Newbie here considering an 8P RS3 just wondering if anyone can provide some knowledge and advice.

The 8P RS3 has been a long time dream of mine and having just secured a new job that I believe pays well enough to warrant buying one I'm on the hunt for the right car. Before I commit id really like some advice.

First thing id really like to know, would anyone consider it crazy doing a 30 mile round commute with stop-start traffic everyday in an RS3? what sort of mpg can I expect on a dual carriageway sticking to the limit? As a perk of my new job I am entitled to 50l's of fuel every week, however, this is recycled fuel but is filtered would anyone consider it crazy putting this fuel in an rs3?

Another thing id like to know is what are the service schedules like especially things like front brakes which seem to be crazy expensive!

Lastly, what should I look out for? can anyone point me in the right direction of a reputable dealership that has an 8P in stock and is Audi's approved used and warranty really worth the extra couple of thousand

Thanks in advance to anyone that answers my shopping list of questions!

Mines 25/26mpg overall from new. OK, I see 35+ on a run, and I can also do single digit if in play-mood; but overall it's 25/26.

Wouldn't change my 8P RS3 for anything so for me a GOOD choice of motor car.

No worries doing a commute in all and any weather.

Front brake issues are satisfactorily resolved with EBC Redstuff brake pads - just that Audi won't listen.

Make sure it has a full Audi service history, has had ALL upgrades, and purchase with a 12-month Audi warranty.

Hope this helps.

Filtered fuel? WTF is that?! I'd only put Super in it personally.

TX.

I work in salavge we syphon petrol then it's filtered and sold on but I get free petrol basically would be a bonus running one on this

So you'd probably be putting various RON fuel that may have been sitting about for weeks or months into a performance car? It'll run, but I doubt it would run well.

Ours has the 'comfort seats' not the buckets: our 'wants' were STD seats and STD glass and we were lucky enough to find one of the first available with neither but with lots of other nice bits to include an early RS2 colour. Purchased within 36-hours of being told we couldn't order a new one (ALL SOLD) and then finding and still ours 5.1/2 years later. The only other one available in 2011 did have buckets and privacy glass; didn't go there.

Driven lots of 8P RS3's with buckets and love 'em once in; it's just the getting in and out that for us is a 'pain'. But you're young so go for it...

Do it, just forget the free filtered full idea. I wouldn't risk it.

Go for the RS3 but sell your "filtered fuel" every week and give the RS3 the super it deserves

I sit in a bit traffic and if I'm honest my RS3 hates it, I'm lucky to get into double figures whilst crawling around at low speed but once on the open road I get around 18 again. My commute is 14 miles round trip so not far and because of such I don't mind the lower MPG.

I wouldn't dare put anything other than shell v-power in mine, recycled fuel in a performance car unless it was around 100k miles on the clock and the car came cheap.

Great car, but if your worried about MPG at all it's not the car for you.

I have recently bought an Audi RS3 and it took me a while to find the right one.

I do a 40 mile return trip from work, mostly motorway but can still average around 35mpg on the way to work and around 30mpg on the way back (few stops on the way).

One stealership to stay away from the Stratstone, they have nice cars for sale but there customer server is appalling. Try get one from Audi its worth the bit extra as you get the 12 month warranty!

Ok so no work special fuel haha, I can deal with 25+ MPG, to be honest, the one thing that does put me off an RS3 is the front discs! Realistically how much am I looking at to change front discs and pads at Audi or are there any specialists out there? Also, roughly how many miles do a set of pads and discs last? I know it will all depend on how ill be driving it but is there a rough mileage.

Cheers all for the help!

Red Stuff front pads from the US with the brake pad sensor grove approx. £125 shipped. (Summit Racing)
C spec discs, circa £400 a pair. (ebay) DONT BUY TTRS DISCS they are different offset.

I'm running OEM discs and UK spec Red-Stuff pads and it's superb. They have been on for 2k miles now and look more or less new other.

Thing is, the discs are one of the least worries... everything has an extra zero on the price tag for parts and therefore literally everything costs a lot to do. Service and running costs are high, but it is a performance car at the end of the day all be it a slightly older one now. But you know what... I wouldn't trade it for the world!

GOOD choice on the RS3. My own view is that the brake issue reporting is way bigger than the actual problem and/or resolution thereof - talking 8PRS3 here.

Some perspective: when this brake problem was an 8P RS3 and TTRS big issue back in 2013 I had a list of 44 ASN RS3 owner/drivers and of those listed: 10 had no brake squeal at all, 7 had intermittent low speed brake squeal, and the others regular low speed brake squeal. Some then fitted Mintex (self-adhesive) or Brembo/Mitsubishi stainless steel anti-squeal shims and resolved the problem. A couple changed to something else - an RS3 doesn't suit everyone.

Many now have original and/or replacement OEM discs and Redstuff brake pads and that suits most.

For your information here's what Audi GmbH said at the time and they list the issues some owners had reported:

47i6 announcement

Not all cars had the upgrade, only those where owner/drivers reported the issue; a lot of cars had no reported issues.

Hope this helps

Oh, and I agree with Arkious 100% when he says "But you know what... I wouldn't trade it for the world!" :yahoo:

The Golf R is a great car for sure, but the RS3 is an event!

Please, whatever you get, don't put filtered fuel in it ;)

It currently goes in the misses car so i guess she can keep having free fuel haha! I'm on the look out for the right car at the minute i was close to going for the R but I've always wanted an RS3 and there pretty much the same price so its a matter of which one i prefer now

BOTH are GREAT cars; enjoy, whichever you choose... :racer:

That said I remain an RS3 fan and agree with Ozmosis that the RS3 is just that little bit more and what that 'little bit' is is difficult to define; but I've a TT and an A1, both DSG, and while I find both rewarding I find the RS3 just that little bit more, or as Ozmosis says, "an event."

Have fun...
