Had to buy some new engine mounts as there isn't a lot of space between the turbo and bulkhead, if any. Not sure on which ones were ordered, I'm sure Tuffty or Bill will say.

Had a trip to southampton today to get this..

Picked it up off an ASN member through the Classifieds section.

As far as i am aware they don't make double din facia plates for the a3/s3's so I'm left with two choices (that i know of). Either, make my own or buy an a4 facia plate and mod it. This will all be later on in the thread though as there is a long way to go before i put this in.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the adaptor for the Bose system to work, can anyone point me in the right direction??
You have made me fancy one of theses now!! I have found a cheap one on:
    JVC KW-AVX840 DVD Receiver | Overstock.com

Are you going to wire it into the bose speakers or are you going to install new speakers and an amp?

That does seem cheap.. Im not 100% sure what im going to do yet, probably go with an adaptor so i can use the bose stuff (minus the sub) failing that ill just run wires to each of the speakers straight from the headunit.

I wouldn't have fitted it, lets put it that way. It rattled like a maraca.

Maybe we should leave the whole gt2871 convo.. it doesnt really matter now anyway.

Can i ask.. how the hell are you getting 29.7mpg from a 411bhp s3????

Im after a few opinions on a few changes im looking to make..

The car pretty much looks like this at the moment, minus the wheels that are rs4 reps which i bought for the tyres (they will be changed after winter)

The plan is to have a mat/satin black roof with some bbs ch style wheels and maybe some light tints.. what do you guys think about going down this root?

OR should i just put some decent wheels on and leave as it is?

Also, for a comparison basis.. when the car was stage 1/2 i wanted to keep the bay looking OEM but with some slight differences. For example, spanking/fresh with blue silicone.

Then this build started and i bought the inlet manifold and top mounted turbo etc etc, so the OEM look had to go out the window and i ended up with this..

As the car is off the road at the moment the rocker cover and strut bar is off to be stove enamled and the charge pipes are at the anodisers. I have put a bit of trust in my mate who is sorting this out for me and 'suprising' me on what colours its going to be. hmmm . There are also a few other changes going on at the moment under the bonnet so i will update as soon as its back together.

There is a battery box in the boot which is bolted to a bracket that is welded to the boot floor. Very secure. Bill done it while the car was at his, ill take a picture next time i see the car.

lee, you know the blue pipe you have on the tbody does'nt need to be there.. those pipes dont go inside, only flow coolant on r32's normally so no need to cap them off.

Bill, i kept getting asked why there were pipes not connected to anything so i just put that pipe there. I was thinking about connecting it to the coolant system? Or is that a silly idea? Superkarl, its going into atmosphere at the moment.. i have a custom made catch can but its a little on the large side so im not sure if ill be using it or not.

dont waste your time connecting them.. not required
they might wiggle out with some heat perhaps if you wanted to removed them. likely a tight push fit

    Just picked the car up from my mates workshop, he had a few bits and bobs to change/fabricate, most of which was just to make future work to the car less hassle;

The heatshield thats behind the turbo on the bulkhead caused a few issues, there wasn't enough of a gap between them to allow a rizla paper through, to the point where the coldside of the turbo had rubbed through the heatshield and was on the sensor for the AC pipework. Now the original bracket for the heatsheild has been modified to allow around 10mm more room.

Changed a union on the turbo as that was rubbing on the heatshield as well.

Modified the cam cover to allow it to be removed without having to remove the turbo.

Modified the bracket for the actuator as you had to dismantle it before to remove it from the turbo.

Moved the fuel filter down slightly to allow for the trim panel to be put back.

Fabricated a bracket so the battery trim can be put on.

On cold starts the car runs a bit funny, Bill pointed me towards the cam sensor or cam chain tensioner, as the tensioner was new i put on a new cam sensor which seemed to help slightly but didn't resolve the issue.

The pipe on the fuel rail had a leak so we had to get a union to go there and use normal fuel line instead of the braided hose, i will have to order the proper bit when i have time.

Other than the above, there was just little niggly bits and bobs that were bugging me!

The powdercoating and anodising has also been put on, although i now need to change all the silicone bits from blue to black for it to match properly..

The strut brace has been done in german colours.. yellow, red and black as has the intercooler pipework.. The cam cover is now gloss black.

I also made a little video of some popping while we was getting it up to 90.

Was wondering if anyone could tell me what size is the pipework that was welded to the intercooler end tanks? and is it the same used on the rest of the setup is it all 60 or 63mm was planning on a similar intercooler setup myself, really dont want to loose the foglights!

Anyway loving your work as usual

    Cheers

if you dont use the rear seats often then go for it. you do notice a difference. I took out the hefty rear seats, sub and spare wheel at it went very well.is this your daily car?

No, its lucky to get used at the weekends really. I use a punto most of the time, although im on the look out for another car to replace this with.

I noticed the difference with weight on a mates mk4 ko4'd golf, they are so much quicker than a awd audi and the only difference is the weight. But, what is there to take off from the s3 if you wanted to go further than rear seats etc?

Keep toying with the idea of stripping mine, just will have to get a daily derv

Could always take aircon off and put some lightweight buckets in it as well as much much more that can be removed

I'm guessing your is quattro so probably good to follow what Dom has done on his big turbo.2 bucket seats, strip everythin out, carpets etc.it won't be as light as a fwd but still makes a difference though

    Less weight is good.

Also, it's rather shocking how civilised it remains with everything removed. I expected mine to become really loud and annoying, but to be honest, it's not THAT much louder inside.

Watch out for condensation inside the roof though, i got so confused the first time it started raining on me inside the car!

I recon i removed perhaps 40kgs from mine without touching anything thats actually visible, nor altering the comfort at all.

AC was broken when i baught the car so i removed the compressor, its bracket, condenser and pipework, as well as all the engine bay wiring from it, ditched the viscous fan and its bearing and removed the foglights as one was corroded thru and the other had all its mounting lugs broken off. I also binned all the random plastic covers in and around the engine bay, and removed some extraneous pipework for the evap system.

I then binned the CD Changer and its huge metal support bracket (this weighed a stupid amount on its own!), the OEM rear speakers and the hopeless OEM amplifier.

A portion of that will go back in when i finally sort out a subwoofer though.
