Let me start by saying no one was hurt, it was a carpark prang at low speed.

My other half was reversing out of a parking bay(Parent and child space of all parking spaces) at Tesco's in heavy rain, and some person in a Merc ML270 reversed into the side of the car. They have admitted fault, and she swopped details, with the owner of the other vehicle offering to pay for the repair out of insurance, if the quote is reasonable.
My problem is where they hit, right smack bang in the middle of the car between the front and rear doors, so not one for dent masters basically, both doors still open and close as they should and there doesn't seem to be any structural damage. Now this Passat of mine is on an X plate with 152k miles, so worth around £2-2.5k(probably less from an insurer), so any insurance claim is most likely to end with my car written off. So my favoured choice is for the 3rd party to to pay cash for the repairs so I can keep the motor, hoping it's not too expensive a repair.

I shall get me some repair quotes tomorrow and see how it goes...

:( sorry to hear that Jojo.

There's nothing that can be said to ease the pain of such scenarios other than the obvious, mother and child / anyone else was not harmed thankfully. Do as you say and get a variety of quotes. Was it witnessed by anyone else? Always worthwhile to have someone on your side in case the others decide they don't wanna pay and deny fault to the insurers.

My advice on this situation is act as fast as possible to get it sorted.

    Best of luck

    Rob

    p.s. at least it wasn't the S3!

As you say, Mother and child OK (I assume she was with child, so to speak, using that space!!) so no need for drastic action.........

I would reccomend sending the Triads 'round and removing a finger a day until they pay for a new car......

On a serious note, you have to think why you should be incovienienced getting quotes repairs etc, for their mistake. Plus these cash jobbies often end up going pear shaped. I'd just pass it straight to your insurers and them them deal with it!

Sorry to hear about that JoJo. At least nobody was hurt. I was once told that your not insured in a supermaket car park because its private land or something and that your not on public road? I cant remember the reasoning behind it but I just remember being told this. I'm guessing its not true!

Hope you get it all sorted ok.

It sounds like it'll be quite expensive JoJo -

at a guess they can either knock out, fill and respray the two doors which i'd estimate at £6-700 from a cheapish bodyshop

or knock out the damage behind then two new door skins, i's say this option will prob cost you about £8-1000

Like i say that's jus a guess, i used to work in a garage that had their own bodyshop

Sorry to hear this Jo Jo. The important thing is nobody was hurt.

Could another option for repair be to get two 2nd hand doors and swap trim etc and put them on the car. Thats assuming only the doors are damaged of course.

Hope you get it sorted easily enough any way.

Hey Jo sorry to hear about that, glad all are ok though!!

Just get the quotes and make sure all is cool, also dont know if its worth it or not, but just see if Tesco have it on CCTV, just in case the other party get funny and it does go down insurance route, its fairly obvious that its their fault by the sound of the damage, but you never know, believe me im talking from experience!!!

    Cheers and good luck

Just got a few quotes back, reputable repairers recommend I go for the insurance route(probably more money for them?), and they will replace both doors, cash quotes are between 1200-1800 quid(only one repairer would give me a printed quote!) - Gulp! - more if through insurance, and there is the possibility of my car being written off this way also...
Manage to find a reputable panel beater who restores classic cars for a living(couple of shiney Triumph Stags parked outside), he said he could do it for £300 cash(no invoice), repairing the door panels, and I wouldn't know it's been hit!
Latter option is my preferred option if the guy pays up, or I will persue him through my own insurance company to make a claim against him.

    Wish me luck.

£300 is very very good, and it sounds like he takes pride in his work if he restores classics, you could be on to a winner with that one.

FYI a filled and sprayed door, if done to a high standard will be very hard to spot visually, unless you're doing a magnet test on it you'd never know.

The guy seems happy to fork out £300 with no effect on his no claims and future insurance premium, just got to get the money off him now and book the car in for the work. :)

    **UPDATE**

Turns out the prat who hit me is an AR5EHOLE! After all the arranging and quotes for a bargain price of £300 on his insistance of doing it for cash, with no financial gain to myself, he couldn't be arsed to get the money to me after 5 days of phoning, waiting and meeting up, but did he turn up?, no he frikin didn't!
He did seem a bit more enthusiastic after I threatened him on Saturday with going through insurance channels, but only for a moment.
Enough is enough, I called my insurace company up this morning and aim to make a claim against him through his insurance, I'm no longer interested in dialogue with him and neither am I going to pay a penny towards the claim... those are my terms now, since I am the victim...
There's no point in being a decent and genuine person these days, people will just take you for granted, so no more MR. NICEGUY, he can lose his no claims and pay extra for the next few years over a small sum of £300 and 5 minutes of his precious time.

Rant over, and have a nice day peeps.

Hmmm.... guess who called me this morning? twice aswell, how enlighting, didn't bother to answer though lol.
Wish I could post the message he left on the voicemail though, apologising and offering to give me a cheque for said £300 this evening 100% lol.
It was Monday morning at 10am he couldn't be arsed to turn up at our meeting point, and it took him 48 hours to return a call finally, how busy can you be?!

I have not actually called my own insurer up Nilz, I'm using a company called AutoClaims who do everything for you, they are a sister company to a very good bodyshop I use.

I have used them before, and they do all the calling and stuff for you, in return, they make money buy sending cars to their own bodyshop for repairs and insist on a courtesy car whilst your car is being repaired at the expense of the 3rd party insurer.... so long as they are insured in the first place of course.

I just called them up and filled them in on the details, then it's a matter of waiting.... saves a lot of stress and hassle for victims basically, and they are quite 'keen' if you have to make a claim for copensation for whiplash etc., as they do that aswell.

    **UPDATE**

Further update on the situation, and it's not looking good. The claims company has had dialogue twice with the twat since I made the last post, he's just so hard to get hold of! There checks have brought up that the car that hit me isn't insured, so I need to contact the police about it.
After an hour and half in the police station, they have confirmed the car is not insured and they have a different name and address to the one given, but they're not allowed to release this information to me(Though the woman did say it was a local address). So I'm leaving it with the police now, to see what they can do for me, meanwhile I'm driving my Passat that's looking a bit sorry for itself. :(

That's twice now my other half has been hit, and the other party wasn't insured, how unlucky is that?!
