HELP! Just driving home from work when my drivers side seat bolster air bag just went off! I was only going 20mph ish slowing down coming up to red traffic lights and bang! Bit shook up but driven it back to work. air bag light on so put the code reader on it.

01217- side airbag igniter, drivers side-N199
01221- CRASH SENS. SIDE ARBAG DRIV. SIDE-G179
01217- SIDE AIRBAG IGNITER, DRIVERS SIDE-N199

Has anyone had this before or had the codes before?

Lucky I wasnt on the motorway or driving fast. Just got away with a bit of a burnt arm. :sadlike:

crumbs not heard of this before! Hope you're ok?? Scary when you're not expecting it! Hope ure ok!

cheers, anyone know rough prices of air bags and crash sensors? i might have a look at refitting and someone to stitch my seat back up.
its made a bit of a mess! :(

but of course i have to find out why it happened first. will have a look this week when i got spare time, but too scared to drive it incase another one blows!

I've only ever heard of another case of this happening on here. The driver was driving his S3 and hit a pothole in the road hard which fired off the passenger seat airbag. That was some time ago though....

Whoa, thats quite scary!!!

Glad to hear you are ok, was just going to say, you havent had any bumps or anything that could have caused a delayed reaction??

Maybe worth getting in touch with Audi and see what they have to say about it, supposed to be a safety measure, more like the total opposite in your case.

Surely Audi should sort this out for you?

that is nuts! the chances of that happening must be sooo sooo tiny. Id be getting straight onto audi, airbags going off with no collision or bump is scandelous.

get some pics up so we can have a laugh :meeting:

right, inspected wiring. see so much melted wires under seat, as well as chaffing wires on the side of the seat. these wires go to the crash sensor under the seat. havent had an in depth look but have found a good reason for the fault. I will inspect more and take photos and put them on tomorrow. I also found chaffed wires right next to the air bag but unsure if that happened when it was deployed.

I seem to remember reading that audi recommend having your airbags inspected after ten years. not 100% sure on that though. Just letting you know, if you go to them claiming dangerous fault they may throw that as a get out of jail card.

here are some pics of the chaffing wires I found. where some some have got hot too and melted together.

still cant believe a light didnt come up. ordered an airbag, crash sensor and cover from ebay. not turning out as expensive as i thought.

anyone know if i have to program this bag in with vag com. I know i can delete the codes with my universal machine but dont know if i have to program it.

how much and where you get the air bag from? mine got bumped and set the passenger seat airbag off. is it a case of new air bag then turning the light out or do i have to replace the airbag ecu??
