Good luck with that, First thing they will do is check to see if its had a dodgy map, if so goodbye warranty and hello big bill. All of this is the exact reason i would take my car to a tuner to have a remap done and get hold of a shark handheld or REVO STS thing if i wanted to have control of maps.

I think he is referring to getting a Superchips bluefin remap allowing him to take the map off before servicing etc..? The Superchips unit wipes the area of memory that stores the data relating to when the last time it was uploaded to, so Audi won't know for sure what has been done to the ECU. If you've ever had a Bluefin you would know that it loads the map then there is another 2 or 3 actions to complete to wipe this part of the memory. I'm not sure if Revo STS or the Shark dongle does this, but Superchips were the first to market with this technology.

All loaded on, a fantastic improvement for a small outlay. Oh and no problems!

I installed a Bluefin on my 1.8 TFSi today and it is a completely different car now, it sounds louder but the performance is incredible! I never expected it to have this much of an impact, I thought the car was fairly quick anyway but now it's a powerhouse. The installation was simple, no problems encountered and no error lights after the ignition is switched off then on again.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, I wanted a bluefin so I can take the map off if it ever went into Audi for servicing in case they updated the ECU.

Where's the best to buy the bluefin? Direct from super chips or are there less costly places to go to?

    Cheers.

You can often get them on eBay for £360 with a free panel filter or look out for superchips sales. A couple have been sold on here before too but I missed out on them.

I've seen warnings on ebay saying buying second hand ones is risky so I should just look out for the new ones?

Or you can pick up a second hand one for £20-30 pay £225 to have it reset, and it will cost ~£250ish as opposed to a new one at £370

It's worth noting that some handsets need to be sent to super chips to be reset so you will have postage on top but if you get the right model for your car then I think the reset can be done remotely.

Glad you're happy with it AK, I'm still raving about mine too.

For info: just got back from having mine MOT'd with the map in place, it passed with flying colours ...including Emissions. :)

When you get foot happy the MPG counter goes down to 7 (doubt that is too accurate) but when driving sensibly it seems to be similar if not better than it was. TBH I haven't tested the economy side of things yet ;) but one of my concerns was that I wouldn't be able to get a decent economy when driving normally so will be looking out for that. Still amazed today at the sheer power there is, I don't think the car has enough traction to put all the power down when in third foot to the floor :D

I'm on a 2.0 TFSI and had embarrassing wheel spin until I changed tyres to Eagle F1s ... but then I was on the original tyres that were fairly worn ...

I will wait until mine need replacing and go for something decent, I think they are budgets atm. I'm not sure if I had wheel spin, will turn off traction control and see what happens.

I guess it was more wheel 'hop' as traction was lost then regained and lost again ... but disappeared once the tyres had been changed ...

I've noticed a very slight improvement in light throttle fuel economy & the emissions test seems to bear that out with a slight reduction from last year's printout, but ...and it's a big But, mine is a DSG, so I don't have to worry about being in the right gear all the time like you do with a manual.

Have you had the gearbox updated? When I was looking at DSG models I saw that AmD offer a custom map on the gearbox so you can stay in a gear rather than have it change up automatically.

Haven't bothered with a DSG map! Seems to hold a gear long enough in S or Manual\Paddle shift for spirited driving, and the key to Eco driving is to change up before boost cranks up (low revs).
