I think that looks fairly good, not sure about the sticking / glueing the middle piece on. Its a good fix for not having to change your bonnet, wings, grill and bumper to get the facelift front.

    How much?

I had one. TBH it was ****, couldn't get it to line up properly (you have to sand the edges down) & it just looked funny.

Go for single grill conversion instead. You just need the bonnet, bumper & grill (loads on ebay).

Yup, looks how I'd imagined...tidy :o.k: much much better than that fakey thing anyway

Actually that doesn't look far off at all to a facelift grille, as long as you black the surrounds as well

It's better than the horrible ABT thing, costs 50 pence to do, and you don't have to change your bumper, bonnet, etc. Win :o.k:

thanks guys. will take some pics soon and post them.
putting vinyl on the chrome grille-surround was super tricky in the corners. you can see some wrinkles if you look closely.
still - way safer than rubbing it down and spraying it - at least I knew I could just pull the vinyl off if I didn't like the result

when i do the bottom chrome strip, I might redo the top at the same time...

    cheers

how much did it all cost for that conversion? did you get a brand new bumper and bonnet and get it sprayed or was at an ebay jobby?

I really like the look of of that front end, and with the mirrors, how much did the mirrors cost to get done?

    Thanks guys.
I would've preferred to take the grilles off and do it more neatly, but initially didn't want to spend hours and hours on something i might not end up liking.
I want to get a FMIC, so when I do that, I reckon I'll spray the chrome bits black (while the bumper is in bits) and keep the vinyl around the number plate between the grilles.

Did you encounter any difficulties while doing it? Which materials & where did you buy? I really like the looks and might be doing it myself :)

This biggest pain was the corners of the grilles. very difficult to wrap the vinyl round the corners without getting folds. I'd risk saying it's impossible to use one piece of vinyl for each grille, so with that in mind, I reckon it would be best to use one piece per straight side of each grille. Then one or two smaller pieces to do the corners.
Around the number plate it's obviously just one piece. I took my number plate off and let the vinyl overlap the recess for the 'plate.

I got the vinyl from a local hardware shop, and in retrospect, it's not the *best* I could've bought - it's a bit 'stiff' so it tends to fold/crease easily. I'd definitely recommend finding a signage company and buying some good quality outdoor vinyl.

    tips:
I heard someone mention using a heat gun / hairdryer to soften the vinyl in those tight corners. I didn't try this, but definitely think it'd work.
Only remove as much of the backing as necessary - DON'T peel it all off and then try and apply a big peice - you'll get bubbles galore.

Depending on how much time (and patience) you have, I'd recommend taking off the grilles, as there are quite a few really tight areas that are tough to do neatly. but... if you're gonna go that far, you might as well rub them down and spray them :) Dunno if anyone knows about removing the grilles on a pre-facelift but, on the facelift, it's not a quick job:

the red circles show the tricky grille corners. I used separate pieces here.
the blue area is obviously one big piece that I wrapped over the grilles at the red lines shown (I didn't cover behind the number plate - just a bit of overlap)

yea i totally agree with the corners being a pain in the a**. i have recently done mine, i used a hair dryer, the bottom grill was fine, now bubbling or creasing but the top grill was hard, the vinyl at two bottom corners ripped slightly and the two top corners keep peeling off due to the hot weather and now it has lost all its 'stick'
