Release of TDI 150 Quattro manual?

Has anyone heard yet when the TDI 150 Quattro manual will be released? Surely it can't be long now the 184 Quattro S-tronic is out. I've got an order waiting to be slapped down and the dealers' being coy...

Well, it's been out in Germany for a while and I'm told the UK follows the German market spec quite closely - certainly mechanically so on that basis...

If the dealer is being coy, usually means they don't know.

It's one of those things, will they see a need in the UK line up for another engine variation with quattro, or leave it for the higher costing quattro s-tronics. For me, if they had done a 150 TDIQ with s-tronic, then i may off ordered this.

Germany always has far better choices on options and specs, even the Mk7 golf is available in 4 motion, but this will not come to the UK market as less than 5% where sold with the original TDI 4-motion which was last shown on the Mk5 golf.

Thanks TDI-line! You just ruined my day!... ;-) I've been waiting 18 months to order an 8V S-Line SB Q manual since losing my 3 week old 8P SB S-Line 170 Q to delivery damage... Now I have to admit that Audi in their wisdom might not give us a manual Quattro... And I am truly gutted... I am waiting for a test drive in a 184Q but I really hate autos and don't think I could live without a clutch and a proper gear stick. Why-oh-WHY Audi?!!!!

From what it looks like, Audi are trying to team up S-tronic and Quattro across the range - can't have one without the other (expect the S3 I think, which is Quattro and manual)

Have you tried DSG autos? I was of the same opinion as you until I tested my current DSG Golf GTi. I was smitten and will never go back to manual. Likewise I was smitten by the 184PS Quattro auto box and now have it on order.
I hope you are pleasantly surprised!

Your welcome, just call me Doom harbringer. It's one of those things, yes they may release it, or no they won't.

It's like waiting for the next Black Edition, seriously how long are we prepared to wait.

Personally i've been converted to the DSG - S-tronic gear box, started off with a Touran DSG (bus), A3 8P TDI DSG, Tiguan R-line (but the was just crappy auto box). Then my favourite, A1 Black edition 1.4 TFSI 185bhp coupled with s-tronic, when the turbo took over from the supercharger, you needed both hands on the steering wheel with 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. Funny enough, the new A3 TDIQ 184bhp, does exactly the same 0-60, and that's a heavier car and diesel! Food for thought.

Go for a test drive PembsA3, and try a few launch's, you may actually like it.

I have tried a few... My father recently picked up a new Tiguan DSG and is chuffed with it, and I admit it drives well... I've also driven an 8P TDI 170 S-tronic and was pleasantly surprised but... call me old fashioned but I like a clutch and gear stick! I popped into my dealer today and chatted about it... The salesman himself prefers manual but to be fair he did try to convince me of the benefits of the S-tronic. I have booked a long test drive in their S-line 184 S-tronic demo so we shall see. In the end, if they don't/won't release the 150 Q manual then I think I will have to concede and go with the S-tronic because i want quattro, and reprogram my brain to be 'pro auto'... Either way, even if I order now he says I won't get it tilL March!!!

Sounds like a plan.

Other benefits of an auto box are not worrying about clutch control on steep hills, just brake and go, and also when crawling along on a motorway due to congestion, it will just bite forward slowly on itself, or you can just add a light touch to the throttle.

Your dealer could always source a built spec in the UK, and they usually swap one of there stock cars for it. That's what i've done, so i've only waited 1 week for my car from sourcing to collection. Collection will be the 1st Sept.

What spec would you choose?

I am slowly coming around to the idea of an S-tronic... I guess it's a reasonable compromise to get the 184 and Quattro. I hope the test drive convinces me and I can finally get that order in. Interesting what snakehips says about dealers swapping orders... My dealer said they can't do that when I asked... And he also said that once the order was placed it couldn't be changed at all - not even something as small as debadging!.. After the conversation with the dealer yesterday I changed the spec slightly...

The spec can be changed up until about 4 weeks before build. Plenty of people on here have made changes, myself included.

I once had an automatic hire car for a couple of days. It wasn't a good one but it was very easy to adapt to. The only problem I had was when I got back in a manual, I kept forgetting to dip the clutch when stopping.

wow, bad timing to get wrong, I have only driven automatics a few times, and they definitely take getting used to and did the same thing whilst manoeuvring but nothing like that. I'm assuming your dad was ok.
I love driving a manual and would always stick too and the auto is much dearer, although I do hear its good as autos get and has the paddles to over ride if I'm right.
Until the car can drive you home from the pub on its own while I have a sleep which is a few years off yet then I'm not keen on some the more advanced driver aids.
Auto parking etc. seam a waste of money unless you struggle to do it for yourself and then should you be driving anyway?
I can do it all perfectly well with mirrors and if its really tricky i can use the back window and its not like I can be doing something else instead while it drives ( unless see above ).
I turn parking sensors off on current car as just gets annoying (It wakes me up ! )

I agree with this. Convenience is king. I think the reluctance comes from complacency due to a lack of practice, which can lead to future parking mistakes, possibly in other cars. For me, I've gotten better at parking the more I've done it. If I do it less, it stands to reason I'll be out of practice and look like a tool when parking someone else's car.

I'm sure people moaned about the same sort of thing when automatic chokes, synchromeshes etc all came in.

I don't really understand why people don't like S-Tronic? I guess it's like Advanced Key, once you have had it you wouldn't be without it!

I understand if you want a performance car or something to drive for fun you wouldn't want an old slush box auto, but the S-Tronic isn't one!
If you want to drive it manually just knock the lever aside and use it as a sequential gearbox or the flappy paddles, it will change gear quicker than you can an a manual.
Or for a lazy commute and when stuck in traffic just leave it in Auto.

We had to cars, a big auto 4X4 and my manual Scooby and I swapped between them no problem

It not that I'm against all of them, they are very clever and I like most of them and have lots of tech at home etc. plus have spec'ed the ones i see as worth while, folding mirrors for example are simple but great in small parking spaces and protect mirror in some places,
hill assist great idea but is £90 so well worth it, lots of standard tech included is fantastic (abs etc. blue tooth, xenons with s line, sd card reader, heated washer nozzles, great idea in winter etc. etc. all make the car better)
But if I added all the auto parking, camera ,auto lights, auto wipers, driver / side assist etc. etc. it would have added approximately £2800.00 ! + Intrest on loan, To my spec of which virtually all would disappear in depreciation after 3 / 4 years!
All for things that I can happily and capabily do myself without a second though.
Trying not to sound *****, but parking for example, is so easy i don't see need need to fix a problem that doesn't exist for me.
It would have to save me a lot of time or effort, for that sort of money, but it won't so i can't see the convenience for me.
I Would rather upgrade to the 184 ps diesel and save money / add to fun and final value to the car.
everyone likes different toys (Pano sun roof for example!), and very little is actually needed but to say its a reluctance to use technology is a bit of a stretch to say the least.

Auto gear box I can't really comment on, it may be great as you change gear thousands of time a year if it makes and improvement it is probably well worth it and I know a lot of people love it so is probably brilliant, but budget didn't allow for an extra £1480 without compromising on too many other things.
