On the Audi website it suggests you should check the oil level on a regular basis and you may need to add a pint of oil after 400 miles from new. I thought it was only the ****lel engine that consumed oil in such a manner? Why does the Audi engine consume so much oil when new?

Not sure - it's hardly expensive stuff though for a single topup!

All new engines will consume some oil in the first few thousand miles. Mine has taken around 750ml, the majority within the first 1000 miles, but has now stopped consuming it. I think it's just the seals and piston rings bedding in.

This is pretty standard for all new cars. Often they give you a litre of oil for the purpose.

My A3 has not required any oil as yet, my Q5 @10K has not used any oil, you need to treat the engines mean, don't nurse them, oth vehicles are the 2 litre diesels.
My previous A4 diesel never used oil between services work the engines.

My car was supplied with a litre of oil, after 1700 miles, and I checked it today, it has not used a drop. Amazing, most of the new cars I have owned have all used some oil.

Thank you Mark, looks like I have nothing to worry in respect of using excessive oil? I will keep you all updated, once I have collected my new car on 1st Sept!!!!!

That doesn't mean your car won't use oil, some use more than others so keep a check on it.

Good Luck for the 1st Sept.

Mark
