A3 Quattro KO4 upgrade, its started

Thing is though he wont, the car is a 2012, its on lease hire, he cant map it as its not his so he wont run the risk :)

I love the S3 8P but tbh its a lot of money for what is only a mk5 golf (ive got one of those already) also the 8P is a 35 grand car, it should run rings round Ron but i dont think it will tbh, time will tell :)

Well in that case enjoy the silence from him ha

pretty sure if they made an 8l s3 brand new now it would cost around the same as an 8p does, 10 years time id say you could pick up an 8p for the price of the 8l's now.

But anyway, we want videos of the cars you slay, as you know without evidence it obviously didn't happen :moa:

Union street plymouth mate, loads of Meth down there....

Haha, fair enough. Don't worry about my link in that case!

Really glad you've got good results out of this Phil. Sounds like you're quite rightly loving it and on the right track to making it an awesome little car. I look forward to seeing it sometime.

I'd be interested to have a run in yours and Jardo's back to back as I'm still not sure what turbo I want to go to on the Scirocco. The k03s would give enough power to keep me entertained for a fair while, I'm just not so keen on the lack of power in the top end, I don't think it'd suit the Sciroccos character, you just don't need the low end boost with such a light car, it doesn't need much power to drive around when you're not thrashing it, so I'm thinking I might like the more linear delivery of a k04 running at lower boost a bit more. It'd be interesting to see what they're like back to back.

Robin you are more than welcome to Drive Ron anytime mate, what i like about ron is up to about 4500rpm its quick, over 4500 its an animal, you can almost hear the exhaust/boost/engine note go from powerful to screaming like a hurt cat :) its so addictive its untrue

As for the Meth, £15 postage is fairly normal, i dont mind £40 for 20/25lts but the 2 companys ive spoken to what to know so much, first off they wont deliever to a private address :( ok so i can have it sent to work, ok there is a motor trade tax, YES thats right, if they think its being used as fuel then its £48 for 25lts, so i explain its a spray, that is sprayed into the inlet manifold, ok so now they will send it to work, AFTER ive given them my name age DOB, full address, if less than 3 years my last address, and i would have thought they want to know what i had for lunch aswell :(

Dont get me wrong, its not a problem, as im not a bomber, its the grief that goes with it, but im gonna have to order some monday regardless tbh :)

As for the price of 8Ps in 10 yrs, all i can compare it to is this, a 10 yr old S3 range from 1 grand for a dog upwards, an 54 plate mk5 golf GTI so 9 yrs old start at £6500 for high mileage low spec crap, imho when an 8P is 10 yrs old it will still be a 7k car :(

Now i will be getting a video tomorrow :) i let Joe a mate drive ron (joe works for mark who owns the 8p) when Joe got out the first thing he said was that will eat marks S3, it pulls so much stronger than his. That made my day :)

So last night i went to Exeter to watch City play, i took Rachels mk4 TDI (god its awful to drive) and was really looking forward to driving Ron this morning, 2 things, i slept funny and have a major sore neck/shoulder and 2 Rachel used Ron (instead of the mk5 golf) to take the oldest to youth club, and she said, it drives ok bearing in mind whats been done to it (her way of saying its spot on) she doesnt like the noises, the rushing of air and the DV, but yeah shes happy with it (winner), anyway, so i go down to she if Mark wants to 'play' but for some reason he cant :( Joe then told me that Mark is no longer keen as he has heard its quick (his way of saying he doesnt want to be shown up lol)

Im gonna give Ron a bath, and then im gonna move the Meth on light to the boost gauge pod (so i can see it) and also mount a red LED there aswell so i can use that as a low level warning

I need BRAKES asap, i had another near miss and tbh 288s are crap, Ron spools up so fast that its a time bomb so porker or LCRs are needed asap, shame funds are so low atm :(

Dude, you need to start selling yourself as ASN's very own southwest mobile modder! I reckon the likes of me and Jardo should have your brakes covered in no time lol

Russ you know me, always up for helping if i can :) been out in the car again (i know im always in it lol) and i think the 288s are dead, pedal feel is awful now, but that could be because i used the mk5 and the 312s on that give a great feel, so its prob just because id got use to them, or maybe me justifing the fact i need better brakes on Ron now :)

So when are we gonna fit your mani dude?

I know the 288's are carp but its also a case of when you need/want to do something you accellerate the carpness in order to justify the big red shiny expensive thing you want. At least thats what I did in order to justify to myself buying Brembos!
Its my bday tue next and I'm going to book in to Volkscraft for stg 2 Revo on the day as a present to myself so I'm desperate to get the fmic and mani fitted first, having an arm in a sling doesn't help though!! And some c*&t jsut trashed the rear 1/4 os which now needs a respray, angry bunny today. Sure we can have a whip round and all contribute to getting Ron proper brakes, after all you'll be a ****** menace without them :)

Sorry to hear about your arm being in a sling dude :( ok what even is best with you for me to come over? can get the cooler fitted and mani

gutted to hear about your rear 1/4 dude, hope its not to bad

you will have to drive Ron and see what you think dude

I can't wait to drive Ron, it'll be a kick up the bum to get my project finished and up to R-tech!
I'm free every sunday and monday with a constant supply of enthusiasm, coffee, chef prepared fine food and a willingness to get stuck in!
Rear 1/4 is being payed for by employers as its there fault, should create a nice atmosphere in work lol

Cool, ok will give you a call later and arrange to get it all sorted, you know me all i need is coffee and im happy :)

coffee, ciggys and kebabs make the world go round when working on cars ;)
God that makes me sound fit and healthy

Have the discs turned blue yet? I know of a 260bhp hybrid k03s bora still on 288s and it goes through discs very often. Everytime I see it the discs are bright blue lol.

They are showing signs of blue'ing lol, and they fade quite quickly esp from speed, its stupid if i dont replace them asap, with that in mind i have to make my mind up if im gonna go 312s to keep me going for a while, LCRs or Porkers, if i fit 312s it will delay the large spend, so really its between the LCRs and Porkers, can i have some advice on whats best, in my eyes LCRs are but then the price of discs is a little off putting tbh, porker ones look good as they use 312s, so discs arent a bad price

Or put another way, can someone say Phil, ive got xxxxx setup that i removed from so n sos car, you can have it for £xxx, will be spot on for Ron and will save a lot of ifs and buts and maybes from me :)

Ok so today i decided i was gonna change something i wasnt happy with, when i fitted the meth kit i fitted a green LED so the LED lights up when the meth pump is running, i mounted this on the steering column upper cover, great perfect place, but ive found when im in my driving position i cant see the LED and i also started thinking about where i was gonna mount the low meth level LED, so i decided to mount it on the boost gauge as the gauge is in eye line

here is a before and after
D5C92304-B6E8-429B-85E5-8B6B874FF1A2-1231-000001611AD55915_zps86c0dcf5.jpg

and fitted
3DAFD71E-7490-4356-8A83-A648397AB886-1231-0000016121E0CF20_zpsd4c92115.jpg

Now perfect reason to go for a drive and make sure im happy :) when the meth kicks in the green LED is in the perfect place, really happy with it :)

but as a down side i now have a hole in my steering column upper cover, so if anyone has a black column cover upper and lower let me know :)

Looking good Philler, Line of sight is always prefereable for stuff like that :)

Thats what i was thinking, its perfect now, Nick do you know how many wires the brake pedal switch has? reason i ask is niki said about fitting a switch so instead of tapping the brake to change the map settings i can just press a button, if its a 2 wire (i dont think it is tho) it would be easy, take a feed off each wire to a push button so that would bypass the need to tap the brake pedal

Also niki said that i may have an N75 valve iffy or actuator, anyway once ive sorted my boost weeps i need to fit a bleed valve in par to the 75 so it cant produce more than 21PSI

and i think ive got a meth leak around the pump, its damp in there (very) i PTFE taped the unions so im not sure where its coming from, the only way i could find it would be to take the nozzle out and power the pump, that way i should see it, Oh the joys of having a powerful car :)

Also I'm gonna fit the NGK spark plugs prawn what was the part number, for some reason I've got BKR7ES in my head, and I'm gonna remove my AC pump does anyone know the length of the belt I need? And with AC in mind how do you get round the fault codes it will cause by removing the pump?

strange how it feels I've got more to do now then before it was mapped lol

BKR7E Phil, I have a feeling the ES is gapped differently but same plug. Don't quote me on that though.

Not sure on the belt length, but it's just a single sided one rather than the old one which is double sided. I went into TPS and just said 'non aircon 1.8T aux belt please'

As for brakes, get the LCR's. discs arn't that bad to replace, and cope with heat much better

Thank you mate :) coopers have just started to sell NGK so will get 4 tomorrow :)

also im gonna prob get this

ECS Tuning Coilpack Wiring Loom Replacement

now the link is here i will be able to find it LOL, thats off another thread atm and Prawn as you know my coil pack loom is really badley cracked

today i may just have to paint my FM after checking Jardos car over

right well things have changed massively over the last couple of hour Ron has suffered a heart attack :(

Now im not messing around, Jardo and Joe came over, jardo has issues with his car and we were looking into them

we Painted my FM and the pipes black, to add a more sleeper look, i then took Joe out in it, got the engine nice and hot and nearby is a nice long straight bit of road, it was empty so i done a standing start, everything was going fine, pulling well and as i went into 5th, i saw smoke (not white or blue) in the mirror, lost power, ECU light started flashing, and a misfire :( my instant thought was coil pack failed
Drove home steady, at home i scanned it, at this point Nikis map made me laugh
8822B87E-625A-4823-B62E-879AA27ABF08-1524-0000022C0F9DFB72_zpse8df09e8.jpg

so i we swapped the coils with Jardos, still missing on cylinder 2, out with the compression tester

cylinder 1= 150 PSI
cylinder 2= 0 yes thats correct ZERO

im so gutted i cant believe it, best case burnt out valve, worst case ****** piston, now with the plug out i can see the piston crown and it looks fine, if it had dropped a valve im sure i would see damage on the crown

so looks like the head is gonna have to come off, now even if it is a valve im thinking im just aswell do the rods as im half way there while the head is off

Im so gutted its untrue :(

Before you do anything worth checking injector seals, I had one come off before and stick in the inlet valve, same issue as you. Fortunately it was on the centre valve so had the recess in the crown. I'm guess though you burnt an exhaust valve.. Tough luck though.

Gutted mate, hope its nothing too serious. Got a couple of spare heads kicking around if you need any donor parts, anything I can help with drop me a text

I would not worry about the 1st message, just means you have hit the limiter. You'd get that on a stock car if you did the same

Dan thats a good thought, will check that out asap, i think its a burnt valve (gut feeling) the engine internals were the great unknown, it ran well until today :(
Im thinking if the head has to come off i think i should do rods anyway

Russ thank you dude, that would be awesome, will find out whats happened and will give you a call :)

The first message made me laugh, the smilie face was a great add to the code :)

no compression on cylinder 2 is a major worry, im going out with the kids for a few hours, fresh air hopefully will make me feel better

If you had dropped a valve I would expect the spark plug to be well ****** and you would clearly see damage to the crown. We had a MINI Cooper S drop a valve and it was carnage in cylinder 1.

What's the compression on 4 like? Whip the inlet off if you haven't already and see if anything is a-miss, failing that exhaust mani:3sadwalk:

Also, this may be the last thing on your mind, but I can check the A3 I'm breaking for the steering cowels if you like?

^^ That was my thought if a valve dops then the crown is ******, looking down the plug hole the crown looks good, could be a burnt out valve tho, will get the inlet mani off later and see what i can see, just gutted atm

If you have got a black column cover that would be awesome, but atm ive gotta spend on the engine first, if you could keep it for a week or 2 that would be awesome dude :)

No problem bud, I will have to check the condition and will let you know fella.

Is it breathing heavily when you're turning it over? Would determine between a valve seat and melted piston. Also worth doing another compression test after 30mins, as I've had the issue before of the springs being too weak and the hydraulic tappets taking up the slack and dropping compression to zero, if you left it half hour compression would be restored.

Standard cars have the smiley face with that fault code, its a Ross-tech thing :)

hmm didnt think about that, it was about 2 hours ago so will go out in a bit and test it again, fingers crossed its that, tbh if i had put a hole in the piston i would expect it to have thrown out massive smoke from the exhaust and the plug to be covered in oil, the plug looked fine tbh

you Sir have given me a little hope

Ok so i went out to see whats happened

first up compression check now engine is cold
1=165
2=Zero
3=170
4=170

next i took the injectors out they all looked fine
1635A200-3CC1-48E9-870D-C5F2424B5751-1524-0000023E2210571A_zps1dfba004.jpg

nothing a miss, so i then took the rocker cover off
A1260AF4-3E35-4395-AD8C-6C7EE186D71A-1524-0000023E38DD592F_zps7c993f58.jpg

everything looks fine, turned the engine over by hand and the valves are returning fine, next up was to remove the inlet

A67EE3FB-F42E-43C3-B069-92C183C552D3-1524-0000023E3006C6F0_zps3f9b5b89.jpg

think ive found the cause of this problem :(

C55F129E-A86C-44DD-94A4-90EB2076D7E7-1524-0000023E2A46C3C8_zpse853cc82.jpg

all the 12 inlet valves are opening and returning fine, the seats look ok, so the head is gonna have to come off and im expecting the problem to be a burnt exhaust valve

I made a massive error i ran plain water in my meth, Niki has told me when im flat out and then change gear the pump is still going so for a split second it is spraying water in, this dosnt atomize like meth would and has prob played up the pressures in the cylinders, untill the head is removed i really dont know for sure

The only good thing to come out of this is i never replaced the belt and pump so that will be done, also as the head will be off im gonna fit Rods aswell, so over time Ron will have a full bill of health

I really hop my turbo has survived, i really do, if not i will prob have it hybrid'd

****** hell sorry to hear about the problems mate hope I don't join the engine damage club next lmao

Sorry to hear. Think I'm going to steer well clear of WMI, all I read about is problems it's caused with syphoning, leaking, killing TBs and now this. I like a reliable solution :)
