Air Bag light permanently on - Audi want £264!

Just picked my car up from Audi Stockport as it had the coil packs replaced under recall notice.

I asked them to check why the airbag light was permanently iluminated in red (as opposed to amber) and they have put on the paperwork " requires the wiring repairing under the O/S/F seat £264 inc"

Exactly how much wiring do they replace and how big of a job is it?
Is this something I could do myself if I buy the necessary part or not?

I am waiting for N8 to find out how to remove the light with his VCDS, however if I can fix it myself then I would consider replacing the part(s).

iv had this a few times very comon
1st off make sure its pluged in nice and tight

Thanks bez, I take it the plugs are easy to locate under the seat, and it is the passenger seat?

its usaly the drivers side
but can also be the pass seat
pull seat all the way back u will see a black cover there inder there
yellow plug is the bag
if that dont work its the wireing prety easy to do and alot less that what audi want

Have checked both plugs and they seem to be in tight and firmly. Air bag light is still on though.
What is involved with the wiring and what is needed?

did u get the code from audi ?

Yeh common fault on all VAG cars. Get under the seat from the rear and locate the yellow multiplug on the airbag loom. Separate it and clean the contacts. Put back together and reset with vagcom.

Did the trick on my b6.

If the yellow multiplug is goosed then Audi solder the wires together bypassing the plug.

Hardly worth £270 of your Eurodollars

If I recall correctly the airbag system will be inactive whilst there is a recorded fault. Might wanna get it sorted ASAP.

i had this problem with both my seat's. I put a 4.7ohm resister across the wires under the seat's then turned the light of with the computer and it hasnt came on yet.if you need any more info pm me

Hi Bez, I didn't get the code from Audi but am waiting for N8 to get more info on how to turn the light off with his VCDS.

its a 2 min job with vcds
if you was near to me i would have done it

Where are you based Bez? N8 said he is not sure on how to do it and is getting further information from his contact.

(I have also asked him if he can set the auto window closure with key fob too - so maybe he is also getting info for this)

To be honest I would come over to Sheffield if you can remove the light as I'm sick of seeing it!

Excellent guide indeed and very simple job to do. Took me approx 30 mins and seat bolted back in perfectly.

Yes they put on their paperwork O/S/F which I hope is passenger side, but now I'm thinking its drivers side...eek!!

audi said my 2 front seats needed replaced because the connector's where bust. This was suggested to me and has worked. As for the bag's not going off the only ones that wont will be the seat one's... And one more thing you dont know me so dont be calling me a dickhead ..dickhead

i cant see anything wrong with him calling you
you not solveing a problem the advise you gave could have been bad if he did it and crashed
as above plugs off wire up they still work 100%

i wasnt told about cutting the plugs out and putting new ones on... Audi said new seats and i was told i could do the resistor's... Now i know about the plug's i can now change them...

what was your original fault code? can you remember? did it say high resistance or low resistance?
low resistance it needs a new airbag unit.
high resistance in 99% of cases its a wiring problem. usually the plug under the seat. but i had one once where the wiring within the seat had chaffed thru where it passes from the seat base into the seat back.

he did away with the plugs and wired up
i cleared light tonight and it stayed off
so fingers crossed it will stay off for good

had the airbag light problem to, asked Audi they wanted me about the same price, but noway tot hat, i did check the DIY that is posted above, and looked again on the connections and did se that the Airbag connector was not in place, so i did just plugged the connector and the used VAG to remmove the light, after 2 days the light came again, so i did purchas e a new connector did cost £3 and replaced it, now it has been 6 weeks and no light had come
