Hi I own a 2000 S3 210bhp, the front electric recaro on the drivers side has developed a fault, as in the up/down adjustment of the seat only work on the down operation.
Is the switch at fault or could it be something else?. How easy is it to fix , i tried getting the toggle switches off but to no avail, Help please !!!!!

Likely cause is a stuck microswitch in the innards of the seat. They are there to cut the motor off when the seat gets to max or min height. They can fail or get stuck so the system thinks it is at max height when it isn't.

It's not an easy fix at all as you have to dismantle a lot of the seat to get to the switch, although there are some guides on here.

I have to admit I tried as best I could without taking all of the sub-frames and seat base off but it didn't work for me and it still won't go up.

It's really annoying as the seats are very heavy (around 35kg) and not the easiest thing to man handle in and out of the car and I was petrified of scratching something. You don't know if what you've done has worked until you plug it all back in again. I still haven't been to the dealers to work out if the microswitches are available as spares or not.

your mad paying that mate.. i fixed mine just by putting my hand under the seat & pessing the button on the micro switch they aint that hard to find... the one that stops the seat going up is on the side closest to the door just behind the switches & the down one is on the inside by the seat belt clip both stapped to bars,
have a feel around & you will find them they only need a little tap & they are fixed

dont suppose you have any pics as i cant find the switch to press!!!

Need to do this on mine, was a paasenger in my the other month and realised the up/down doesnt work.

Sorry - I should have taken some piccies when I did mine. Have you looked at the A3 interior manual? I know the diagrams can be a bit obtuse but they do help - honest.
