Black Edition Tyres changed has altered MPG

Hi All,

As the title suggested the front tyres on my A3 black edition has recently been changed and now the MPG seems to be lower than before. The car is a lease car and I have no say in what tyres are put on it, it came with Bridgestones but when I had them changed on Monday Kwik Fit fitted Goodyear Eagles and ever since the MPG has been worse. I have checked tyre pressures and they are all ok. Just wondered if anyone else has had a similar issue??

Also only managed to get 13000miles out of the front set of tyres which doesn't seem a lot! I dont drive the car too hard, and it the 140ps not the 170ps.

Have you had the alignment checked?

Were the bridgestones low rolling resistance and the F1s not?

Havent had the Alignment Checked, might be a good next step. Im not sure if they were low resistance, they were just what came on the car as standard.

I have had exactly the same problem! I went with the servicing and tyres deal... Was pretty annoyed when they wouldn't spec with equivalent tyres from quik fit.... If the potenza's were good enough as per new, seems a bit of a con to downgrade when they wear out?

Not just a case of new tyres = more grip = more engine resistance = less MPG?

When you say tire pressures are ok...what are they ?

are the new tyres lower profile as a small wheel will need more revalutions then a big wheel to do same distance
so there for less miles to gallon
small wheel needs to go around alot more times

I've got 12,000 miles out of some Conti's Sport Contract 2, the grip is pretty good - Just a shame they wear out really quickly.. was thinking of changing to Goodyear Eagles?

Well on one journey that I do for work I could average 60MPG, and on Tuesday the day after they were fitted it averaged 52MPG. And my communte to work is usually 50MPG and Yesterday and today was 42MPG so loosing around 8MPG!

The Pressures are 42PSI fronts and 36PSI Backs, what it says on the inside of the drivers door.

The tyres are the same size as was on before, same profile and everything!

From what I've heard kwik fit are no longer pushing the sales of bridgestones after a bit of a falling out over pricing

60 MPG, That's amazing! the best i've had so far was 58MPG Mainly motorway @ 70mph-ish as i'm running in. My commute to work is 5 and a half miles and i'm getting around 45-47MPG. Cooler weather definitely has an impact on MPG, so maybe it could be that?
