I'm posting this on behalf of my brother-in-law. He has a 1.8t B6 which has started to make a strange sound recently. We initially thought it was tyre noise, as it was fitted with one odd cheap multidirectional. Replaced this and the noise is still there.
It doesn't happen when revving whilst stationary, only whilst on the move.
Sounds as if it is coming from the left rear of the car?
And it changes according to the speed of the car, i.e. becomes higher pitched at higher speed and lower pitched at lower speeds.
I know its a vague description but we're out of ideas on what it could be so any useful responses would be appreciated.
