Well the process is quite simple really - you see a (very) cheap set of R8 Brembo 4-pots and 362mm APR 2-piece rotors on pistonheads, the kind people at asn essentially peer-pressure you into buying them, and then you find out the caliper carriers are for a Passat hub and won't fit an S3.

You then trawl the internet for about 3 months before N8 comes along and says he knows a guy, a VAG/Brembo guru, a man named Dave. N8 puts you in touch with Dave, and Dave then agrees to build you a set of one-off custom carriers for the brakes. You manage to miss each other constantly for about 3 weeks, but eventually you're both at home at the same time so you can finally pay Dave for the carriers and they get sent out that day. The following week you have to go to London so can't pick your car up from the bodyshop until the following weekend. You call your local mod guy/garage and he says he can squeeze you in on Tuesday. You go pick up the car and find that not only do the brakes stop you on a pin-head, but they also have a BETTER feel than the standard set up. You be very happy you joined asn and then upload a bunch of pictures so people can share in your joy. Then you pour yourslef a beer and go sit in the garden because even though it's only about 10degrees, the sun is out, and that's enough in Aberdeen.

Or, in other words, R8 calipers + AP Racing discs + DaveB carriers = :hubbahubba::rockwoot::arco::yahoo::blackrs4:

    The way they were:

    The parts needed:

    The result:

And, the finished product. Now with (temporary) 4mm spacers (=ET44 8.5J) and no rubbing.

Massive thanks to N8 and of course Dave (Brown). We got there in the end!

Full of AWESOMENESS, Martin! Those look absolutely perfect. Been waiting all day for this thread, Bud, thanks for sharing. Did you need the spacer to give you clearance from the rim spokes? Fab job!! xx

EDIT- Forgot to say, enjoy your pint!

No, that's the beauty of the R8 calipers - they work with the standard master cylinder.

Thanks Paula, but I'm sure your shiny red ones will blow mine out of the water. There's a 4mm spacer on because the spokes don't clear when straight on, but it's a crappy plastic one so will be on the look out for a more permanent 4/5mm hubcentric replacement (if they even exist).

Forgot to say, also big thanks to other Dave at Motorwerks for doing the fitting. Great job and best rates in town!

I got the carriers, bolts and risers + VAT and postage along with my caliper sent back to me (he needed it for fitting), so you're probably better speaking to DaveB and he'll sort you out with a quote. He can also do complete packages (discs, calipers, pads etc), I think.

Martin, yours is the very first S3 in the UK (possibly worldwide) to have the R8 rear Brembo set up a'la DaveB. N8 obviously had them on his A3, but the rest of the kits are on Leon Cupra's, Golf's and 'Rocco's around the globe. Can't stop looking at your pics! Can't tell you how special your Speedlines look on there too, ..SUPERB! xx

No worries people, I'm here to help, got decent knowledge on the brakes so can help out when Dave B's busy. Rang him today and he was in the Majorca

Dont' need M/C upgrade for R8, only for R8/RS4/Gallardo 8 pots.

Hang on, Are you not gonna remove the R8 writing? It's the same as me puting S3 badge on my TDI.

No, that would be if I wrote R8 on the original S3 calipers. These are actual R8 calipers, so they say R8 on them.

I know what you are saying. But on the grille it's different as its labelling the car, as on the tailgate, but the caliper just states its from an R8. Same as my calipers state they are from a Lamborghini, we can all clearly see it's not a Gallardo

Set me back somewhere on the wrong side of £1200, all in and fitted. Think the kit together is more like £1500 new.

eastsidevw are having a meet at the end of the month that I'll hopefully be home for, we could arrange something alongside that maybe?

    Massive brakes look mint!

I had brembo 4 pots with 2 piece (Badger5) disks on my old Golf V6 4motion with BBS RC alloys. Looked amazing. Stopped amazingly well too.
