rubber door trims

    Has anybody replaced these because my o/s/f and rear are coming away from the clips and ive been told i need to buy the trims and clips from the dealers, is this right and if so how much am i looking at to buy them?

    I've just replaced mine. They weren't peeling away as such but they were rusting to bits underneath.

    The clips will be ok as they are plastic. The trims are held in at the front of each door by one screw... once thats un done they will either slide back and off of just crumble away. Audi charge me the following;

    Fronts 18.47 +VAT each and rears were £13.68 +VAT each.

    N.B Don't pull the trims away from the door or you'll break the plastic clips. Also when you buy the trims they don't come with either new screws or clips.

    If you are changing the trims then do buy a few spare plastic clips, I did when I replaced my door trims; the old clips didn't seem to want to hold the new door trim on as tightly as I'd have liked, with new fixing clips it wasn't a problem.
    IIRC the clips were only about 30p each anyway..........

    so i just slide the trims towards the rear or do i need to find the screw first before trying to slide them?

    You need to find the screw first and unscrew it otherwise the trims won't slide back. Less chance of you breaking any clips then. The screw head is at the bottom front corner of the doors on the inside.

    Or just lose the rubber trims completely.

    They actually act as moisture traps, and the Red Terror's never too far away then...

    I've been wondering what their purposes are for. But I knew it had something weather related.

    My rubber trims are currently painted. I reckon it looks alright with them on but my NSF trim is beginning to come away from the door. It's probably time to replace the clips.

    I bet you it's the metal strip underneath thats rusting away rather than the clips.

    I'm sure when I did mine I got them all from VAGPARTS for about £50+vat for the set.Would recommend using waxoyl to stop metal part rusting again.

    The advice you have been given is spot on about replacing the rubber trims undoing the screw on the inside of the door and pulling slightly to the right looking at the door from outside..I might add I have just bought my A4 back to original condition and thought it would look better to have the Rubbers painted the same colour has the car..the alternative being putting S4 ones on which are Plastic not rubber so can be painted over ok but the price is unbeleivable to do it properly..the rubber ones can be painted if the paintshop use flexi additive in the paint to keep it all flexable..to date they have been ok and look 100 times better than black...just an idea for you to think about...

    I might be wrong about this, but when I replaced all of my door trims about 2 years ago the new VAG replacements appeared to use a very hard plastic rather than the original-style painted metal strip?
    Why the hell Audi chose to use a metal strip in the first place mystifies me though...........

    I'm contemplating this myself. The trims don't seem to achieve anything and my metal rail mounting thingumyjig is rusted to buggery.

    I find it amazing tbh as the rest of the car is mint. Must be the special EZ rust metal used in the trims..... or they bought them in from Fiat circa 1979...

    Ditch 'em or keep 'em? Whadyareckon?

    You will need to do some body work to the lower door if you do. The plastic clips are attached to the car by metal pins, which will need cutting of, sanding back and spraying.

    Yeah, I've seen a few cars driving around w/o the trims in place, (probably rusted off...), and my paintwork skills aren't exactly good. Bloody awful if we're honest....

    At least they're quite close to the door bottom rather than right in the middle... getting an Azure Blue paint match shouldn't be that hard.....:think:

    Had a look at VAG parts but it only lists left and right, anyone know which side is OS and which side is NS?

    With VW/Audi part numbers ,if parts are handed; the odd number part number is always the left-hand whilst the even numbered part is the right hand.Orientations are based upon sitting in the car and facing the front.....

    If I make-up a fictional part no;
    ie 8D0 123 455B-----would be lhs
    8D0 123 456B------would be rhs

    Such simple fix to make the car look a whole load better than it did with knackered tired old strips that are hanging off
