hi all new to this site and new to the lovely drive of an audi but having afew problems that i hope someone can help me with.
i drive an audi a4 estate 02 plate 2.4 diesel v6
to start off today the key fob battery ran out so i replaced it after setting alarm off ect and having to enter manualy now changed the battery and all was good well untill i noticed my red battery light is on on my dash noew im not hundred percent sure whever it was on before all the key fob mider but ive only noticed it after this has any one any ideas? ive hooked up a code reader and to some wierd reason theres no code??

problem two is ive noticed my fuel consumpsun has gone through the roof i drove back to southport from down south the other week and used just over 30 pound i thoght this was ace now for the past few days im having to put 20pound a day in for doing nowere near that journey now iknow town start stop driving doesent help this but imean come on i look at the on bored meter thing and whatch it drop in 5's rapidly i mean every time i clance its dropped in 5 what the hell??
can anyone shed some light on these problems for me please as i love my car and am chuffed to bits ive got rid of the old jap turbo nightmare but atleast i knew where i stood when it come to getting out the tools lol
many thanks jay

can anyone shed any light on here could realy do with it?
noted today the light had gone butcame back on when i put my foot down and gave it some but its now gone off again this is getting strange surely something cnt just brake then work when it wants?

just a guess but try getting your alternator checked, some places will do it for free.

as for your mpg problem, have you tryed checking all the air ducting for leaks in the car?

right went out in the car today and noticed what i tought was brake squel but it wasnt when i breaked and brakes all seem fine so now am wondering if the light is connected to the squek maybe a belt slipping because the tensioner goosed or something like that resulting in the alternator not working properly? what do you think also thanks for advice had alook today at the air pipes and noticed my airbox wasnt on properly so gave it a wiggle and a mess round and seems to be connected properly now will see how the fuel problem goes well thats if a fix battery light lol

just had a little look in the ram packed engine bay lol and looks like frount ends gunna have to come off to get to the part to see whats going on it does look like theres some sort of fluid leak in the same area so maybe its dripped on belt causing the slip so looks like ill have to adress that problem to this aint my week at all lol well head up because b7 frount end going on in the next 2 weeks so that will cheer me up plus frount end gotta come off then anyway so ill fix the bits then just have to hold back on using car :(

its hard to say what the squeak could be without hearing it, could be the belts slipping but belts slipping is more like a squeal if that makes sense, check your power steering level, as it could be the power steering thats leaking and causing the noise

yeh will do thanks will keep you posted its damb hard compared to the jap stuff you jus get the spanners out and off you go the audi is like a women when its that time again techy as hell lol

tell me about it, used to have an almera (turbo conversion GTIR and van conversion) and could do everything on it no problems, the audi is just a pain, even to do the simple things

ha its just crazy i mean you cant dis audi for having the cars bang on to drive but when it comes to a problem theyve thought ahead and made it the most annoying pain in the rear to fix hopefully resulting in you taking it to an aproved audi dealer lol gunna take it all apart tommoz worst case is new alternator and belt kit battery should be ok ill get it on the charger as now it doesnt even start oilc leak hopefully wont be something that abit of sealer/new gasket/little tweek will fix and as for the squek hope it isnt breaks and its to do with alternator otherwise new disks and pads the parts shops gonna love me lol

cheaked power steering all seems ok fluids are fine oil leak i thinkin as it looks like but cant see where from as of yet tommorow is the day of reckoning looks like its take apart time just to put back togeher till the rest of my new frount end arrives what a bumer not having two cars anymore

Have you thought about doing the cam-belt and all the rest of the pieces while you a re in there doing the front end? Just a thought cause it would be a shame if you have to open the front up again

wel frount end off now and alls i can say is how luky i am the thick belt to the left if your looking frount on has been chewed to hell and as a result theres only half the thickness left if that would of gone i would of being in a world of poo also the oils leaking from the bottom left hand side near the alternator ive not managed to find out where though as of yet but its defo from there as its all on my alternator and the engine houseing behind that o yeh and in pully casing pullys and belt which spat it all over the place lol so all belts and tensioners and whatever else are getting done along with a major service that way iknow it will be ok when its back togeher my b7 parts started turning up today so going to just plod on with this nightmare at a steady pase then put all my new frount end on so hopefully be done for the next week no point putting old frount end back on to pull it all of again in a couple of days lol anyone got a clue what could be leaking round that area as i realy cant see anything ill update with pics when i get chance but at the min not had a chance thanks for all input

anyone know of anywhere i can get info on the 2.4 v6 tdi diesel engine as i cant find any anywhere ive found it for the 3l and haynes dont do a manuel for that engine and now im stuck lol

sorry it is a 2.5 yes my bad step by step timing belt removel and instalation if possible ive done 2 before but never on a car like this so im compitent if i had something to relate to also any torque settings ect if possible. many thanks

also does anyone know if the hydrolic tensioner next to cambelt pully could be causing my leak?

I can't help you too much I'm afraid, but try picking up a copy of "Elsawin" off ebay as all the settings etc are in there.

i just done my t belt and w pump and i all so have a oil leak in the same area, thought it was rocker cover gasket but not sure, when doing the belt just make sure you lock everything injector pump, both cam pullies, and crank shaft.

yeh its a weird one isnt it the only thing i can put it down to is the hydrolic tensioner or my sump but as i cant se it coming out the side off my sump onto there a\am going to go with the tensioner i know its goin to be dear but i think im goin to replace that hopefully solving problem have you a guide for how you did yours as i cant find one anywhere??

no mate dont have any guide i can show you.ill try explain,to lock injector pump there is 2 holes on the pully big one and small one turn engine by hand till small hole is at top then you can put a 9mm drill bit through and into the pump to lock the pully, once thats locked the crank is in the right position there is a bolt on the bottom right of the block that you have to undo and there will be a hole in the crank shaft,i got another bolt the same diameter but longer and threaded it back into the hole up against the crank shaft to lock that ..........and cam shafts i used a flat bar about 50mm x3mm and long enough to reach both pullies drill 2 holes either end of the bar take out the bolts holding the pullies on fit the flat bar on front of both pullies and put bolts back in and tighten the up.hope that helps

this is where the leak is anyone got a clue as ive said my guess is either the sump or hydrolic pully as theres traces midways up the frount of the block right next to the thing but not took cover off yet to look its gathering in this area tho very fresh to

also has anyone got a list of parts theyed reckomend as im realy not into doing all this again anytime soon and by looking at how my belt ended up dont think id be this lucky as to catch it in time twice lol

By rough translation does that mean you want somewhere for parts? TPS? GFS?

anyone may have or a clueas where i can get some sort of manueal would also be apraiceted thanks

As I said below, Elsawin available off ebay. Its what the dealers use.

thanks for that yeh need some parts lol anyone who has done this before know what they ended up paying or what a decent price is without being ripped off thanks

The hydraulic tesioner is a sealed unit isnt it?
My money is on the front crank seal leaking tbh, once you have everything locked and located and belts / covers off it will be easier to see and the by removing the toothed pulley access will be granted

k so ordered most parts got a cambelt kit, sump gaket sealent, all exilery belts, thermostat, water pump, oil and oil filter iknow ill need afew more bits but that will get me going for the time being all from gfs ive never used them before and for everything there they gave me 247.28 all in what a craking price and they where the most hepful guys ive had from a part store quite alot of stores are full of arogent muppets who think they know it all and dont want to help lol thanks for the rekomendation

ive had a look round today and it looks like this is where the oils coming from anyone got a clue?

was looking at mine today i cant see that hole because front is on the car but that seems to be exactly where mine is leaking from as well

well when i had a good look around the area i sin this hole and thought what the hell belongs there or maybe its not ment to be that far out of where it goes to be honest i havent a clue what it is and hope someone on here can shed some light on it for me

Have you got any more pictures? I find it hard to get a perspective on that one.

thats where the bolt with the hole is on the other pics theres oil all over alternator the top of my sump all the pully casing and its coming from the area with the dot which as i say is where the earlyer pics i took closeup of that wiered hole any help on wtf this is is greatly apprceiated
