Injector Recall for PD170 - Might be already known to you lot.

Just had to bring in laws to family dinner and having drive like a grandmother I really noticed the smoothness at lower revs.

I've filled it to the brim for the first time since getting all four changed so hopefully I'll get better than the 317 miles from the last tank!

Very good service from Audi Uk as they're sending me out a cheque for the €107 inspection charge too.

Now if only I could get a 07 avant RS4..................

only a few motorway trips but generally local trips which are short so I'm already fearful of DPF problems!

I've tried to give it a blast down the motorway once a week in the hope it might help the regeneration.

When they were changing the injectors and loom they mentioned one fault code about a exhaust sensor.

I must do a VCDS scan this week

Make sure you get the sensor sorted, if not the DPF can get blocked up without you knowing until it's too late - happened to me :(
 
Just emailed Audi Uk cust ser. Will see what it brings. Mine 57 plate 170 S Line S/B. Will report back later.

Audi UK rang this afternoon and said that my local stealer (Chelmsford Audi) would be ringing in due course. They did just that. (so far so good) Then the bull..it started. They have booked the car in for next Wednesday but may have to stay with them for a couple of days. When I asked why they said they have to check the car over and then order parts. I said why do you need to order parts when Audi Uk have told you that my car is one of the affected ones, you should have them in stock . Reply was we dont know if it has already been done as we have no record of your car visiting us before. I told them it has def not been done otherwise I would not be on the phone to you now would I . Then the best bit, when I asked for a courtesy car they said I had to pay £12.00 per day for insurance otherwise they cant let me have one. When I reminded them that it was them inconviencing me and I was refusing to pay the £12.00 a day they said I would not be able to have a loan car. Has anyone else had this problem? I feel like talking to another franchise outside of Essex but that means I have further to travel to get the problem sorted. Any views or similar stories would be welcomed.
 
Had a phone call from Audi today to tell me my car isn't affected. According to the chap i spoke to it only affects the 170 pd MY 06 & 07 so my MY08 140pd is fine, although he then went on to ask if i'd had any problems with!
 
I called to have mine checked and was told that it wasn't one of the effected ones too.

Courtesy car should be FOC as this is a recall from Audi UK. I would inform Audi UK of the problems you are having.

I have a courtesy car booked for when my injectors get replaced.

Get you own insurance to cover you for the courtesy car and see if you still have to pay the £12.00
 
Mine's a March 08 170 PD and is included in the recall.

I used the contact form on the Audi web site to enquire whether mine was affected. I got a phone call from them 2 days later to confirm it was and to ask where I wanted to take it. A few minutes later they rang to say it was booked in with free courtesy car and a wash and valet (not that it needs it).

Just spoken to Audi UK about my previous post and they tell me some franchises do charge for courtesy cars and it is at the discretion of the dealer. They are ringing dealer to waive the charge. I am also going to run a scan with my new xmas toy (VCDS) just in case the dealer tells me I have other problems with the car ( which I know I haven't) I do not trust them at all.
 
Just dropped mine back in to Audi as it seems to have flared up a problem with the gearbox (s-tronic) - it sort of cuts out under hard acceleration. Been absolutely fine driven softly but when joining a motorway I noticed the issued and it struggled to change for a few seconds and almost red lined. Facing an £80 diagnostics bill though if they claim it's totally unrelated, problem is it hadn't done it before the new loom and injectors :(
 
I got a cracking A4 S-Line as a courtesy car when I put the mother-in-laws in to be done.
170 TDi, DSG, full spec, 880 miles on the clock.
Could be worse!
 
Got a 1.4T A3 when mine was in, gotta love the new car smell but god it was slow!
 
Which Audi dealer was that? Mine is at Stockport AUDI on Monday. I'm hoping the R8 is the only car left to take hehehee
 
Manchester. Was hoping for an A4 or something but hey ho. Just picked it up and it was apparently the fuel filter that was blocked. Seemed fine on the run back but will give it a proper test later on.
 
I booked mine in today at Wearside Audi for the 16th jan 8.30am, they offered me a free courtesy car but i declined as they advised it would be completed just after lunch. They were very good and advised it's around 3-4 hours to complete the job.

Yours probably will be affected, seems to be most pre March 2008. Mine was remapped and dpf deleted, just didn't mention it. I wouldn't say anything as they shouldn't need to touch the map etc anyway.

I too think that the car is a lot smoother now and a noticed a slight increase in fuel economy. The car also feels like it's lost a bit of power but it must be the effect of having a smoother car! Glad to see it's just me and not the car!
 
Had 3 injectors replaced last week, took about 3 hours.

Didn't replace injector number 3 as it was replaced in March when my car cut out on the motorway.

Audi UK told me it isn't a recall, just a safety issue so they are replacing as a gesture of good will, had a little moan and the guy at my Audi garage said, 'well at the end of the day it is a gesture of good will, your car is out of warranty now, so they don't have to fix it' - err yes they do as agreed with VOSA.

They have reimbursed me £738 out of the £1700 I forked out in March, so just trying to see if the injector issue caused the car to suddenly cut out on the motorway. I had oil mixing in with the diesel and I don't know much about it to argue the toss with them? Would anyone be able to help me out? I will give a full break down of what happened and tell you what was replaced etc, i just want to make sure they aren't not giving me back what they should give me.

Well, the guy I spoke to on the phone from Audi UK said the problem with these injectors was that the seals on the injectors go bad

Erm diesel in the oil, I wonder how that got there?

Waiting for my case Manager from Audi UK to call me back with a breakdown on the invoice.

Re the oil in the fuel:
When my car went in for service Oct 2010 they 'supposedly' told me that the reason the engine was running rough was due to failure of the tandem pump and I require a new tandem pump, tank pump, injector seals etc, but they never told me this they just put it on the invoice.

So come March 2011, my car suddenly cuts out on the motorway - Audi told me they told me of the fault and I chose to ignore it - which I never do.
RAC guy who come to rescue me said there was oil in the fuel at the roadside.
When the car went into the garage, number 3 injector was replaced along with fuel and tandem pump, injector harness, fuel filter, and associated screws nut and bolts. This invoice was £1767.78 (some money taken off as a good will gesture)

I asked my cousin if the issue with the fuel pump etc could have been caused with the issue of the injectors and he said very unlikely, more likely the oil clogged the injector up. So I just don't know, also don't know why only number 3 injector was replaced in march, need to ask really.

At the mo I am just trying to find out if the money they have given me back (£738) is correct against the £1700 invoice, as its all very confusing, we cant even make out on the invoice which bit is to do with replacing no.3 injector!!!
 
Just had my 170 done at Stockport today!; injector loom and injectors. Car felt and sounded like an old tank when I drove away...that is the problem when the courtesy car I've had for the day is a 700mile old fully-spec'd 8-speed DSG A5 Sportback/coupe S-Line thing! First play with a DSG car and came away very impressed, 8-speed is a little OTT but it works very well and full auto is very smooth. The new CR diesel engine is a million miles better than the PD for refinement and smoothness - pulls well at all revs with great refinement - although being in an A5 does skew the comparison slightly.

Contrary to what other people have been saying, my car feels quicker (sharper throttle response) but I've not driven it much yet.
 
My car feels a bit sharper and faster on the throttle too :)
 
well got a phone call from audi uk today regarding my email and turns out my car is covered and all 4 injectors will be change on the 30th (most convinient time for me) so happy happy:) a load off my mind n hopfully will sort a few niggles with the running of the car i have.

If you're having changing issues ask them to change the fuel filter whilst it's in, sorted mine out. The guy who did my remap said he though the mechatronics unit was causing the issue, thankfully it wasn't!
 
I got mine replaced but i noticed my mpg is now 5hit and marginly better than the vxr i had previously.

I had a bit of bother at the garage because audi uk told them i was creating holly hell on the phone which was utter lies on there part which i was ****** off about because the garage have said they dont want anything to do with my car now.

My car was in twice, first time i got it back they said we replaced 2 injectors, i said great thanks. Audi uk called me i said yes great service but they only put 2 in instead of the 4 and the loom, audi uk said oh well it should be all 4 take it back and we will call them.

So i re booked, told them it wasnt great at starting in the morning & mpg wasnt great so they said they would need it for a couple of days so i got a car in the mean time.

I go back and they say we did nothing and your car starts fine, so i ok but you were told to fit the other 2? There reply no we dont need to they are fine we asked audi uk and they said not to fit any. So i leave with egg on my face.

Following day Audi uk call, i explained to them how they made me look like an idiot in the audi garage and they did nothing to the car and they told me thats because the other 2 injectors are the new part number so must have been replaced. I asked about the loom which they couldnt answer. They asked about the mpg and i said they hadnt done anything to the car so i didnt expect it would get better but i would try it out over the weekend and they agreed to call me back monday.

Monday came they said they had been discussing the mpg issue with the garage and if i wanted to pay they would look at it, i said i wasnt interested in paying to potential gain nothing as they couldnt fix it whilst it was already there (all in a nice manner). I told them mpg had improved a little over the weekend and i was happy with both there service and the local audi dealers infact the dealer was 100% fantastic!

So i get a call from a friend who works in the garage asking me to come see him, i go down and he verbally chins me about the hassle i created for there garage through audi uk. I was baffled!! Explained my side and he said his side of the storey was totally different! Explained the loom had been done and that was the first i knew they had replaced it.

Communication break down i think.

I think there has been assumptions on both/all sides. AUDI UK will assume it needs all 4 but the dealer perhaps took out 4 and realised only 2 needed replacing, sounding like the did half a job but in reality it now has the 4 correct injectors. AUDI UK on your informing of them that only 2 were changed assume that the other 2 still need doing so go back etc lol

I couldn't fault Stockport AUDI, left it with them for the day and had a nice courtesy car (pre-booked with them) and free health check which picked up a few things I was already aware of - touch wood the car seem so far but only driven about 10miles. Dealers should be all over this because it's essentially warranty work that they charge VAG for.

Had my injectors replaced the other day. Not sure why people saying that the engine sounds different and runs smoother. This just isn't true on a 'correctly' running car in the first place. I can only imagine that the cars that have reacted well must have been running pretty ****** badly! My car is absolutely NO different - sounds EXACTLY the same, engine feels exactly the same and is no smoother or rougher than previous - just like nothing had been done basically.

As for mpg - only time will tell.
 
People are probably saying it because there is always a placebo effect when new things are put on the car, but IMO on mine the new injectors are slightly louder than the originals, emitting a slight tappet noise.

I'm probably the least susceptible person to placebo but my car also picks up and revs much better; what confirms my suspicion is that the car HAS had something altered eletronically at the dealer too as I've just checked it on VAGCOM and there are differences in the engine module;

I have no idea why the original engine label would not read, but that is probably overwritten by this new one - the car drove fine but I would say the throttle response is much better now. There is also a "G" suffix on the Component whatever that is and VCID is now different.

Whether brand new vs 103,000mile old ones is the difference I'm not sure but it is interesting that the car has been adjusted on computer too. This kind of tallies with someone who's remapped A3 felt slower as perhaps they overwrite a new map?

I emailed Audi on the 5th January about this recall, got a call back today confirming my car is affected and arranging it to be booked in. Apparently they have have been inundated with emails about recalls, hence the delay. ( prob due to this post! Lol)
 
Mine went in this morning at 9am and i got a call at 12.30 saying it was done and getting a wash, i picked it up at 1.15 this afternoon and just as i'd got home the Audi UK case manager called to check it was all ok.
From Start to finish it's been a quality service from both Audi UK and Wearside Audi.
The car seems a lot smoother with its delivery of power and a little quieter too so i'm fairly pleased.
 
Gents,

Had my car rechecked by E-Maps who have confirmed that ECU settings remain unchanged. All good since my car was remapped before the injector change.

PS

Wife has a VW Passat 140, arranged to have the "workshop check" carried out today and they later confirmed that all injectors and loom replaced FOC. Agree with previous post regarding service. VW and Audi performed well in Edinburgh.

Had the injectors and loom replaced today by Chelmsford Audi. Good job done other than the car only been half valeted. Cleaner must have gone to the loo half way through. Only the wheels and roof were cleaned. Other than that well pleased and returned 48.7mpg on the 25 mile journey home. Never had more than 43.6 since owning the car. Courtesy car was a brand spanker A5 Sportback DSG. Nice car but underpowered, was only the 143.Much prefer the A3.
 
since replacement can't say the engine is any quieter but my mpg has gone up about 10%

for the last 7 days my commute has been around the 56mpg mark whereas before it was around 51mpg
 
I rang Stoke Audi last week who confirmed my car was affected and would need to go into them, booked it for 23/01/12.
Dropped it off this morning 08:15, got a call 11:45 my car was ready for collection. They had washed it outside, tyres glossed and hoovered the inside looked stunning as it had been down to Cambridge last weekend and was filthy. My car has always had a bit of a lumpy tick over when cold, seems alot smoother now, and smoother power delivery, cant comment on MPG as not driven far in it yet.

Is this problem supposedly limited to diesel. Have petrol engine and this is the second time in 14 months that the injectors have gone. Its an 05 model A3 2 litre. First time thought fair enough now am not so sure. Any help greatly appreciated
