where the chuff is it? read several articles on where it is and they seem to be different. if i'm looking at the engine from the front of the car, is it at the back left pointing diagonally up with the retaining clip facing down? thanks in advance.

its in the same housing as the themostat witch is at the back end of the engine at the top left ish side

Mine was rear of engine just behind fuel filter and on a small bore pipe that went to the fuel filter oddly enough??? Engine AWX with a grey 2 connector temp sensor

hmmm. the new one i got from the dealers is green and has 4 connectors.

Is yours a 6 speed gearbox mate? I had ordered a green one then realised it was 2 wires before i pulled it out. Replacing it hasn't fixed the guage and its either the thermostat or leak problem

no 5speed. was looking for the thermo housing but the one you describe is sat in the middle of a pipe away from the engine?

Maybe mine has the green one too - will look later when I'm trying to locate the leak

ha ok if you stand at the front of the engine lean over it and look down the back you will see it at the top left side mate has the temp sendor and
themostat in it i changed both at the same time made it easer as you can take the housing off to get the themostat out and with it off the sensor is easyer to get at ;-)

I'll have a look at this Simon cos mine was if you are standing at the front of the engine its at the rear right of the block on a pipe directly behind diesel filter

ha ok well its at the back top side any way lol

thats the one thanks. tried a search but got a number of "best ways" to do it. thats ones a good one and i was right in what i was looking at. just need to get that wiring clip of the sensor as mines stuck fast.

I just found this while I was looking for something else:

I changed mine last week - made a huge difference both in power and fuel MPG! All good!

Changed both the thermostat and temp sensor on my 1.9TDi.

Temp sensor is down the back of the engine, towards the left when standing at the front of the car. You will need to removed the boost hose to access it and reach your hand down the back of the engine between the engine and the bulkhead.

Thermostat is on the right hand side of the engine towards the front.
