Right what stage would we have to tune our S3's to to stand a chance against a 1M?

Basically my brother like to tease me all the time he has the quicker car and we are planing on going on a road trip round Europe in the summer him in his 1M me in my S3. So basically I wanted to start modding my car ready for then so when we hit the auto barns he will have a little surprise.

stage 2, 2+. although in the corners, the 1M almost certainly have some panel damage.

Ever seen the youtube video of the 1M in the wet in china on the motorway??? Man, he floored it at lets say 50/65mph and he was facing the wrong way............ ( in the wet )

I remember at stage 1 level coming across a 320 e36 bmw 6.30am in my first S3 (09 plate), it was actually ruddy quick, so a 09 plate S3 Aggressive Stage 1 , so what 305bhp? Only just, and that is JUST, about 'nailing' this e36 ( not even M3). easily 10 years older than my car. Certainly questioned my judgement.

Corners, and initial set off will play a large part.

There is no denying, BMW have some STRAIGHT LINE grunt

I know where i'd rather sit though, about 9 miles away from their silly 1980's steering wheels!!

there is no denying, the Quattro system is THE best all rounder.

Well.....if you look at the power/weight ratio,and bhp figures for the 1M,you're looking at 335bhp,and 1500kgs,and for a stock S3,265bhp and 1500kgs.
The near equal weights makes the maths easy.....to beat your mate, you would need Stg2+ power and mods,as Stg2 would put you nearly equal on power, but the midrange torque dip without an uprated HPFP will give him another advantage,so it's wallet time.
P.S....if it's the autobahns you're after,don't forget the brakes.

I'm thinking of stage 2 so that we are close I'm not to keen on the uprated internals just because I know what happens if it all goes wrong I know if you check them regularly then it should be fine. My plans are full tbe forge intercooler and stage 2 I have a Itg CAI waiting to be fitted and a milltek back box so just need the sports cat and the conecting parts between. I'll be going for a oscarli stage 2 map as they are basically on my door step. What are the rough bhp figures are they around the 340 mark? Oh and obviously a uprated clutch so fingers crossed I can get that all done by June time.

In a word, YES, Why not come and have a play in my S3, youll get all the noises and the chance to see the new toys that Forge have given me. :)

+ its important to portray that , the problems with cam followers isnt just at Stage 2+ level. they need regular check ups at any level really, just like a man in his 60's ;)

( probably about to be beaten to a pulp with a magnifying glass )

we will have to arrange a meet so I can have a look round your engine bay :hubbahubba: and would appreciate you to take me for a blast in it :racer:

will be happy to. :)

My engine bay, in theory, is very simple actually, but it works extremely well, and its due an update from Shark, so once thats done, stage 2 should be fully alive, currently sat at 337bhp, but i've talked to them since the Forge work and they'd like to have a "butchers"

WHICH IS NICE :)

what are you currently running?

Standard?

That sounds good, I'm currently at standard mode but have a milltek back box on as it was on the car when I bought it. The car was owned by a person in the armed forces and has spent a bit at one of the army base in Germany and was serviced at Audi Germany once. I have a ITG CAI to go on.

errrrrm, how strange,my first S3 09 plate (sprint blue REG: KX09FKM) , belong'd to a bloke in the armed forces, completely standard however, hardly ever drove it, he was out 'there' with his machine gun and 'machete'

Standard Audi sales Speel? hmmmmm

i didn't buy it from Audi I bought it from a high performance specialist down in Bournemouth and I pointed the exhaust out to him as he didn't realise it but apart from that the car was in good condition. The army man swapped it for a RS4. I took 3 trains to get down there left at 8:30 got there at 1. It makes buying the whole TBE system will be a little cheaper now haha. What CAI system are you running? Are you uprating your suspension soon?

Suspension wise, no plans as yet to upgrade (although it really needs it), I'm 23, Fairly recently work for Landrover, so i am finding my feet at the second.

Im running the American favourite, The Neuspeed P-flo. Intake wise they're all much the same, but the Forge Twintake, is very much on the cards....the deal they'll give me on one is unreal! But at my age, money is always going to be a little bit of an issue.

Whether in reality it'll change much BHP wise, I highly doubt it at all. But I guess, it may be worthwhile becoming a fully fledged "forge car".

The mrs wants me to save for a summer holiday....I just spent £1500+on Skiing.....haha her legs are sore apparently...am i doing something wrong??!!

Ah that's sounds good mate I always wanted to get into the car industry but its hard times out there. I'm the same as you money is scarce and I'm 22.

Yeah the whole forge way would be good see if they want you at some of there stands get a deal that way I.e. sponsored.

haha yeah I have a gf who wants a holiday in the summer too what we have to do hey hahaha hope your ski holiday was good think I saw you said you took your S3 how was the journey?

actually took the Mitsubishi Shogun.......... its LWB, big enough for my 2 sets of Ski's and we planned to arrive early, the seats, and even in the handbook says its make a double bed, so we went and did so!!!

Worked really well, Id do it again.

The Shogun does the 850 mile trip every year, and by god is it reliable. So ruddy good, i cant tell you. ( i left at 7.15am saturday, arrived 850 miles later, 12.45am french time (so hour ahead).

The only thing its ever asked for is new brakes!!!

No speed camera flashes either!!!! sneaky buggers with those sometimes.

The japs really excelled themselves.

Currently in my 3 course meal a night Chalet, Mrs fast a kip, bottle of red wine down (included) and had half a litre of beer at the local bar.

Pretty happy overall,

Also means, I dont have to look at Parts Diagrams, and seeing what the range rover sport needs under warranty..... friggin disgraceful...

FYI, the most reliable Landy is infact the freelander....... rather eat my own foot than look at one of those on my drive, personally finally them un-aestheitically pleasing, but hey they're effective.

Mine has had an Autotech HPFP from around 10 000 miles until now(around 50 000 miles),and run anywhere from Stg1 to Stg4 without problems, but like any maintenance item, you DO need to change the cam follower anyway.
The pump does make a big difference to midrange torque, and my own feeling would be that you're going to miss a lot of the benefit of the intercooler by not doing the last mod.
Like I said though...dont forget the suspension and brakes.

Unless you're over 60, and/or fought in WW2, saying "The Japs" isn't really correct in todays society ;)

Definitely no-no for a 23 year old. :D

it's a shame not to get the fuel pump too as it makes the massive difference in the midrange.
