Hey folks,

Had my car last serviced around Nov/Dec time i think and have just been really lazy and not checked the oil level since....Noticed the car being a bit tappier recently, so kept meaning to check the oil.....Well tonight i finally got my *** in gear and got out there to check the dipstick....well, its on the very very minimum level!! Oooops! :keule:

Im a bit paranoid now that I have wrecked my engine some how? Would I have done any damage to it do you think?? :banghead:

Wouldn't of thought you have wrecked the engine, therer is a warning light that comes on when it's really low and you didn't get this so you must of had some in it.

The 2.0T does like it's oil. You should be checking it every two weeks roughly. Don't be tempted to over fill it as this does as much damage!

agree with above, When the oil level drops to far down and that light comes on iti means game over but seeing as the light hasnt come on you survived.

Make it a regular practice dude! I check mine weekly when i pop out for a cig.

The tappets would have been noisy because of slight lack of oil but changing the oil over will sort it.
 
Phew! Thanks for the advice lads.

So how much oil do you think i will need to top it back up? 2 litres? I wont need to drain it first will i and start fresh?

No 2 litres is too much. It is 1 litre from Min on the dip stick to Max on the stick so 1 litre max to top yours up. Would put in half a litre and check the dip stick after 10 mins or so...
 
yeah you dont want to over fill it dude when i bought my car the monkey who PDI 'ed my car over filled the oil and that resulted in a ****** cat and it was only slightly over the max too that was a costly thing too i think it was something like £500 ish for a new cat at the time they have come down in price now but not by much
 
Mine got low recently and the light came on, i didn't leave it long till I filled up I don't think it's done anything but what could it have Poss done?
 
Had a few a3's petrol and diesel. Told by more than one dealer that it is ok if the orange/yellow light comes on. I think this comes on when oil level reaches the min. I top up with the 1 litre bottle that they give you at the last service. (1 litre is the difference between min and max)

When the red oil light comes on - then worry!
 
yeah 2.0Ts need checking fairly regularly, tho my car's oil thirst seems to have calmed down quite a lot. was using a litre every month at first, now it's using one every 2-3 months.

yeah ive heard that yellow light something is wrong but dont worry too much just get it done soonish red light get it done right now lmfao , my yellow exhaust emissions light has been on for the past few months i turn it off in work then in a few weeks it comes back on so it can stay on now till i get round to sorting it out

Do you know what's causing the light, that would freak me driving around for a few months like that!
 
haha its only a lamba sensor nothing to serious so it can wait lol its even passed an mot with it like that too so its not that bad i should really get it sorted but ive got more important things to buy right now like coilovers and new wheels lmfao

Should be fine you would have noticed it, I may be getting this wrong from my first post but im guessing the audis warn you that its low. Usually on japanese cars if the oil light comes on it usually means pressure has dropped seriously or its running dry thats a large cause for concern. Apologies if i worried anyone with my first post but i just recalled this happened in a friends mercedes and the indicator was a warning message and not an oil pressure light.

My PD140 (05) doesn't seem to, I have it on fixed interval and I don't need to top mine up between services (done it now though haven't I)

Must have been run in nicely by the previous owner.

Dont worry unless the light has come on. Even when the light is on, theres still enough in it to keep it running safely otherwise what would be the point in having a warning light?

TDI's are fine, mine hasnt used a drop in 2 years. Mine must be special :)
 
Yep the 2.0Tfsi engine does drink oil which i noticed only because the engine became louder (tapping). I just topped it up and it was fine, but i do keep an eye on it every 2 weeks or so which i would recommend. You will also notice that your MPG will become slightly lower when this happens.
 
Checked mine about a week ago and it seems but be just above the max. How can I get this down slightly?
 
Sounds like the engine is knackered, world of pain and ruinous expense is just around the corner.
Cut your losses and sell it to me for a grand.:sly:

Not easy to do really, easiest way is with an oil extractor via the dip stick tube.

Other than that you are looking at removing the sump plug to drain a bit off - but you are likely to loose more than you want that way.
