Project quattro / Don's track toy

The car looks great all stripped out. I still love those seats. Im glad its still going well. How is the family?

That apprentice (Curtis) doesnt work for us anymore. He actually builds the new Mclarren GT3 cars now! It would be great to see you and the car back up at the shop sometime.
Cheers alex! Yeah family's doin good my little boys running around now terrorising everything!!! Suppose your little ones doin the same now too! hard work innit! I'll probably catch up with you at some of the shows this year as I'm working long hours during the week + got the boy at the weekends. Also a mate of mine opened his own company AD Autotecknik and there pretty close to where I live.

Dude im in love,
Thinking of doing summit very similar to my quattro (engine wise), was just wondering if u could pass on some info?
Basically how much did u spend all in on engine parts? exhaust DP, FMIC and map? (sorry for the rude question)
Thinking of going for a T3 turbo near 340 bhp.

It was a complete kit from backdraft Motorsport the kit costs around 6 grand fitted they got all the info on there site mate

Just a quick update cars booked in next sat 11 June for a helix ceramic paddle clutch single mass flywheel pressure plate and release bearing I'll also have the haldex fluid changed. Before then I'll be doing an oil and oil filter change, redoing my cv boots again but this time with modified jubilee clips! All just in time for GTI International !!!!!
Can't wait to see what I get on the strip this time ???
I predict 12.1
anyone else's predictions welcome I ran 12.9 with a standard clutch but I'm now 140kgs lighter with the new clutch

The winner?!?!?!
I will give you a fiver only in Person though at inters!!

I'm still not sure what to make of those kits on the A3 - I think this works with you having the feeds coming round the front though.

The engine bay looks smart as and seems as though you have put a lot of effort into the car in all. Impressed :)

Only thing I would really change is where the exhaust sits - I would have to get it sat into the rear bumper. Think it would finish it off nicely :)

got my car back on thursday night got a few pics of the work being done at A D Autotechnik (01342 837083) based near crawley just off the A23 they specialise in BT kits loads more and have a couple of track cars on of which is a 550bhp 1.8T quattro A4! there customer service is great danny and simon run the garage and there always helpful with advice for my project

well me and my brother spent 4 hours cleaning my car on sat 25 june ready for inters!! then drove to the petrol station to get some petrol and check my tyre pressure when i started getting a vibration from my nsf, i put it down to that tyre being a little low on pressure as it looked a little low when i was cleaning it! got on the A3 near chessington and it started getting worse i had no place to pull over, i asked my brother to stick his head out the window to check if i had a flat!! he said "your wheels wobbling pull over!!" but before i had a chance my nsf wheel locked up with the almightiest bang!! we came to a stop i wacked my hazzards on and this is what i saw

all but one of my wheel bolts had worked themselves loose so my wheel swung round hit my calliper my calliper smashed a hole through my alloy and snapped from the carrier my disc got smashed and my front wishbone bush!!

all thanks to my mate the vw mechanic who done my cv boot for me as a favour as i was so busy with work who hadnt tightened them up propperly !!
ide done over 200miles since he done the work so when i started gettting a vibration that was the last thing i would have thought it was

i called the police cos i was stuck on the underpass and it was dangerous when they turned up they started badgering me about declaring my mods i tried to explain as i have traders insurance theres no need for me to declare the mods but as they were shut they couldnt call to check, so they decided to give me 3 points for driving a car that is unroadworthy ( cos i said i felt a slight vibration a few minutes before i broke down) what a bunch of ****ers!!!!!

once stripped down

i was gonna do pics of me working on it but i was covering in WD40 and brake dust and didnt want to get it all over my phone ill post some pics soon!!

Damn that's some damage, glad you got it sorted.

I always try to double check any work done by garages or mates just to be on the safe side. Has your mate said anything to you since this happened?

He was gutted and wanted to help pay for the damage when he can. Your right Dave It could have been alot worse if that last bolt had of sheared off !!!

Sorted my NSF bush out yesterday so she's all fixed properly now!! But I'm now getting like a gearbox whine but it's doing it in neutral too it sounds like it's coming from the rear though I think it may be the new wheel bolts there 50mm cos my new 20mm spacers but when I screwed them into the hub after 8 turns there was still over a cm of thread still to go. So could the bolts be rubbing on the inside of the hub?

That's not good, you'll have to get them cut down. You dont want any more wheel related issues!

Easy to find out take a wheel off and have a look for any marks on the hub

I was gonna whip one bolt out and check if there are marks on the end of the bolt. I'm just worried my accident may have damaged my gearbox somehow as my cars stripped out it's hard to locate where exactly its coming from as the sound is amplified!

yowza! all that from loose wheel bolts??

jeez.. unfortunate

Too long a bolt and it pushes onto the ABS reluctor ring, which in turn gets pushed into the ABs sensor, wiping off its end

cheers bill iv only done about 20 miles in it so far so I'll check them tomorrow

Just checked the bolts and there is some wear on one side about 3 threads in so tomorrow I'll get my dremmel out and cut off 4 threads hopefully that will solve it!

Thats a bummer, had one like that but stopped before the wheel came off as was driving slower

Ha ha! that launch was nothing short of epic, nice work...

Is it still on standard internals? i could't see anything on you spec list about it
nope internals on the cards for next summer had the kit on for over 2 years now and i drive her hard done 19 runs at pod on sunday then drove her home!

That's dam good goin (and possibly a bit brave)! I'd never thought you'd see that sort of power on standard internals, well, not for long anyway. but you could maybe even go as far as callin this reliable as well!? Makes me wonder why everyone doesn't just slap a tonk turbo on and see what happens. . . inspiration me thinks! Anyone got a spare t28 knockin about?

Lol I know alot of it is scaremongering but I will need to do the internals if I want more power which I do gonna 2 litre stroker it next

nice job Don, keep up the good work. Hope that gearbox holds up with them launche's. : )

I finally worked out where the whining was coming from when my wheel came loose it shagged my gearbox too so total cost of repair was £1300!!! Ouch!!

And how much of that has your mate paid for?

I like your car a lot Don, I think it's awesome. Very jealous of your man turbo compared to my kids turbo on steriods :p

However, I can't help thinking there are several areas that could be VERY easily and cheapy improved, that would remove some pretty huge restrictions.

Do I have permission to say what these things are? if not tell me to shut up and I'll go away :p
