Hello, I have had my S3 now for just a week and I am incredibly impressed with it all round.

Just wondering what tips people have for every day living,

for example - how strict do you have to be with warming up/cooling down...
    - turning the engine on and off
    - clutch care
    - any routine engine checks/maintenance

    Thanks,

    Ben....

Also here is a picture from last weekend when I took her out to the Lake District on my birthday...

Maintenance wise it's the usual stuff - watch for uneven tyre wear, let the turbo cool down after "spirited driving" and don't thrash the thing until the oil is up to temp.

Nice to see a good silver S3, always liked them.

make sure you warm it up nicely from cold before giving it any stick. Cooling down is just as important, try and keep it off boost for the last few miles, especially when you have been giving it some stick.

The clutch is a weak part on the S3, particularly when tuned.

    Thanks for your replies!

Im going to avoid hard launches on the clutch or 1st gear abuse. I take it its not wise to ride the clutch at the tops of hills and the likes on an S3 either. Best to put it on the handbrake

Yeah just look after it basically. On a standard or stage 1 car it should be fine.

It's great to see a silver S3, very refreshing! Gets boring seeing Ibis all the time tbh.

Looks great in silver! Glad you're enjoying it and it does indeed make a change from all the Ibis White ones at the moment

Very nice. Like N8 I've been suffering from 'white out'(!) lately so it's nice to see something different.

Great roads for the S3 round you so enjoy.

    Other tips from me:

    • Don't park it in Leeds
    • Change your plugs every 15-20k miles
    • Always have your Haldex oil changed on the nail
    • When you inevitably have to change the clutch don't just buy OEM
    • OEM+ for mods, cutting corners only costs you down the line

Its got 19,000 miles on it atm and I presume the plugs have never been changed. Should I change them?

    Recommended plugs?

What code are the S3 plugs? I might get some NGK iridiums from RS Tuning in Leeds then??

The general consensus is that the OEM plugs are good enough, but some replace theirs with NGK Iridium spark plugs...

NGK PFR7S8EG are the ones I'd recommend. Keep gapped to 0.8 in standard car or gap to 0.7mm in remapped car.

I've stopped using Iridium (NGK BKR7EIX) as I found whilst they were hard tipped (for race application) they don't have a copper core conductor so i found they ran less well once they were old.

The one's I've just removed which were fitted at factory were: Bosch 06H905611 and they also ran fine on remapped car.

I always keep a spare set on hand just in case, but standard car should do 20-30k on a set depending how hard it's driven.

Is there essential power mod that everyone does first? Im not ready map it yet though so not Stage1. Plugs/Intake/Exhaust are all minimal I presume?
