Anyone know as I feel a major whinge coming on?

Just booked mine in for its cambelt change and mentioend that the expansion bottle has gone brown since they last serviced it. Their reply? Its a problem with the oil cooler that causes it !!!

My big issue is that there was no reason for the coolant to be touched in anyway, but a mechanic mate, actually he builds indy car engines for Judd Racing so he knows a thing or two, he had a look and said it should be pink and not clear with water like qualities. Water only as a coolant would cause the browness he said, and due to his techincal background, I believe him.

Am I sceptical in thinking that the Audi dealer that serviced my car repalced the D12 with water?

G12 Plus Plus Plus now. :)

My understanding and searching has found that coolant goes brown when you mix different colour coolants together.
Mixing Blue, Green, Pink, Red together will cause it to go brown and also cause it to clump together and generate lumps with in the coolant system.

G12 then, I wrote it down wrong !

Either way its caused, there was no need for the Audi dealership in question to touch the coolant. Not saying who but its by the Blues gound on the dual carriageway.

It all depends on the service level whether they change it or not.
They might do a top up if its low as well.

But to be honest, adding water to a already correctly mixed coolant would not turn it brown, it would just cause the mixture to go lighter and I can't see Audi having any other coolant on site apart from G12+++.

Either way, If all was correct, I can't see why it would go brown since the last service. Unless it was years ago.

Cheers Scotty, I will call them in the morning.

Serviced at the end of March, and the low oil light came on about 600 miles later !

Nope, clear wet type water which has no smell or colour.
It was about 55K service, currently on 66K. Engine runs fine, doesn't use coolant or much oil.

Dude, what are you doing going there anyway??

I have not heard many good things about this site....

Solihull seem to be alot better.

Have you asked to speak to the manager on site, if so how did that go?

They are only three miles away so are convenient. I will call Audi today and see what their response is.

Let us know how you get on mate....

Ok, update. Apparently it is the oil cooler and hose, which they are replacing as a courtesy :salute:
The other issue I had was the aircon, when following other cars you could smell the exhaust fumes, which is bad for my missus as she is asthmatic. The recirc didn't do anything. It went back twice but they couldn't find anything wrong. They have now found the flap motor at fault which, luckily I took out the extended warranty, covers :icon_thumright:

Ok, update, I still don't have my car back. They have replaced the oil cooler and all the coolant and expansion tank as a courtesy, but the air con problem isn't covered by my extended warranty so I have to cough up nearly £400 for it.
The air con problem was pointed out to them while the car was still covered by the original warranty and they have a record of this, but they could not find the fault.

Now, the dilema is this, do I whinge to Audi HQ about the air con problem being chargable despite being an outstanding fault, or do I just wind my neck in and pay up, put it down to experience and keep good relations with the dealer in case I need "courtesy" work carried out in future?

its very cheeky that they would actually try to get away with saying you need to pay for it when you reported the fault within warranty period. the fact that they could not find the fault shows that they didnt know what to look for and so its their fault.
on the other side you have the point about the relationship... yes its important... is it worth enought to let them think they can get away with doing this to you? hmmmmm

Well, the oil cooler work is over £800 and they said to bring it back in 1000 miles and they would reflush the coolant and re fill, plus in the past they have carried out the air con de san free of charge, and gave me a brand new B8 Avant for the day while it was done.

I have 2 email addresses if you need them, certainly claim through audi uk, if you brought it up within warranty, its justified for them to cover without a doubt, dont leave that one for sure.

Yes please, I will contact them.

Update, its got worse.
Got my car back on Wednesday and drove it for the first time on Friday night as I was going to Kent. 31 miles later the low oil light came on so I pulled over and topped it up, angry that they had replaced the oil cooler but didn't bother to check the level. 42 miles later it came on again so I had to pull over and call Audi assist. The oil level was fine so it was determined that the sensor was playing up.
I have called the Audi centre who did the work and they will try and get it in sometime this week.
Not chuffed.

Not good news mate, I would defo get in touch with higher above, as it looks like you are holding back for 'courtesy' and loyalty really, but in some cases being nice isnt always the best way, im much like yourself as would rather just let it be, but when they are not providing you with a decent service and the car is not as it should be, it needs to be dealt with as soon as.
