2.0 TFSI drinking fuel

Recently bought a 2.0 TFSI, and noticed that it seems to use way more fuel than I expected.
The quoted figures for a combined cycle vary from about 35mpg to 39.8mpg, and I'm getting 26mpg...
Admittedly, the car does do some shorter journeys of about 8 miles a time, but even factoring that in I was expecting at least 32mpg. And I'm not exactly thrashing it.
Anyone got an idea as to why it's so poor?
And is it worth taking to an Audi dealers, or do you reckon re-mapping is the way to go?

I think most people will tell you that they are well known suckers of juice. Also never believe manufacture quoted figures of any car, any engine ever! Those figures are achieved in pefect conditions in a lab.

I also drive a 2.0TFSI, however mine is Revo stage 1 mapped, but even prior to that being done it was a fuel sucker! If i average 26mpg i feel im doing well nowadays!

Ouch. My Dad's Cayman S gets about 26 to the gallon.
When I first got the car, I looked into chipping/re-mapping, and noticed that some companies were offering an 'economy' tune that delivered a little more horsepower too. Worth a go?

I wouldn't be too unhappy with that. Even using the worst quoted figure, I would be getting about 30mpg.
Perhaps I'm just being a little lead-footed.

This calculation has been proven with my 3 previous cars.

Spooky as that is the same calculation I use as well and it worked for my previous 2 cars.
The S3 was doing about 26 to 27mpg (so slightly under the calculation) but it seems to be getting slightly better, assume the engine is run in now as I have recently been getting 28 to 29.5mpg. I am hoiping a remap may help improve it a little as well.

I would have thought the 2.0TFSi should get better mpg than my S3 so I would assume you should get at least 30.

that sounds quite low for a standard 2.0T i get a little more then that in my S3 and im not always the most cautious of drivers!!

The car has done 45k, so it's not exactly fresh out of the box. It has crossed my mind that the previous owner may have fiddled with it a little, as the car does seem to have pretty smooth power delivery and it is quick.

my s3 drinks fuel at around 22mpg .......... not cheap i filled up with v power yesterday and it was £1.32 a litre

I'm sitting in my 2.0T now and the DIS is quoting an average mpg of 19.2!!! Have been driving a bit swiftly today though. Living in London doesn't help either.

I'm on course for a 290 mile tank at the moment, which works out to 23/24mpg since my last fill up.

I would say your expectation of 32mpg was a bit hopeful, unless you're doing a lot of cruising/motorway driving.

****** nora!!! my 8L S3 does roughly 150 miles on £35 (i try and budget weekly otherwise i'll end up on far too many spirited drives )..... if my maths are correct, that's some difference!!

Think i'll be upping that 'mofo' to £45 a week....

Your right.....it's only slightly out but i was thinking S3, bigger turbo perhaps another cheeky couple of quid.....i do get over 300 miles on a full tank. Interesting to see what both cars hold (if i could be *****)

LPG anyone saw an M3 with LPG the other day, what the hell!!

i'm getting 330mi out of my tank, working out to 27.3 mpg. i was getting a lot less, but that was because my tyre pressures were all wrong lol.

i get around 32mpg from a long run, but in short you're asking a bit much if you want 30mpg out of the car lol, esp on short runs. they take quite a while to warm up for one, and mine seems quite low geared so it's always on boost = using more fuel.

for the performace it ain't bad tho. i used to get 440mi out of my 1.6 A3, so a 97% increase in power vs. a 25% decrease in fuel economy is worth it imho

your quattro tank is 5L bigger than ours

Yeah Quattro models have 5L bigger tank than non Quattro models.

My car is averaging 28mpg and thats with mixed driving over about 9 months. I don't thrash it around but it does get the heavy right foot now and again....

When driving of a non motorway run I can get 37mpg and on a motorway run I get around 33mpg. Not bad figures really considering it's a 2.0 Turbo. I get between 350 and 400 miles to a tank depending on when I fill it and what sort of driving has been done.

I had a Rover 620Ti years ago and could only get 280 miles tops out of a tank...

this day and age, with the price of fuel and just general road conditions, you hardly ever use all that power, so i think its better to just cruise along

thats all i do nowadays mate and i get an average of around 45-50 mpg from my 1.6fsi

I had a A3 2.0T Quattro off Audi as a loan car for a spell and after a few days i returned it to them with an average of 26 MPG on the DIS so sounds like they are all similar.

I live in a city centre and do a few local trips around town per week. I never see above 22-25mpg on the DIS, although on longer runs it has no problem averaging 35mpg and 40+ if I'm tailgating lorries at 55mph!

I think the problem is urban driving - none of my cars (diesels included) have ever done more than 60% of the average MPG around town.
