This weekend saw me trecking back to sunny Bournemouth to spend some time with my family and while I was down, I dropped into the local VAG specialists, APD near Poole. While I was there, we got chatting about my lack of love for my 57 plate S3, and the owner of APD offered to take me out in my car and show me what all the fuss was about with the S3 as it was them that had suggested i swap the S4 cab for the S3.

We went out with the car in totally standard mode and it was fine. He is a very good driver and it was an interesting experience. When we got back, he suggested that we put the Revo trial software on the car, so we flashed the ECU and then went out for a setup run with the laptop plugged in so they could get all of the settings right. I have no idea what we settled on in the end but it took about 15/20 mins to get right with my driving style.

He then took me out again and he drove half the time and i drove half.

What an incredible difference it makes to the performance of the car. I found that there was slightly less lag, the car pulled smoother through the revs and kept going into the red. We tried two different combinations until we settled on one that suited my driving style (or lack of.....)
The trial lasted 5 hours in which time i used half a tank of fuel in 65 miles...... Needless to say I am absolutel smitten with the car now. I have about 20 minutes left of the trial and I know I am going to be raiding the piggy bank and counting the pennies to try and find the money to get the full verison of the software.

For me, it has made the car infinitely better. The drive is smoother and the power delivery is superb and really has been tailored to match my driving style which I love!

I now "understand" what all the fuss is about with the S3 and cannot wait to get the Milltek TBE fitted next month and then the ITG and stage 1 or 2+ if i can afford the fuel pump.

I know that people on here have very varied experiences with the Revo trial, and maybe it was because APD took the time to set it up and adjust it to where i wanted it that made it feel so much better than standard. After the level of customer service I got from the guys at APD, I am now booked to get them to fit the exhaust and will definately be using them for the full version of the software as well.

:applaus:

Nice to hear you found it made the difference. When I got my S3 back in '07 I thought it was pretty lackluster. Lasted 2 whole days of ownership from new before I got some remedial code onto the car!

Awesome are running a 2010 Milltek deal at the moment, BUT don't be rail roaded into thinking a Milltek is the only route, consider other suppliers too.

Thats great to hear and gives people like me faith to think about the Revo when the time comes. I certainly didnt get that level of service when I had the trial done on mine....just an ECU flash and on my way (best not mention the Revo dealer!!). I will be heading down to Pool over the coming weekends, so will try to get time to pop in and see APD. I am from Stafford, so it could be great drive home!

As you are from stafford I'd recommend you give Ben a call at AVP in Burton as he is a very experienced Revo dealer, he's the same Ben Williamson that writes in Audi driver every month on the technical page. He loaded stage 2+ on my car on Saturday then amended the settings to suit me and my car, excellent service and an absolute oracle - 01283 548 483

Matt - if your heading down to Poole, APD are 10 mins from there - drop me a pm and I will have a word to ensure you get looked after. If you want to call direct its 01202 621761.

Warren - the reason for going down the MT route is that I picked up a TBE with 6k miles and 9 mths old from ebay last week for what I would consider to be a very good price.

Any idea if they can remap DSG boxes?

My car behaves quite differently in D mode than it does in paddle mode so I have a feeling it has already been mapped in the past by a previous owner.

Gear changes down are a lot smoother in paddle mode than D mode so I guess it has to be a software thing which hopefully they could sort out with a remap...

Nice one. I just hope given the usual standard policy of lifetime warranty to the first owner, that it lasts out for you given some of the stories I've been hearing in the last year. If you've got it for a steal it matters far less, so job is a good'un. Should work a treat, but have a look at the pictures in my thread on the MV Sport exhaust, the restriction in the OEM exhaust is in the DP & cat, and far less so in the back box and mid section. Back box will help it sound nicer though.

I have a very good contact within MT so any problems, I know where to shout! I had MT on the S4 cab and it was truly exceptional sound. I miss that sooooo much!

£480 for a full TBE system i would consider to be a steal!!

I have been followung your thread with interest and the MV looked awesome - very nice piece piece of engineering.

Apologies, misread that as cat back (doh!), with the TBE you will be fine, and at £480 that is a bargain. The only thing you need to know is that even if God made a TBE and put it on an S3 it still wouldn't come close to the symphony from an S4 cab with decent pipework. There is an S4 cab with a Milly round the corner from us, and it just sounds pornographic. Makes the S3 sound like a diesel :sorry:

The S4 had non res pipes as well and was cat back as well as having B7 quad exits pipes on a B6......

Visually and aurally stunning.

But not as fast as my kart on Revo steroids!!

Thanks James, I will let you know. I need to go to Primera the bike mecca for a new mountain bike!!!

I had a non res Milltek on my Mk5 R32.........for a week....hated it....then had the res section put in and it was fantastic.....I cant fault Milltek.

Matt - i got my Specialized RockHopper Pro Disc from there at the end of last year. They have a great shop on Poole Road as well as the one in Bournemouth - well worth a visit.

James, yeah they have amazing stock. Its actually a RockHopper that I am going there for! The 2010 Pro. Great bikes

I have a Rockhopper Expert 2010 for sale second hand if you are interested-19" frame.........???

Always makes me laugh when a thread brings up a name of a company close to home, but this ones brought up 2!

APD have done all the work on my car and I too can't fault them. As you mention James, really enthusiastic and know their stuff. Just after I got stage 1 loaded on my car a couple of years ago, I did a track day at Castle Coombe. Paul (APD owner) was there on the Revo stand so I let him have a session in my car to see what it felt in the passenger seat. I can second you on his driving skills!!! I'm glad the trial has brought a smile to you face. The thing I like about Revo is that you build up the stages when you like. Trust me, you won't be staying at stage 1 for long. I've been playing around with mine for various reasons lately, mainly boredom but also as I've got pretty used to stage 2+ now and decided put it back to standard. I have to say it's still not bad but it lacks hell of a punch when things get going higher in the rev band. After having the map on for so long, it almost feels as if it's stopped at times. I'll be putting everything back in place soon.

Primera have also managed to empty my wallet of a few quid lately. Treated myself to a Cannondale Rush 3 just after Christmas. Again, great shop and staff with a huge section of bikes to view.

Chris

thats who done my trial , the following weekend i had it taken off and custom code put on !! avp did nt impress me in the slightest

Chris - Nice to find another satisfied APD customer - they have looked after my S4 for the past two years and now have the S3 on the books as well. Paul mentioned that he was going to try and get you over this weekend when i was down as I wanted to see what stage 2+ felt like! I guess he couldnt get hold of you.

When you say your putting everything back in place - what do you mean? You selling up??
