I'm looking to buy an A3 sportback but will only be standard when I buy it, i'm wanting to make it look slightly similiar to the SLine version with small and subtle mods but when I look at the standard sportback and compare it to the sLine the standard looks bigger at all angles for some reason.

I'd just like to know if the cars have identical outer shells and is it just the spoilers/wheels/lowering/performance etc that affects the sline? Could I make the standard look like an sline basically :p

I've been through a few threads and alot of people seem to just be buying slines and modding from there but I haven't really managed to find anyone with a standard sportback and then started from scratch modding.

Any info apreciated :)

Your are right in that the shells are the same but the S-lines are lower by 15mm are have minor body work changes and bigger wheels but there is a big change between 2008/2009 when the A3 had a face lift but it,s not impossable to do what you want with the SE and SPORT spec.
I don,t know what your looking to spend or the year of car you want but if poss go for S-line 2.0l spec to start with you will not regret it,I didn't

Good A3 hunting

S-line is lower by 25mm form standard m8.

Thanks for the reply, much apreciated. Cash is limited at the moment hence why Im going to get the A3 standard on around 04/05. Is there any changes to the shells at the back? For some reason the standards look huge at the back while the slines look tidy and smaller. Maybe just the way im looking at the standard sportbacks because they are high up and have no spoiler etc.

If I did get an A3 do you think by lowering/adding spoiler/lights/wheels will make it look tacky or would it look like an actual s-line. I've been trying to find people with standard sportbacks who have built them up but having no luck!

I have no idea what you on about here m8. If you buy standard Sportback there is no problem if you decide to fit in an sline body. It will look like any other sline sportback. Then you will obviously will need to lower it down since sline suspension is -25mm form a standard susp. Now any other mods inside of the car like vents, 2din cage, steering wheel, rns-e, seats, windows buttons, switch light etc. That just another subject and costs. You be better of saving money a buying sline version but that just my opinion.

Doesn't the bonet etc need changing if I change the bumpers? I would buy the front and rear s line bumpers and try to convert it like that but not sure of the costs.

Also would I be able to fit s-line s3 bumper / valance on an 05 sportback?

Wouldn't mind it looking like those ^

Is there anyone who has any pics of their standard sportback and modded it?

Sounds a very expensive way of getting an S-Line, why don't you just add the money you're prepared to spend on the mods to your budget for the car?

That way you should save yourself a load of time and hassle and get what you want to start with! There are plenty of S-Lines out there :)

Says the man who's signature says "Wanted: S-Line Bumpers"? :)

He's right though.

Haha, I admit i prefer the look of the S-line, but in all likely hood i'll never swap the bumpers.
I'm happy with my immaculate high spec SE for now and when the time comes to change again i will be looking for an S-Line but condition, history & spec are more important to me when choosing a car than the model, i looked at an S-Line when i bought my current car, but it had less spec and was slightly older with more miles hence the SE

If you're patient and do a lot of searching for bargins, it's not THAT expensive to make it look like an S-Line.

Yeh, it's probably easier to get an S-Line in the first place, but where's the fun in that? :nyah:

I was just hoping to get rear and front bumpers, skirts and a spoiler and some wheels then it would look like an s-line? I'm sure I could get all of that for less than £1000. S-Lines are way too priced compared to standard!

Would 09 sportback s line bumpers fit a sportback 55 plate without needing to do the bonet etc?

If not does anyone know which year bumpers would fit the a3 sportback and also the rear diffusers?

Just want to make sure I buy the right year sportback to get the s line parts cheap without having to go through all the hassle of new bonet etc, I won't be getting anything above 07!

Mate, seriously, not trying to be rude, but search the forum fella, ALL your questions will be answered. It has been discussed to death.

But in short, NO, 09 s-line front bumper will not fit, unless you intend to change bonnet, wings, lights etc.
But... The rear bumper will fit :)

You need to look at this. 8P1, 8P2 or 8P3?

the 3 variations will not fit like for like, you need a new bonnet and front wings etc for all 3.

I've searched and searched and found only a3 3 door results! So theres no way an s-line sportback 8p3 front bumper from ANY year will not fit straight on? I'd have to change the bonet and wings etc even if it was an 06 s-line sportback 8p3 and ive got an 05 standard sportback 8p3?

I've searched threads and can't seem to get a clear answer on any of this and a rough price for the bumpers and fitting!

Wanting to do this:

But can't get any answers!

Mate, get 8P3 out your head, you have an 05 sportback which makes it an 8P2!
You need to look for a front bumper from year 2005-2008.

8P3 is from late 2008 "58" onwards which is the facelift model.

That link that A3kent posted on Ads conversion, is enough to get you started on the front, it gives you all the parts and info you need. 3 door and sportback have exactly the same front end.

The only difference is the rear bumper, and also the spoiler.
The spoiler is the same across all years for the sportback, and also the bumpers will all fit from all year sportbacks. But to keep it in line with your "8P2" conversion, make you get a s-line sportback rear bumper from 2005-2008.

Also, watch out for the subtle inside changes that may catch you out - if 'standard' and not 'SE' then it won't be proper climate control - just blowers and probably impossible (but nothing is impossible with enough cash), and also central electrics won't support fog lights if car doesn't come with them so that's another module and wiring required. I speak from experience, so just consider not going for the complete bottom of the range if at all possible... as all the 'little' bits soon stack up

Dannykn9 is right, unless your prepared to do the entire front end of 8P3, bonnet, wings and lights etc then concentrate on S-Line bumpers for the 8P2.

if you want to see an A3 Sportback that was a standard 05 sport model and has been built up... then make yourself a cuppa and read though this:

Ash.Net: Retrofits On My Audi A3

Hope you enjoy it :)

Cheers for all the info guys much apreciated, just what I wanted to lnow. And thanks il hve a check at that thread tonight cant wait! Also thanks for pointing that out about the standards, Ill aim to get one with fog lights and climate control.

So buying an s line sportback bumper 05-08 would fit straight onto a standard 05 or 06 sportback?

Without buying new bonet etc?

budget around 700
