Go and watch CBeebies for 2 mins, you'll get the picture :) They seem to let just anyone own an Audi these days....

Settle yourself paddy! Don't tar all us young people with the same brush haha

Just out of curiosity......what would you class as young?
I thought I was young but my insurance is very cheap.
Does that mean I'm old??

LOL just been reading this thread!! Absolutely Hilarious!!! I also wish i had read the other thread. Bored out a extra 4 cyclinders from a v8 to v12!!! LOL

That could be true, that does sound like you :p

Why thank you!

Problem is,I don't know what to do with my tired old petrol banger when we turn the boost back up and get the WMI going... I shall probably scare myself so much I'll have to ask someone else to drive it.

Sorry mate i was young once as well :) I was referring expressly to the deleted thread and its op, nothing to do with age or anyone else here, 99.8% of which are great fun and down to earth.

Cheers :)

Likewise Paddy....even I was young at some time....just can't remember that far back!

Just about everyone here is interested in cars full stop, and not some sort of p*****ng match over who's the fastest,as there will ALWAYS be someone with a faster car.

Frankly I couldn't care if it's petrol, diesel or nitro as long as its fun and enjoyable.

Regarding the age thing, I'm often surprised how measured some of the young'uns are today compared to myself when I was their age. I don't know if it's the sobering insurance cost, or they just have a better sense of what's important in life, but a guy who lives round the corner from me is 22, owns a newish Focus RS and drives very responsibly.

Whilst its easy to think any of us can be old, tedious, boring, miserable, curtain twitching miserly old sods, I believe the intent is that all of us own fairly perky motors, any of us can put our foot down at any time. Whenever you make this choice, be risk aware and do it in the appropriate places (preferably a track, autobahn or controlled environment). The only person who cares about a conquest tends to be 'you', and if people end up in wooden boxes with a life of heart ache and misery just to try and make a point.... I know someone who ran over a cyclist at night, they've never got over it.

If the majority can at least provide a sense of perspective to the odd few who put conquest above anything, if it saves on accident or worse a serious injury or fatality it can only be a good thing. By all means enjoy your cars, but do so having made calculated decisions, and having ensured road conditions are appropriate. I'm almost glad when threads like this come up and you can see the general consensus is for the greater good, restores faith !

I think most of the young drivers are pretty good tbh. They have too much to loose if things go wrong through reckless driving.

Must admit its worse over here. When its rains it draws the lads out in their modded V8 utes so they can donut along the wet roads. There have been a few houses with utes stuck in their front rooms and numerous accidents of late, all could have been prevented. The worst was 2 lads riding their motorbikes in the dead of night, no street lights and no lights on the bikes, riding towards each other, sadly they collided and 2 families are in mourning. But.... luckily they arnt all like this and with speeds being slower over here and the police pretty strict, most are good.

Sarah and Warren....very nicely put.

I know when i was 19 (3years ago) and owned a S3 8L remap'd to 270bhp i never drove at silly speeds. But there was a lot of reasons for this. Main ones being i didn't want to kill myself or anyone else, but also because if i did push it to it's limits, i new i had to fill it up the next day, ha. Plus the excess was sky high and i'd put every penny into owning the car.

If his next thread is anything like his first 2 I dont see him being around more than... 7 days?

"My Audi's rapid blud, just rinsed some R8 ini. He couldnt get the power down but I got bare tourque so I was like braaaap and was hitting 150 before the police was like ow blud slow down before we end u!!!!"

My god this made me laugh.proper bo' a tell thi

OP - in the other thread you mentioned owning a CLK63 Amg which had been "bored out" by BRABUS to a "V12". To my understanding a "bore out" is when the Bore size is increased. A CLK63 Amg is a V8. So how the feck did they BORE out an extra 4 cylinders??
this thread made me laugh, but this comment REAALLLLLY made me laugh

Can't help but think with an attitude like that how he got the money for an audi?! No employer would tolerate that surely? .. Either spoon fed by mama and papa or a drug dealer .. Also speaking on behalf of 19 year olds, We're not all that bad!

be careful or you will get a cap in ya ***, thats if mom will let him have his cap gun back:ohmy:

Well ASN hadnt had 1 of these for a while, so guessed it was due!!!

Ref Tone Loc: lol, Ace Venture, still loving that movie.

I think the problem is "silly speeds" are more redilly available to anyone these days. when i was 19 in 1980 like the op, a car capable of even doing 150 was going to be a 930 Porsche 911 Turbo it would do 160 and 0-60 in 5 sec but cost the equivalent of a 911 Turbo today. I had a MGB and 80 mph was pretty quick in that. My Ducati 900 then was going pretty quick at 100mph, today my last Ducati 1098 did 100mph in 2nd gear. The difference really is today kids think they are clever going quick with their crumple zones, side impact bars, air bags all round, ABS, traction control, seat belts !!, even servo's on their brakes !! Power steering etc.. didnt have any of that on my MGB lol !My girlfriend couldnt drive the MG because with no servo on the brakes she couldnt actually stop the thing, gently slow down was the best she could do in it :)
Cars were also much more fun because you could get hands on and more power was a DIY job. Down the scrap yard, buy a head from a Morris Marina open all the ports out with a drill and mottling point...hours and weeks of polishing, skim .025" off it to raise compression, fit the double valve springs from the MG head to it, junk the 1.5" SU's for a pair of 1.75" SU's from a jag, fit a 715 cam and slotted timing wheels and off you went...:).today you get someone else to re program the computer, takes 20 mins. Your hardly going to learn about engines or get much fun doing that ...lol
I would add the reason older people seem a bit grumpy about all this is...to the young its all new and exciting, to us its all been there done that read the book. The young never credit the old with having ever been young themselves !! Yea i was young did all the same stupid things, lived to tell the tail and "earned" the right to be grumpy :)
The real problem is we have made life boring for kids today, everything is sanitised for them and we wonder why they kick off. In 1974 you could buy a 6" blade sheaf knife in the local news agents with a leather holder that slid on your belt. There would be a card of them hanging in there next to the sweets ...We all wore them and had an air pistol tucked in yer jeans as well. admittedly i lived in the sticks but it was the norm. The local common keeper would have a go at us for shooting the old people coming out of church on Sunday......... because it was Sunday...like it wouldn't be so bad on a Monday :)...today they talk of prison for a knife and quite likely, death at the hands of a swot team for the pistol.......Its all gone wrong ;(

I don't think that is the only reason. The playstation era has a BIG impact on how they think they can drive. I was lucky when I was young (ok, I'm not exactly old now at 26...), not once did I ar*e about on the roads. This was because I used to race competitively so I took out all my anger out in the track. No need to do it on the roads. The way I saw it, get cought going quick on the roads and you get an a**kicking. The faster you go on a track and it's nothing but praise!

People think that because they can pump in a quick lap on their Xbox or Playstation, that they are the next Schumacher. They have NO idea how a car will actually behave when it's on the limit. I remember when I used to race Karts, you have no idea how many people I came across on these arrive and drive days who would turn up in the Golf GTI's or Impreza's that thought they were driving gods! They'd see me younger than them and not old enough to have a driving licence, and they'd think "Oh, I have a powerful car, I know which way round the Nurburgring goes on my Xbox, I'll show him how it's done!" But for every one lap they'd do, I'd do one and a half.

How many people go to the Ring on their first time thinking they'll be masters because they've memorised the track back home, but end up upsidedown on the other side of the barrier? They forget that on the Xbox, there's a 'Restart Race' button when they crash out...
