really impressed me on bumpy lanes.

I had an issue with the lack of lumbar support in a car many years ago. I very much doubt that you would get any joy from the dealer and any option would cost £££ for a new seat.

In my previous situation I spent ages looking for a suitable small cushion. The best I found was (ahem) one of the mini cushion/pillows that you get on a long haul flight. Get that covered in a suitable fabric and it can just live at the bottom of the seat-back at the right place.

The cushion idea is good already thought about it. I wouldn't need it all the time as I don't often do long trips so it could live in the boot until req'd. Think it's the best option so far

That was my solution for my first 20 years of driving!
