taking engine out

FLOL at this thread and comments. I vote for him to down a can of 'man up' in one and lift it out solely with his wang :)

This thread had inspired me further.
Thankyou all

I shall not let you down

On a serious note - Don't do your back in if it can be avoided. If it's any consolation, I've just taken mine out with a crane and was easy peasy to manouver out of the bay.

I've had to change the rover k series engine out the engine bay on my own without the gearbox connected. Pure determination haha.

Karl using a single jack and a piece wood is the best way to do it, we do this at work and its easy, you have loads of control over the engine, best of all it will only take an hour or so to have the engine out and on the floor

Good luck mate :)

Where as I've man handled my gearbox and engine it's a ****** nightmare

Got to remember you've got to get it back in! Which is harder trying to get it to line up with the box splines and bolt holes

Let the ego suffer a bit and get a ****** hoist or crane of some sort ;)

Don't put him off lads! This thread will be epic if Karl manages it!... or fails terribly :)

without reading all the wang based comments,

i've done probably 50+ engine swaps on mk2/3/4 golfs, a3/s3 etc etc and i have a crane but never use it, i have a dolly (4 wheeled frame / board)

once all the loom etc is out of the way and complete fron panel off, i lower the car until the dolly takes the weight of the engine (i have wooden bolcks to hold engine / box straight) simply undo the engine and box mounts then jack the car back up leaving the engine resting on the dolly to be wheeled out of the front. no swinging around on a crane and stuff at funny angles.

he's got his wang stuck in the sump hole and is too ashamed to ask for help getting it out :sob:

I really hope he didnt try life it out by hand.....especially after all the posts telling him how to do it safely:weight_lift2:

ASN calling Superkarl............................
come in SuperKarl..............................
Are you there SuperKarl......................

over

He's on the floor with his internals hanging out his bum!

Some one should go check on him though............ We kind of peer pressured him lol

Sean

Nah he's fine. I'm sure and hope he's done it sucessfully!

I think it terrible that this guy promised to lift his engine out with his wanger , and not one of his friends has gone round and smashed his back doors in to make sure he is ok !!:undwech:

Im alive and well!

yesterday i did very little, VERY cold, attempted to seperate the gearbox but, in all honesty being a total noob i didnt do it.
Phoned my dad (mech) and hes going to advise on how to seperate them so i can lift the block out. I try to do everything i can on my car, but ive no mechanical experience and every so often give my old man a ring like 'ive done this, now what do i do'. Last thing i want is to start openinv the gearbox casing or something stupid.

Anyway im off to see family today, till monday. I might do some more next week. Time is my enemy like it always has been.
i have everything i need to titally rebuild an engine including a new turbo and all the supporting stuff. I JUST WANT THIS ****ING THING OUT.

Phoned my mate about his engine crane, hes still using it on his 200sx, so thats still a no no.

Once my new engine is all assembled i do want to put it in the car all complete (box, transfer box) so by then i should be able to borrow my mates crane. But for removal i just want to get the dam block out. Im doing an exchange plus some cash for a good one, and the other person is using my damaged bore block for a stroker.

not touched it for a week.
went away over the long weekend, and this week i've had stuff to do closer to home. Car is 25miles away.
working on it tomoro tho, and sunday. hopefully have it out by then. with pics...

good luck! out of interest does anyone know how much these engines weigh...? whilst a 160kg deadlift is not bad it's a bar with evenly distributed weight and easy grip and an engine is just awkward.. still that being said i always try and lift awkward stuff just to say i did it!

Lol Paradox1 what's your name Omar :)
good luck with getting the engine out SK loads of pics please :)

I picked up a complete 1.8T bottom end out of the boot of my mrs Golf all by myself - it was hard but doable - just about.

It can be done! But don't just use a trolley jack - its so much easier :)

yeah lifting it out of a boot is one thing but lifting it our of the engine bay is another. you gotta get the right angle to lift it id imagine.

The block itself is heavy nevermind the rest

death by dangerous lifting... not so super karl! good luck!

Its definately do able as ive kept lifting my engine in and out of my cupboard at work although have to admit as soon as got the head on and mani's etc 2 of us have been doing it

Jacks or something will be needed getting it in and out of the bay if doing the full engine as its one thing picking an engine up and moving it about but its a hole different kettle of fish trying to hold it in a set position for bolts to be done up and undone :)

Although i'm sure Karl will manage some how....just pop some roids ;) :weight_lift2:

Look let's stop putting him off, and cheer him on! The defeatist attitude will ruin him before he starts and I for one want to see how this pans out. GO Karl its your birthday , go go go Karl ! Loads of pics though mate and keep a digital camera nearby as I don't think your allowed to use your mobile in the ambulance or the hospital :-D

Stace, do you remember how awkward it was trying to mate my gearbox up to the block? It was so damn heavy on its own. The box, block, and head together will be impossible.

Yes mate was a challange in the early hours of the morning after a good few beers and curry.....you worked us like dogs but did keep us all fed and watered ;)

Although it is a challange on a fresh head feeling 100%
