Audi A3 2.0tfsi (57) Engine Idle Judder

Hi guys.!! Just an update on the judder. Replaced the coil packs this evening and no joy. Judder still exactly the same as before. Not really sure where to go from here TBH. Anyone want to share any suggestions??
Thanks.

my car came out of the garage last week with a similar issue engine would jump about ok when driven. Mechanic used this automotive smoke machine which they send through the intake and show any leaks that it might escape going round and also where it can be sucked in causing the engine to move. it showed on mine failed gasket on the maf, split boost pipe and shockingly form the garage that fitted my thermostat that the i/c pipe wasn't fitted correctly. cost £20 for the test well worth it for me.

Thanks for the post mate. I do have an evap error and would be interested in getting it tested. Did u take it to Audi for this, or do any garages have this equipment??
I may get mine checked if it's that cheap. Could be the cause of the juddering.
Cheers

Just an update folks. I had an Audi Specialist look at my car. He couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. He did however do a reset on the V157 Intake flap motor. Its been a month since that was done and things are better, but still a slight judder (nt as bad tho). This may help me head in the right direction now.........I'm wondering if the Intake Manifold and flaps may be dirty.?

After I cleaned mine I still got the judder. Not sure it's worth it unless you wanted to do a whole carbon clean and clean the injectors.

Damn.....thanks for letting me know mate. So you still have an idle judder too? Any progress with yours.?

No, unfortunately not. Haven't had a chance to look at the evap stuff at the moment. Had bigger problems at the moment with the clutch that I'm trying to sort out. I have a feeling it's related to that or a vacuum leak. Hopefully I can get onto it in the next few months.

Oh God!! I hope you get things sorted and it doesn't cost you too much mate.
Let me know how you get on when you decide to investigate.
Many thanks!!!

If all goes well it will cost me $7.60 for some new thrust washers, whilst I do an oil change. Provided there's no internal damage.

Fingers crossed! Haha.

Thanks for keeping the thread updated!

Good luck pal.! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.!
Any more developments from me and I'll be sure to post about it.

Just an update. New oil and filter. Also new fuel filter, still judders and extended cranking on start up. Next step, I don't know, lol

Just to bump this thread up a little, did you ever get to the bottom of this?

Hi, no luck really mate. Still the occasions poor start and the judder is still present, but not as bad as it was, the flapper motor reset seems to have improved it. I have learnt to live with these for now. Almost got to the point where I'm waiting for an engine light to tell me what is wrong, lol.

Oh well, if it runs well other than that, then I suppose its not the end of the world.

I've got a similar problem with my A4 after having the timing chain and belt replaced. I keep thinking they might have put it a tooth out, but surely it wouldn't run right if that was the case. I've got the inlet flaps deleted and a poly snub engine mount, so its probably just normal with those mods, I just didnt really notice it before the chain replacement. Will just have to live with it lol

Yeah, mine runs fine otherwise. Don't be so sure that the belt isn't fitted poorly. I ran mine for a good few months, and only by looking into my judder problem I found that mine was done really really badly (the tensioner wasn't fitted in the correct position). I was lucky it didn't cause me a wrecked engine. There is no harm in getting them to double check the timing marks (you should be there to look too). Good luck bud.

Hi, can i join in as i have the same frustrating problem. Ok i dont have an Audi but my Seat Leon FR has the same 2.0tfsi engine. My car is semi -auto. When i start up there is terrible juddering although revs are constant. As soon as i drive away the car is fine,Responsive and quick. Only when in Neutral do i get this juddering through the car. I have changed coils, plugs, coil harness, fuel filter, oil and filter. Thought i would now change the Evap Valve. Compression ok and Vacuum no leaks......any other ideas. I have a code reader coming next week so will see what comes up.

I have the BWA, also have recurring P0441 and the judder. I replaced the fuel filter and the idle improved, but that lasted only a couple of weeks.

I have a 2.0 FSI BLX engine, I got these symptoms (Engine judder while idle, the lights would slightly flicker as well as if the car is going to cut out, engine struggling to start sometimes) after I had my EGR valve replaced back in November.

Then the P0441 error showed up so I changed the ACF Solenoid valve/N80 - Purge Valve and the EVAP canister, this cleared the P0441 error and after awhile the judder has become barely noticeable (The needle still bounces around slightly at times) so I've learned to live with it for now, The engine still struggles to start sometimes though :-/ I think I'm going to try the fuel filter next.

Hi KJBA.

Sorry for the slow repsonse.
To be totally honest with you, I tried so many things and never got to the bottom of it, I kinda gave up and just put up with it now.
It's not got really bad or any worse. It is a random thing really. Somedays it judders when sat at lights (in any gear), and the only way it seems to improve is if I stick the heating on, which raise the revs ever so slightly.
This is a problem many people have, some say it's the DMF, some say its Carbon build up, some have been lucky by replacing the Purge Valve. It's really hit and miss, but I don't have the money to try the DMF, so I'm just putting up with it.
I have an extensive list of this that I have replaced to help with the judder and the sluggish starting (which can be ok one day, then not the next). Feel free to look at some of my forum posts to see what I have done.
Wishing you all the best with your search for happiness.
Let me know if you manage to fix these, coz I failed in the end.

Good luck!!!

Hi Sharkie,

I know it's been long I've been very lazy in regards to logging in, but I know what you mean I've learned to live with it for now. I was more worried about the sluggish starts, well, a few weeks ago mine went from random sluggish starts to not starting at all (which is what I was worried about), turned out to be the battery. New battery fitted, but the poor starts are still present. I asked a friends dad to look over the car for me as he was fitting new brakes + the battery and when I got the car back all he said was "I think it's time you start looking for a new car", I've only had it just over a year and I was thinking of keeping it for a while, but now I'm not sure what to do.

However I'll definitely look into your forum posts and let you know if I cure these problems!

Hi All,

My engine judder has been cured! Turns out the EGR valve I bought was very dodgy, I've learned my lesson from buying none OEM parts.
Took my car to a VAG specialist (VolksAutos), they tried configuring the EGR, but it wouldn’t let them and it was also playing up when they tried. They said its either the wiring, or the EGR itself, so I told them to change the EGR. Now my car is back to idling normally, I also haven't had any bad start ups so far.

Hi guys,, not sure if this is still going bit I have the same problem on a 2012 B8 A4 tfsi. I have just had a polymer bead clean of the inlet valves etc, full diagnostics and a short service with plugs.
The judder is still there after all of that. Apparently the car was over fuelling by 10% trying to even out the misfire (that's what I call it anyway). After nearly £1000 spent today, the judder seems less, but is stull there. Very disappointed, but I had to try. Getting fed up now and thinking of trading in for something else.
The DMF is now my thought. But I am not paying out another grand on this motor!
Any luck guys???
