Oil Catch Can mini group buy anyone? including PCV system simplification.

na sorry mate, go and have a look for my last 2 or 3 threads in stoke audi section, they are defo in there with prices
 
no worries doood, id go searching for ya but my works browser wont let me search or view anything but the S3 section

best bet is asking Stoke, with postage they are still wey cheaper than the local main dealers and GSF/Euro
 
Just picked one up from Hatfield Audi for £24.03!!!!!!!!! As they had it in stock and I want it sorted ASAP I thought what the hell.

Anyway the part number is 06A 129 101 D and it is called a "Pressure Relief Valve" on ETKA
 
Sorry for the slow reply. Yeh, hockey puck was a b**ch to fit into the TIP. Had to file down the raised lip before it would even go into the hole, plus a bit of lube. Even then it kept wanting to pop out which is why I had to jubilee it in. Sorry, thought I'd mentioned this when writing the guide :redface:.

Would imagine the fault codes are caused by what you said. I had a couple come up when I originally removed the PCV pipework as I removed the inlet manifold and sensors to do it. Where did you mount yours in the end?

I mounted my can in the exact same place as yours and followed your guide to the letter so thatnks again for that.

I tried for around 45 mins to get that puck into the tip! I filed down the lip then ended up actually hacksawing the end off because I'd made it too rough with the filing and it was damaging the silicone. I had to trim off the damaged piece of silicone from the TIP and couldn't afford any more mistakes or i'd have to buy another TIP!!!

Anyway my 19mm to 16mm reducer should turn up today and i'll try and get it fitted tonight with my new puck valve, I think this will be sorted then and it might be worth a mention in your guide for anyone else doing this as it nearly reduced me to tears :(

Do you think that it will cause any problems with the puck valve sitting on a few mm reduction on the breather system?

I would imagine you'll be fine. I've read of other people doing this with 19/16mm reducers on the catch cans because they couldn't get a can with 19mm connections, and they seem to have no problems.
 
Well the reducer turned up last night and I cant get it to fit into our new 19mm oil hose! :banghead:

I'm now going to have to try and file/dremmel the lips on the reducer down to get it to fit inside the hose. The 16mm end is spot on though and fits snuggly inside the oil hose so I expect it to slide into the TIP with no trouble.
 
Ok got the reducer to fit in the end. Took tip all the way off then used a bowl of boiling water to soak the pipe so it was soft enough to get the reducer in. The airbox was a bit of a squeeze to get back in but it's all sorted now.
 
Hey guys, just read through this as i think i'm gonna install a catch tank and delete the VAC as mine are failing

I was wondering how it's working out for those who did the install and if they have had any problems after installing/deleting

Installed mine about a year ago and it's running fine, although i reused some of the original rubber hoses and they ended up failing and causing me some right headaches.
 
As OllieH orginally said 19mm inlet tanks aren't easy to find in the UK, having spent a few hours looking i agree!!

So looks like i'm gonna get one from the US, is there anyone else who is interested in doing this? i could order a few and save on the shipping?

Would be just the tanks as the other bits are easy to find over here and Ollie has done all the hard working

cool, i emailed saikou michi last night for a price of 3 delivered so we'll see what they can do, sadly the price shown on the website has gone up $10 since the first group buy

The BSH ones have a dip stick so you can check the level, and lots have a clear tube on the side, but importantly we need 19mm ports.

That hosequip kit on ebay should have the correct parts we'd need
 
Well im running a toyosport one and it has a clear tube on the side to see what the level of oil etc is at. The toyosport one also has 16mm outlets but what i did was use some 16mm tubing to sleave the outlets then just attached 19mm other the top of that.

Be interesting to see what price the saikou will be.
 
yeah count me in on this, i can 100% vouch for the quality after having one for the A3 on Ollie's GB....still empty after few months fitting.... still got the hoses left over too, enough to do mine ;)
 
Not many black catch cans with 19mm inlets/outlets, most are alloy/chrome or shiny colours :-(

I like the look of the Saikou Michi and the stealth 42 draft design, the quick drain plug on the 42 stealth would make emptying nice and easy compared to the Saikou Michi.
 
yeah i think the Saikou Michi and the stealth 42 draft design seem the best, i actually prefer the Stealth 42 one, because of the 'stealther' looks, side ports and crackle finish to match S3 engine covers etc. But that said the Michi is tried and tested on here so that is of course good!!

I'll post up the replies from suppliers when i get them, wanna get them ordered in the next couple of days.

ok Design Draft have come in with roughly £75 each with 3 units delivered to me (roughly as excahnges rate vary etc..) so a bit more than the Michi's before, but haven't heard back from them yet.

If Michi says £60 each then i'd say we should go with their 951, but if they are about the same i think the Design draft is a better design for a 'oem' look.

Either way should be a liitle cheaper than the BSH's off ebay, say about £110 all in with pipes, angles, clips etc...

Thanks Westle for the feedback, the DD42 Stealth one comes with a side plug which you can fit a tap and pipe to, so you could run the pipe to somewhere easy to access
 
I think you'll find the Saikoumichi's will be about the same price as the Design Draft ones. The only reason I got the Saikou's so cheap last time was because I kept emailing them back with more numbers on the group buy, and kept knocking them down. Either way, its definately worth getting.

I like these ones better as the drain plug is on the side so its easy to get to, and as said can buy/fit a tap too, with a drain pipe installed somewhere nice and accessable for easy emptying!

S3tle appreciate the hard work, dont know if its worth asking for a quote on the quick drain plug for the DD42 if going that route?
 
Thanks Ollie, yep i don't think there be much difference, thanks for this thread in the first place!!

@Thorsy22, i also think the DD42 are better!! just the quick drain plug should be £5.20, and the drain plug kit would be £8.20, i think it would still be best to get any other piping from the UK as it heavy to post? although it i cheaper from them, etc...

Hopefully the other suppliers will reply soon so we can check there aren't any bargains to be had!!
 
So approx £80 for can and the quick drain plug if going DD42 route.

Think would be better to get the drain hose from over here. Found some on the bay for £3.20 a metre delivered Oil return hose 3/8" 10mm R6 hot oil hose on eBay (end time 28-Aug-10 13:14:00 BST)
£20 quid for the 19mm hose and connections from the bay (see previous post), reckon £105-£110 like S3tle said earlier. Not too bad at all really.

Edit: the 19mm kit is £27 delivered, forgot the delivery cost :blush:

Mr Saikou has replied this morning, so using paypal for conversion, as that's how'd we'd pay

Three Saikou Michi 951's delivered to me would be $300 = £199.91 so £66.64 each

Three DD42 Stealth's to me would be $357.27 = £238.07 so £79.36 each + quick drain plug if we want one -- bit more than i had originally thought as i had't used paypals exchange rate :-(

So what do you think?

another consideration is import duty.... i don't think OllieH got charged any for the original batch of 951's, not sure if a order from DD42 would be flagged up as they are 'more' of a company, invoicing with package etc...

ok just scanned through the thread, Ollie got charged £15 duty on the first batch, which actually seems quite low, i'd guess there wasn't an invoice in the package so customs estimated the value.

Duty rate is 4.5%. Vat rate is 17.5% dependant on amount you have to pay both.

i've put the figures into a online calulator to see what we might have to pay

for the Saikou Michi, basically an extra £34 total for VAT if customs value correctly
Import duty rate for oil tank is 4.5%

For DD42, we'd pay both VAT and Import duy total £55
Import duty rate for oil tank is 4.5%

Based on that i'm thinking the Saikou Michi ones might be safer! and i'll ask Mr Saikou to not put any invoice in the package!!
 
saikou michi is best case £66 worst £77!!
DD42 best case £79 worst £97!!

It tricky because OllieH can't of got charged the correct customs, but i guess customs didn't value some metal cans at £66 each!!

I think we should go with saikou michi and remove any invoicing etc!! if there are more than 3 we should also get a slighly better deal

i agree but only because i think the Saikou will be easier to fit due to the supplied bracket....... the other does look well, worth noting though that you will scratch the can whilst installing as the A3 was tight, the S3 is simply daft depending on where you put it....i found myself using a tin of satin black on the can once installed to neaten it up
 
so i'm guessing those prices have put people off!! just wanted to illustrate the worst case!!
I'm not really fussed as to which one, or indeed if i just get one for myself so if anyone is interested in either pm me

(Would prefer the DD42 but if its going to be almost £100 then its going to be that bit too expensive when compared to the Saikou Michi in my opinion.)
 
Im in but dont want to spend daft money thats all, i just want a catch can thats neat and will actauly offer a baffle/filter to stop oil and water vapour back into the inlet whcih my toyosport one is doing.
