hi guys this might have been coverd previously

but was wondering does the r8 oil cap need ne modding before fitting??

i bought one 2day at adi as i seen a few on a4 b7's

and couldnt go to my first show as an audi driver without buying anything lol

saw them for £23 from stoke audi stand is that where you got it from?

From what I have read is that it is a direct fit, but it will not sit straight, apparently it is possible to adjust the position that it sits, but I was un-able to find out exactly how.

Found them on Awesome GTI, I think they are little more expensive than oher places but it does say that they are already modified:

Awesome > Genuine Audi R8 Oil Cap

Still not sure what the modification is though, I think it is somethign to do with it not sitting straight or something.......

id like to know also.. havent tried yet but bought one from the stoke audi stand at ADI.. ...

Looking good Darren, all you need to do now is drop the car off at PRD for us to do the magic on the engine bay (mate's rate's of course)..

ahhhhh ive tried to put mine on and its sideways....guessing the a4 engine bay is different to the a3?...anyone know how to mod it to sit correctly?..

Hey, it looks fairly good, folowing on from our conversation it could do with a slight adjustment - the cap can be carefully split into two - and then popped back together slightly out of align to give you the desired finish - I will dig mine out and part it and take some photos tomorrow and pop them on here as a bit of a "how to guide"!!

Cheers for that mate.. appreciate that... mine is sitting 90 degrees the wrong way haha..

Cheers guys!

I've dug mine out and reminded myself how I did it!

Basically turn the cap upside down. There is a very small line running around it (maybe hald a mm or so). You will need to carefully prise this open - I used a flat head screw-driver and did leave some little marks, but once on the car they can not be seen. Prise it open all the way round and then the cap will split into two pieces.

This is where you brain will start to heat up!! There are a number of plastic bits that stick out which ensure you the unit will only click back together one way - basically you will have to figure out at what angle you need to click it together to get the fitting you want then cut some new little gaps for the plastic bit to sit flush in (ignore how I'm saying this, it's obvious when you get the unit open!!!) I used a pair of clipper to cut a few new little gaps and hey presto all done - the unit is simply clicked backed together and job done!

I've took some photos to cover what I've said - when you do this it is pretty simple but it did take me some time to figure out how to open the unit up.

When you lining it on the the oil hole in the block to get the finish you want make sure you cover the hole when not using it to stop muck, dust etc getting in there.
