I AM CONSIDERING SPRAYING THE CHROME BIT ON MY GRILLS MATT BLACK HAS ANY1 DONE THIS ALREADY? WHAT WILL I HAVE TODO? HAS ANY1 GOT ANY PICS OF A SPRAYED GRILLS?

CHEERS JOSH

Hi Josh,

I have seen you can buy an add on surround for the standard grill.
Just struggling to remember where I saw the.... Ahh Stoke Audi - try their website.

What does this add on do?

Is it that crappy ABT grille thing to poorly convert the front end to look like a single grille model?

Yep i see, if the original poster's car is an 8P1 then i assume he has the twin grille model so that won't fit.

You've help me though mate because when i do the face lift conversion on mine, i want the black surround, and i wasn't aware you could buy that trim seperate to the grille.

Cheers!

No worries :)

also note FK to a spot on grille : http://www.fk-automotive.de/websale7/

Filter 'Sports Grills' - 'Audi' - 'A3 8P'

The shipping is very cheap, I ordered a gloss black Grill, just waiting for the Twintercooler to arrive before I fit it :rockwoot:

Ive altered my front grills and painted over the chrome on the bottom so it looks a single big grill until I can do the mod to convert it properly. I rubbed the chrome down and used some satin black spray paint from Halfords, worked really well too.

is it staying on okay Sarah has it stone chipped was gonna try and wrap mine but i no i would end up wrapping myself to the car lol

No its just as good, no chipping etc. Might be worth a try first, its a cheap option til I can do the bumpers. I'm struggling finding a front bumper (think loads on here are after them too lol). I was worried it may look a bit chavy but for what it is and hopefully the time it will be like that, should be ok. I like the fact the black on the chrome and bumper is satin.

i sprayed the chrome surround on my 8P3. i took the chrome surround off the grille, gave a good rub down, prime and th satin black finish. 5 months in, its very stoned chipped and has peeled in one area.
its in the paint shop next week for a bumper repair/spray. so having the whole grille paint, gloss black. unsure to paint the rings matt black. what you guys think?

i painted mine in work i used satin black paint and used clear over the top of it so far so good its been like that for well over a year and a half now and only had one stone chip so im happy with it both painting and wrapping are good ways to do it

must a been the poor prep-work by me. anyway going to have the grille but in black gloss, seen a s-line A1 with an oem black gloss grille and it looked top dollar!!! but unsure about putting the rings in black??

i think they look good in black but they do kind of look like they have been nicked of your car to be fair lol

good call, didn't think off that, think i will opt for gloss black grille and chrome rings  might try post a pic once its painted

will do, having the grille and surround in gloss paint

Looks real good!!

How hard was it to take the grill surround off? Did you do it with the bumper still on the car?

I think they were a limited edition VW wheel - SSX?!? trying to remember from the advert

Right I've done my front end with matt black vinyl yesterday on the chrome parts and space between the grills. I have to say it does look good but do not attempt to do this mod at less than 10degrees as I did yesterday. The vinyl was quite rigid at this temp and I split it on my first 2 attempts. I'll get some pics up tomorrow as it was dark when I refitted the grills last night.

I was thinking about buying one of the grille surrounds. 60 odd quid i think. This option of vinyl seems alot cheeper lol! Is it easy to remove grille surround? And what about spraying the badge? What sort of spray is best to use?
