    1.9 tdi power gains

Ok so im new here, currently looking at buying an a3. Bein only 18 i can only afford the 1.9 for insurance reasons. Say if i was to get a panel filter and a remap, what sort of gains would i be expecting, i understand that the standard 1.9 is around 100 bhp?

Would you suggest any other reasonable priced performance mods that should see an increase in bhp?

    Thanks, Tom

The insurance on a mapped 1.9 will doubtless be more expensive than a 2.0.

I'm 19 now too but I got mine when i were 18...2.0 TDI.

With remap, it'll prob be around 140bhp.

TBH, the diff between a 2.0 TDI and 1.9 TDI was 120ish for me....

I've just declard the wheels up to now :D Although the S3 brakes are on so I'm going to declare them when payday comes (5days)

The remaps not on the car yet so its not declared - but i get 2 years driving experiance in Feb so I'm going to change to a diff company then declare it.

I think I'm paying round 1650ish with mods with ecar... To declare the remap is a bomb (320 iirc).

Cant believe your insurance is so cheap (compared to mine anyway)

You lot are gonna shout at me now but for a 1.9 its 1700 tpft , fully comp its around 2500..

For the 2.0tdi its 3200................tpft, i was shocked to say the least, darent look at fully comp.

Both were cheapest with Quinn Direct, but they allow all exterior mods for no extra cost so i suppose thats ok..

Why is my insurance so high? ive been drivin a year, no crashes, no points nothin, 1 years no claims, its rubbish.

I'm afraid it's a cruel fact of life (possibly one that you can blame on your Nova/Corsa driving brothers) that you need to keep your nose clean and wait a little before trying to insure a mod'd car.

Tommy try direct line, from my experience with them they are fairly cheap for younger drivers however they don't like modifications until your 25, i stayed with them just to build up cheap no claims until i have enough to get cheap insurance with mods else where
i will need to hunt around soon for my renewal.

    good luck mate

Im 31. Insurance has gone bonkers over recent years. I had an Impreza Turbo and an Accord Type-R before the A3, and was still only paying 650. Insurance companys take the piss IMO. i think you should get a partial refund on your premiums if you stay claim free each year, especially when paying in the thousands.

Definitely young age and being male would push premium right up.

Don't know what your situation is but have you thought about someone else being insured - mother, brother, sister?? -as main driver and adding yourself as extra named driver?? Not ideal but would save money in short term til you're out of the ultra high risk age range for insurers?

however people say you should add your mother blah blah blah

when i added my mum on my direct line it went from 1600 to 2000 and she has a perfect reccord no crash been driving for about 35 years and her insurance costs about 150 a yeard on a 3.1 turbo diesel isuzu trooper

Insurance has goen mad - when my unc was 19 (10 years ago) - he had a classic WRX STI and was paying 1000.

I've got an ATR as well but the cambelt snapped on it - it currently needs an engine rebuild tahtI'll be atempting this year :D I'm on my uncs trade policy so i can drive that but trade insurers dont really pay out when you have a bump so dont want to take the risk on the A3 as it took me age to save up and buy it !

I was 19 when I got my A3 2.0FSI, first policy in my own name and it was just over 1000 with elephant. I am now 21 and have declared my wheels and pay just over 700. all I can say is I would highly recommend putting other people with clean records onto your policy, by adding my mum and my sister I saved about 500!

Youd be better off sourcing a complete engine, if it needs a bottom end, it will cost you more to repair than replace. If its just valve and top end damage, my mate has a spare cylinder head complete.

Like everyone else said, better off getting the 2.0 TDi rather than the 1.9 TDi.

I just recently turned 20 but got my 2.0 TDi Sport 140 when I was 19 with 2 years no claims for the price of just slightly over 1300 with Churchill, I was hoping to get a free dog with it, but didn't

I need to get a cambelt and get it compression tested...

I think i may be lucky but i have been looking for an engine I know but the H22A7 is rare! lol

Where abouts are you from? I might need the head off your mate?

    Thought of another option:

Without sounding too much like an advert - try Admiral, can get good discounts if you go with Multicar insurance, depends on if there's other family members who you stay with and their motors coming up for renewal but worth looking at?

Probably don't want to hear it but I pay 280 for 2.0 TDI fully comp with wife's car covered for about the same. Cheaper insurance - the one upside of getting old!

Dont Worry tommy my insurance aint all that. Was 980 for a year but had to two claims last year on my mum name. When some one hit my corsa (parked up) and drove off and when i went over a pothole which put a lovely dent into my traction arm. And audi said 2,000 some thign worth of damge to my car (chat s**t) So insurance has gone up now its more a less 130 a month and thats only a 1.6 fsi

Back to the subject of power gains on the 1.9tdi... Bluefin claim a 27bhp increase from the standard 105bhp.

Has anybody had/have experience of the bluefin on a 1.9tdi?
