Decided to do an economy drive in my 2.0 T,and was surprised by the results. My old B5 1.8T did 32 mpg so I saw this as the figure to beat with a newer more efficient engine. Followed the advice of changing up at 3000 rpm,windows closed and tailgating cars for added aerodynamic effect,not letting revs drop below 2000 out of the torque zone. So imagine my horror when I clocked 26.8 mpg a reduction from the usual 30 mpg. I am truly baffled.

Changing gear at 3,000 rpm is probably why your fuel consumption was so high.
The turbo was spooling and hence drinking MORE fuel. You should try and change at around 2,200rpm.
Also check your tyre pressures. It should be easy to beat if gear changes are done at the right time and you accelerate easily.
I think i read somewhere if you accelerate at a speed in which it takes you around 15 seconds to get to 60, then thats bang on good economy.
Good luck and try again! Dont forget, cars drink more in cold weather (cold engines)

i drive mine quite hard and my trip computer shows an average of 30 - 34mpg depending on how hard i drive it and i also reset it after each fuel up occasionally it goes to 28mpg but thas wen im embaresing type r's lol 
and other things tha think all A4's are diesels lol 
and other things tha think all A4's are diesels lol latest figure 27.2 mpg,no better than the considerably faster/more powerful focus I had last,this car excels in blandness to a new degree, I am truly disappointed with it not to mention the remap which was a complete waste of time,may be looking to change soon,BMW,Merc or even a chavvy Impreza.
latest figure 24.3 mpg on 98 super unleaded,pretty pathetic may have to look at getting s3 or bmw for real performance.

So do you want economy or performance?
Clearly their is something not right with those figures as even in my 3.0 Litre TDi i get better MPG than that driving like Nigel Mansell
Had mine serviced last week at VAGTECH, the difference with an oil change always shocks me!
I want a bit of both Daz that is what my 1.8t gave 145mph 0-60 6.9 secs and 32mpg overall (40+ on motorway)
normally use standard 95 but am trying the higher octane stuff not to any success,perhaps the diverter valve is faulty but i had it serviced and no fault codes etc,cant really tell about boost as the tight gits at audi never fit gauges.

you mention your remap was a waste of time ?
who did it ?
if it was your DV MAF causeing the low mpg if would show its self
i know of remappers that dont do a very good job and can kill your mpg

Those figures are awful, especially if its a FWD car, unless its all city driving i guess. Our B5 1.8T quattro manages around 30 on a motorway run, but drops to 24-26 when driven around town.
I find that keeping the revs low doesnt really save any fuel, as you tend to need to open the throttle much more as the engines off boost (and its less efficient when off boost due to the cams and compression ratio)
Light throttle over a normal rev range seems to produce better results.
